The next Nashville show will be my third NIN show in two months. I generally see about 10-20 notable shows from a wide range of artists a year, but NIN has seemed to me, by far, to be the most technically and visually advanced performance I've ever personally witnessed. I've always been sort of a tech. geek, so when I see a performance like this, it inspires me to question what kind of other things are possible on a technical level. I'd really like to know what kind of VJ software is out there, and in particular the kind that NIN uses to sync. their live show. I understand that Moment Factory provided most of the physical architecture, but I don't understand what the specific software they use. What is possible with the current software available? I thought it be nice to have some sort of DAW (Logic, etc...) to video integration, so that you could incorporate real-time video sequencing plugins to Logic so that video sequences could be dynamically triggered by keys in the audio. Again, I'm not familiar with the tools available for dynamic video sequencing, so maybe this is already being done. I understand that NIN triggers many of their sequences in creative ways like tracking physical movement across the stage and probably by manually tapping MIDI signals. But are sequences triggered by, for instance, the amplitude of a particular instrument? Is software available to associate a particular sequence with a real-time audio cue? | |
