Random NIN Questions for November 2009

Why is this topic split by months even if it's just 2-3 pages? Why not to cut it when it exceeds, say, ten pages?

12/02/09 3:27 AM

Is the band really over? Are they seriously no longer gonna make music?

12/02/09 3:28 AM

They're just done touring. Trent has said that he's still making more projects though.

Because some questions go unanswered and if it keeps getting extended they will continue to get lost and never get answered. Or so I would think.

Anyone know about this, i assume you do but i would very much like to hear it

What font is used in the downward spiral? Was it a made up font, or a manipulated pre-existing one or something else?

Okay, so last night I was watching this Music Choice channel on tv. They were playing a NIN song and they have like little facts about them while playing the song and I found this one that confused me. It said "NIN's touring band consists of Jerodie White, Jerome Dillion, Ralph Dieter?, and Aleesendro Cortini. Who the fuck is Ralph Dieter?

NIN didn't release any multitracks in Logic format, but there are quite a few in Garageband's format, which Logic can open. find them at [www.ninremixes.com]

edit: forgot to say that ninremixes only hosts the raw uncompressed sources. so you'll have to load all the layers into Logic, start them all at the same time, and screw with them from there.

Does anybody know what's the song playing from the PA right before Mr. Self Destruct on The Downward Spiral : Live DVD?

The story's similar to Rich Fownes'. Ralph Dieter's name appeared before With Teeth was out ([www.theninhotline.net] - scroll down to Thursday, 1/06/05)

Reznor's also on the original song, not just the remix.

Does anyone have that quote where he's talking about how he's like chillin in best buy or some big store like that and he sees how his CDs are really over priced, specially compared to all the other CDs?

Try this (I'm not sure where you can find the audio)-- it may not be the only place he mentioned it, but it's the first I found: [www.theninhotline.net]

I created a little issue down here because the first thing I did when I got to Sydney is I walk into HMV, the week the record's out, and I see it on the racks with a bunch of other releases. And eery release I see: $21.99, $22.99, $24.99. And ours doesn't have a sticker on it. I look close and "Oh, it's $34.99". So I walk over to see our live DVD Beside you in Time and I see that it's also priced six, seven, eight dollars more than every other disc there. And I can't figure out why that would be.

Did you have a word to anybody?

Well, in Brisbane I end up meeting and greeting some record label people, who are pleasant enough, and one of them is a sales guy, so I say "Why is this the case?" He goes "because your packaging is a lot more expensive". I know how much the packaging costs: it cost me, not them, it costs me 83 cents more to have a DC with the colour-changing ink on it. I'm taking the hit on that, not them. So I said, "Well it doesn't cost $10 more" "Ah well you're right, it doesn't. Basically it's because we know you've got a core audience that's gonna buy whatever we put out, so we can charge more for that. It's the pop stuff we have to discount to get people to buy it. True fans will pay whatever". And I just said "that the most insulting thing I've heard. I've garnered a core audience that you feel its OK to rip off? Fuck you". That's also why you don't see any label people here, 'cos i said "Fuck you people Stay out of my fucking show. If you wanna come, pay the ticket like anyone else. Fuck you guys." They're thieves. I don't blame people for stealing music if this is the kind of shit that they pull off.

why was there not a video made for "Last" and why was "Last" not included in the Broken movie? I can understand that Suck and Physical were covers, but last is right in the middle of the album and as far as I can tell has no official video and was not used in the Broken movie? Great song, highly under-utilized in the NIN world. Hard as hell to sing on Rock Band. anyone know?

the only thing I remember hearing is that TR (and Peter Christopherson and the other directors involved) couldn't figure out something suitable for the song, so they left it out.

Why is this happening to some of the videos on ninofficial's channel?

What's the chances of the 'Machine' from the 'Happiness In Slavery' clip going up for auction on e-bay?

I'm not actually joking.

Probably not anytime soon.

12/16/09 6:18 PM

So I was whistling 1,000,000 and I was wondering does the guitar riff borrow from Man Who Sold The World?

Aww. Where's the fun in that?.

So, wondering if this is kosher: Is there any reliable resource to download the Big Whole Mix of Down In It? It's the one that's super-quiet and mostly features Trent whispering throughout. I haven't been able to find it (and I figure since it's never been officially released it wouldn't matter too much if I at least asked.)

I know it's available on Purest Feeling II and Demos & Remixes (which are the same thing?) but I can't find a reliable download for either of those. And I *know* these exist because I did have them before but lost them to a hard drive crash.

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it, but I guess I'm still looking for the other Sanctified demo (not the one from Purest Feeling) and the Down In It III demo, which is similar to Purest Feeling but missing the screams in the intro.

Only as much as that cruddy new Green Day song borrows the drum beat from 1,000,000.
