Sheepdean, between here and Twitter I can't escape you.

And Torrents won't be fast enough for me. I need instant gratification from official channels for Year Zero...

I am everywhere. Mwahaha.

It might be on BBC USA too, we don't know yet - and hell, I have to download it regardless, or wait months.

The near future? Year Zero show won't be out for quite a while still I'm sure.

Stupidest question on earth, and I'm sure someone has thought of it, but I can't find the answer...

Ok, in Closure near the beginning, they show a few staffers from a Cracker Barrel asking the band to sign a picture of Trent that they're going to put up over the fire place in their restaurant. The photo had already been signed by Trent. NOW, my question is: WHERE THE HELL IS THIS CRACKER BARREL????

Or is this the totally wrong and weirdest place I could have stuck this question, ever, in asking questions?

(Now, be it, this is assuming the place is still open (cough slim chance cough) and a staffer didn't steal it and sell it, or it was a strange con to get a signed photo by the band and these guys sold it or are privately coveting it, whatever, but sounds like a great and simple idea for a road trip to find the place once I know where to look!)

I'm far too tired to do this myself, but how about this: Use the list of tour dates used for Closure [www.ninwiki.com] and compare to [hosted.where2getit.com] Cracker Barrel locations. I can't think there's that many which are dead near.

i can only remeber the lyrics, there stuck in my head and now ive gotta hear the song. the lyrics i can remember are:
"how could i ever think... its funny how everything looks forward and it changed, its different now, just like you would always say well make it through, in my head there were thoughts where the FUCK WERE YOU"
maybe this goes in the random nin questions thread?
damn cant edit the title.

hi,

does anybody know what synths/samples were used on awp ?

also the description from this video says that it's taken from closure but I find only portions of awp on closure (at the end of disc 1)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1vxJb6MQ34

thanks

^ i've never seen TR discuss which synths he used, but that video is from the end of the second Closure disc. grab the free DVD prototype torrent!

Trent seems to be a Les Paul aficianado....at least on stage. I know he uses a variety of guitars in the studio, but he's been seen with a Les Paul around his body consistently. Actually, the few tours I've seen him without a Gibson or Epiphone Les Paul is the Pretty Hate Machine era and the With Teeth tour. I'm sure his affection for KISS contributed to his heavy use of Les Pauls as well as Robin's influence. Does anyone have an interview or a passing mention of why he seems to have an affinity for Les Pauls? I love the guitars myself and I'm glad to see a band like Nine Inch Nails being heavy users of a guitar that was initially designed for jazz.

Pretty much all guitars weren't designed for metal back in the day. It's not exactly uncommon to see any number of heavier bands use Les Pauls--Metallica even switched over for a while.

Also, somewhere I remember seeing a video segment or maybe it was just pictures where he was totally rocking a badass Explorer. I nearly creamed my khakis.

Hi everyone,
Is there anyone here who can help me with a college assisgnment I need to submit before the 5th November. I've picked it on Industrial Rock and in particular I'm focusing on the ground breaking release The Downward Spiral. I have all my research together but was hoping to get an interview or at least some extra info with anyone who worked on the recordings during 1993. I've emailing Trent and anyone onvolved with the album from the liner notes. Not sure if I'll get replies before the date due but I'm the optimistic type. Anywho, here's the rundown of what I'm looking for. Any help and any info which isn't readily available on the internet about the above would be greatly appreciated. I need this to be primarily sourced and that would mean anyone who can help me out directly. So basically it's an interview with a fan(s).

Cheers guys

Gary

In particular I'd like to find out how the albums concept came about and the production methods used as well as any particular synths or studio technology that was utilised in the creation of the record.

Of great benefit to my assignment would be any critical views by the media at the time and how this may or may not have affected the construction of the music and the general thoughts of the members within the band.

But seriously dude, if you want answers, try this page. It's got a ton of interviews on it, dating back as far as it can go:

Although it is true that most guitars designed back in the day weren't meant for heavy rock, few have transcended the times (and genres) like that of Gibson or Fender. Gibson and Fender are obviously the most notable ones and the fact that bands such as Metallica and Nine Inch Nails are using one or the other (or both) is a testament to the quality of its design (although some are heavily modded, the shell is the same).

I have also seen Trent rocking an Explorer...what can I say? The guy has great taste in guitars. I was hoping to see maybe a well-hidden interview with comments from him on the guitars he uses, but knowing how private he is, the chances are low that I would stumble upon an interview that hasn't already been read.

I think it's mostly that Trent (kind of like myself) isn't all that picky about what kinds of guitars he uses. He found a general kind that works, and then runs it through all kinds of effects racks and there you have it.

It kind of gets to a point, when using plugins and distortion and pedals, that it doesn't really matter what you're using, so long as it has strings on it and doesn't go out of tune. (Unless you want it to.)

I do know that even as far back as Broken, Trent wasn't micing amps, and I'd venture a guess that he still doesn't. I even know he uses a variety of Line 6 shit, which a lot of metalfags frown upon but fuck those guys.

(Heheheh. Buttfuck.)

I recently saw trent/peter/jeordie/atticus's cover of nightclubbing and thought it was stellar. The piano part was especially awesome. So awesome, I tried to learn it. It's not going well. I'd really appreciate any help I can get with the piano part. Thanks in advance.

Was out in a bar in the UK the other night, and they were playing all the latest 'hits'. Suddenly a song came on that featured The Only Time's instrumental bit that's featured in the live version of Closer. I could not believe my ears, obviously! Wondered if anyone knows what the song might be. A quick search on Google has not helped.

Has Mr. Reznor ever considered releasing a "best of" cd? I'm sorry if this has been asked before..

Indeed he has - [www.ninwiki.com]

There is NO physical release (all the ones you se eonline are bootlegs), and there are no original mixes or tracks. You can search on the pirate bay (seed0 is a wonderful user) for them, but there's nothing special but the artwork, which is already on ninwiki.

"the best of" nin CD was released in Ukraine if you so wish a silver-pressed one winking smiley

But it's not sanctioned by Mr. Reznor i'm afraid. Halo 17 counts as one though IMHO

Year Zero series/movie...how is that? Any news? Is it just a vague idea?
With all these shows like FRINGE or THE EVENT, isn´t Year Zero loosing his timing?

Can we do a thread about it? Who would direct it, star, mini-series or movie, etc?

thank you

He's said in a recent interview that it's coming. Slowly.

Stupidest question to ask, but,

I have very little training in electrical...studies. How do the NIN guys not electrocute themselves on stage? I see trent dousing keyboards, guitars, mics, himself, and bandmates with water.

If someone actually sampled that, I'm going to murder them. Sampling portions of songs to create a hook for another song is retarded. (Sampling drums or specific parts when remixing or covering the song in question, though, that's okay.)

My own question: It's one I've asked before. Did anything yet come from that old PHM demo tape with Terrible Lie, Sin and Sanctified on it? I kind of hope those end up on the PHM reissue if only so that we get something that isn't Maybe Just Once.

I noticed that the drumbeats in "Get Down, Make Love" and "HYPERPOWER!" are almost exactly the same. "The Good Soldier" is also very similar. Does Trent have some sort of favoritism towards this beat?

Also, that isn't The Best Of NIN. There's no Ruiner, Hurt, Head Like A Hole or Closer (which would normally be a given, duh). It can't be.
