Random NIN Questions for December 2009

I'm starting a NIN tribute band and was wondering what kind of synthesizer Trent uses or what is the best. Also what are the cheapest-priced, best quality synthesizer recommendations?
Thanks!

First off TR has used many different Synths that im aware of. Im sure somebody else could help you out with your question, i believe there is a website that includes every piece of equipment the "live band" ever used. You could also search Ebay for the actual NIN equipment!

My random question is....What is the material used on the cover of PHM to appear as a ribcage?

Reznor stated in one of his posts on the Prodigy service in the early 90s that:

"The cover of PHM is a photo of the blades of some sort of turbine stretched vertically so they would look somewhat like bones or a rib cage."

I hate posting new topics because when they're repeats I feel like the red-headed step child who broke mom's new china dishes, but here it goes:

Does anyone know if the translations from French to English [or vise versa] for La Mer are correct on this site:

I love the words in English, and if I used them for something, I think the French would be cooler, but I don't want to look like a douche and try to use one of the other and have it incorrect.

Sooo...
Help?

Thanks. =3

Yes, they're the words printed in the Fragile booklet.

01/05/10 5:56 PM

^ but they're not a literal translation in either direction. the english words are what TR wanted, and the Creole French spoken samples, when translated directly, actually give it a different picture. check out [www.ninwiki.com]

^^But how could you tell which one is supposed to be "first"? Seems like a far stretch to me.

Does anyone remember if the rehearsal vids from The Slip were ever available for download on Vimeo? They're not currently, but I thought I recalled them being so once.

Hello to all, this is my first post.

I observed that Trent started to play guitar a lot more after he got clean (With Teeth and forward). Is there a particular reason why? He use to stand and sing quite a bit, but he plays guitar quite a bit now. I know both Jeordie and Justin can play guitar as well as bass, so it's not because of the lack of stagehands.

My guess is that he just found ways to add layers and substance to the songs, so he played additional guitar in songs that he didn't before. Just my guess.

TR didn't direct Into the Void.

I found this and I'm wondering if anyone knows when or for which album or event this picture was taken?? It looks like The Perfect Drug era to me ...

Also I don't know who the two are behind TR.

That's Charlie Clouser and Danny Lohner in the photo.

01/13/10 2:39 PM

That photo appears to be around 1996 / 1997, when "The Perfect Drug" came out ^^^^^

I have a question...It's actually a NIN REMIX site question if that's okay....I can't seem to log in...I'll log in, and the site will log me right back out???? What is that about??? I can listen to it, but I can't make play lists like I used to, or comment on people's remixes???

as people have said, that's from the Perfect Drug era, and since it looks like they're on a road (telephone poles + car headlights), i'd say it's a promo shot for Lost Highway.

Actually, the guy on the left looks like Richard Patrick. Danny Lohner's the other guy for sure.

Trust me, that's Charlie Clouser, nucca. Richard left NIN back in 1993. This photo was taken sometime in 1996 or 1997.

01/14/10 7:10 AM

^ indeed, it was rather silly to suggest Richard Patrick would have been anywhere near TR in a photo post-Broken.

i quote myself, if it's not a problem, to say

bump! xD

by the way i noticed that the thing of the image slideshow could be found on the website's description of the dvd-a version of the disc, not on the sticker over the cover itself. maybe this feature was removed due to time/disc space reasons.

anyways the question is still open

^ i don't use the DVD-A layer (don't have a DVD-A player, and there seems to be a serious lack of OSX software that can handle it or even rip it) but i can confirm that the DVD-V layer has never had a slideshow, just the tracklist with a line next to the song currently playing, for both stereo and 5.1 playlists.

Why does the song "Every Day is Exactly the Same" sound different on Halo 21 compared to the song "Every Day is Exactly the Same" on Halo 19? It's a very slight difference, but I hear it the most in the vocals.

01/15/10 10:19 PM

^ i've never noticed any difference at all, save the fading out of the ending (proof it was ripped right out of WT).

01/16/10 7:11 PM

I was considering purchasing the deluxe edition of the downward spiral, but have concerns about the remastering. Can anyone tell me if the Deluxe Edition is louder than the original, since these highly compressed remasters have most of the dynamic range sucked out of them, it would kind of be a sticking point for me as I can't even imagine listening to Hurt without the dramatic shifts in volume dynamics present in the original.

So, what's the verdict? Thanks!

01/17/10 3:14 AM

Original waveform screenshot: [i50.tinypic.com]
average RMS volumes: Left -14.50 dB, Right -14.21 dB

Remastered waveform screenshot: [i45.tinypic.com]
average RMS volumes: Left -13.34 dB, Right -13.09 dB

some people say "OMG the dynamic range is gone", but the clipping is gone too - so see for yourself and decide which is worse to you winking smiley
+ don't forget about surround version on DualDisc and SACD (also more pictures in booklet)
