Random NIN Questions (February 2010)

This is probably a bad question...But is this "Fragile Ultimate Reissue" really happening? there was just the brief mention on the NIN twitter account, obviously,But I am rather skeptical seeing as how Interscope surely owns the rights...and due to the *ahem* 'disagreements' over past projects, I would imagine neither party is too interested in working with one another.

To put it bluntly, I imagine that both parties will put that aside to make something that a) Trent's mentioned he'd like to do, b) the fans are looking forward to, and c) will probably make a good amount of money as a result. It's been mentioned in a couple of other places, too-- I think there's video out there of Trent confirming it during one of the meet-and-greets last year, and more recently Rob's made reference on his own Twitter to working on it with AiR. It just doesn't seem to be in the very near future, that's all.

I think its AWESOME that NIN is offering some of their albums in high resolution. I have listened to "with teeth" as both a normal CD and the new high res DVD in my mastering studio and there is a HUGE difference. Here is my question:

Will "Pretty Hate Machine" be available as a high res DVD like "with teeth"? Or available as high resolution wavs? PHM is my favorite NIN album and it would be epic to hear it in 96k/24b.

Two questions I have about La Mer.

1) In the version of La Mer I have there is also the creole french at the end of the track. We know what the beginning says but does anyone know what the end voice says?

2) When I saw it live on the wave goodbye tour. Trent did what others called "the introduction" to La Mer but I'd never heard it before. Where does the introduction come from?

^ La Mer was usually introduced by a piano improvisation, sometimes called Adrift and at Peace, even though it isn't.

If the question is if he's a vegetarian, then no. If the question is if he's a plant rather than an animal, NO!

On the website rateyourmusic.com, I'm trying to prove that the CD of The Downward Spiral was released on March 8, 1994, but the mods won't believe me. Is there any source that confirms this besides Amazon (they won't believe Amazon)?

To see the discussion, it's here: [rateyourmusic.com]

Just wondering how many people have listened to Lucky Pierre who later changed their name to be Prick?

Because listening to Trent sing back-up vocals and wail on the Saxophone is a great great time machine to fall into. Specifically in the song I need to Get to Know:

Seriously, I wish Nin would tour with Prick again. Trent, David Bowie, and Kevin McMahon = one of the best concerts I ever saw. Anyway, I have had the Lucky Pierre record for years and years and years and figured I would make this post just in case some of you weren't aware of this great collaboration from way back in the day.

you can pretty much find every NIN release on vinyl although not all of them were released in the US. The UK market had far more.

check out www.nincollection.com for more

Read in an interview somewheres that NIN (or TR solo) is planning to collaborate with Gary Numan (more than just guest appearances at concerts). Any news on that or details on what is being worked on? Searched for this, but didn't find anything specifically on new collaborative work. I'm really psyched about this and can't wait to hear what comes out of it...More old synths for the old school electronica fans please smiling smiley

the demoscene [en.wikipedia.org]

the best of it
http//www.pouet.net/prodlist.php?platform[]=Windows&type[]=demo&order=thumbup
the purest form of realtime coded animation music digital expression. period.

i wonder if Trent even knows about it, knows about its evolution, knows about the artists who compete with each other simply for the artistic rep and exploration of cutting edge code, knows about its purity from capitalistic greed, knows about the stunning visuals and timed music from the most creative forces in the world, knows about the finality of Breakpoint 2010 [breakpoint.untergrund.net]

and i wonder if he did know all these things would it be something that he could at least once be a part of, put together something with SUCH powerful digital realtime visuals and music, and maybe demonstrate that UNLIKE the last 2 decades, where ZERO americans have produced demos that even deserve to bear the title "demo", there is ONE with such creative power from this soil who can stun the earthbound masses with such godly artistic fury.

i know you're eternally busy trent. i know you do your own thing, always.

but i can still hope that u might take a look at this, and be a part of it, or at the very least acknowledge its existence with a nod of your head.

for i have watched this demoscene rise from its infancy unto the redonkulously powerful artform it is today, and am ashamed to call myself an american knowing none of us ever became a driving force in this scene. call me arrogant, but i deem it more a patriotic yearning.

I wonder if Trent would ever be interested in collaborating with Klayton Scott

the result of such a meeting would probably melt your brain and bleed your soul out your eyeballs

if you dont know Klayton, can check out his latest at [www.myspace.com]

his current band Celldweller's first album, self titled from 2004, I stash high on a pedestal normally reserved for Broken and the Downward Spiral. Amazing stuff i tells ye.

Is this true regarding "Something I Can Never Have"?

"I do believe Trent wrote this song during the recording and writing of Pretty Hate Machine. This wasn't originally meant to be on the album either, but something happened to Trent during the trip to wherever (can't remember where it was) he was while recording the album, which inspired it's creation.

He'd taken a break from it to go to a club (if I remember right), and met one of his ex-girlfriends by chance, there. They caught up with eachother, talked alot, and Trent found himself feeling things for her all over again. Only to end up being told (by someone else) that she was already with someone. But during their encounter with one another, she'd acted like she was entirely into him. Not saying a word about the "other guy".

After that, he wrote this song.

Trent actually talked a bit about it, during an interview a long time ago. He never said exactly that it's exactly the reason this song was made...but he did talk about the above situation, and it really does fit the song, perfectly."

^ maybe. where'd you get that from?

03/17/10 7:18 AM

i want to use the music "meet your master" from the album "quiet" in my short movie, is it possible?

03/17/10 8:10 AM

Really you should have permission from the copyright holder. Having said that, if it is a small project you most likely wont have any trouble using it. You could always go to interscope anyway and explain what you are doing - I did this in college and most companies will give you permission on a gratis basis.
