Random NIN Questions for January 2010

Ok. I'm only asking this here, because I'm not sure where else to put this. I couldn't find an e-mail address anywhere on this site.

Anyway, I'm currently putting together an online portfolio for my art, and I was just wondering if I would be able to play some NIN on the site? It's a flash site, so they shouldn't be able to be downloaded. I can provide a track list, if the rules are different for different albums.

Thanks.

If it's from Ghosts I–IV and/or The Slip you can use them as long as you're not generating a profit from your portfolio. For everything prior to 2008, you need to contact ASCAP to get a license to use it:

Hello there.

I am in a music college, and one of my projects in my rhythm class is to find a rhythm that intrigues us and teach it to our class.I have chosen March of the Pigs from TDS.

It states on Ninwiki that March of the Pigs (the drumbeat, anyway) has 2 measures of 7/8 and one measure of 4/4, and then two measures of 7/8 and one measure of 4/4, and so repeats.
I understand the dilemma that wikis put forth in that the information is not entirely set in stone and can be slightly off at times, which is why I'm attempting to clarify, and hopefully find a decent notation of the drum part, if not the song itself.

If someone can help me I will be very grateful.

Trent, if you read this, it would be very awesome if you could help if you can.

I don't know that asking on a message board will get you any more reliable an answer than a wiki...but I believe the pattern is three measures of 7/8 and one of 4/4, with straight 4/4 from "all the pigs are all lined up" through "doesn't it make you feel better?" And if you listen to the live outro, it's taken from All The Pigs, All Lined Up which stays in 4/4. I'm afraid to say I don't know of any official or unofficial notations, sorry.

02/05/10 9:05 AM

^ actually, i'm pretty sure the live ending takes parts of the All the Pigs, All Lined Up ending but keeps it in 29/8, like the verses (but someone should check and verify, because i'm really bad at time signatures and subdividing time!).

anyway, all you have to do is count it out – it may get a bit muddy once the guitars and vocals kick in, but you get several bars of the drum/percussion loop and bassline to practice on (or loop yourself). it runs at 269 (or 134.5) BPM.

So, March of the pigs is the fastest nin song, now which one is the slowest? Corona radiata?

02/05/10 12:32 PM

hello! i was wondering if anyone call tell me what Reznor is using on mic stand during the LITS tour. it is also mention in this apple mainstage clip , i have tired looking for something like this but its been really hard!Mainstage

02/05/10 12:57 PM

I think it is just some kind of control switch. Could be any kind I guess to work with mainstage. You could ask in the Gear forum.

Is there anywhere I can find the musical notes to The Hand That Feeds (Stripped). I would really like to play this on my keyboard. But I cant transcribe it myself.

why don't you just PM the person who made it? if they have a remix.nin.com account, they have an nin.com forum account.

yessir, both Lights in the Sky and Corona Radiata are the slowest (55 BPM).

Try searching thepiratebay.org, it may be there. If it's not, I can just send you it over email if you want.

IMDB gives the composer as Trevor Rabin, sorry. (As does the trailer, now that I've sat and watched it.)

I can't seem to get the user to contact me back. Any other help for me?

02/11/10 11:54 AM

http://www.theninhotline.net This is where I got most of my NIN keyboard music from. http://mailto:melissa@mormolyke.comShe does a wonderful job transcribing. If The Hand That Feeds isn't on her site, you can contact her using the address above she will accommodate if possible. By the way, it's all free. If she can't help, she should be able to direct you to someone who can. If all else fails find a conversion chart from guitar to keys.

I'm looking for a good high quality version of Last (Audio), preferably live. Any suggestions?

02/13/10 8:45 AM

^ download the HD video from NIN's Vimeo account and rip the audio with Quicktime's Export feature (or several other programs).

I believe that there is one specific woman that Trent writes about...

Am I right?

And how significant was she?

also...is this a retarded question? hahaha

I think that Trent stated somewhere that much of PHM was about an ended relationship of his, so it's possible that songs like "Something I Can Never Have" or "Sin" have a woman's face behind them.

^ but then he's spoken before about how Sanctified is about a "relationship with a crack pipe" (echoed later by the song With Teeth but seemingly about alcohol there) so that doesn't necessarily hold up even for that one album.

Love is not enough, We're in this together, Piggy ...have all been questions of mine. "Something I can never have" and "Sin" were fairly transparent the first time I heard them. Wasn't really a need to know question, just one of those things ya know

On which album does the "Now I'm Nothing" studio version exist?

- Cole.
