that's not Trent on the stylophone is it? is he doing a collaboration with Rolf Harris? he's headed for Oz, why not? I can't keep up anymore. Please don't tell me there's a cover of "Two Little Boys" coming up - that song brings me to tears every time.

JMJ is very intelligent and well spoken. I think that is all.
That's all? I thought he's also a quite passable bass player...or am I confusing something? tongue sticking out smiley

PHM was embryonic. NIN has found a sound all of its own over the years, the early years were part of the process and no less important than any of the later work, but in my humble opinion, I think Trent's work has become more distinctive and "apart" as time goes on. revisiting old haunts might be sweet and nostalgic, but it's a bit icky unless you're doing a retrospective, and that is usually reserved for has beens trying to get back in there. NOOOOOOOOOOOO. completely inappropriate - the man has a lot more in him. NO to reworks/ editions. the stuff is still out there for people to listen to, it does not need to be re-edited for any anniversary.

I agree. Remake/anniversary albums are not the sign of an artist that is coming from a fresh perspective. TDS Deluxe might be that special exception- or maybe it had more to do with his Interscope contract.

So, I am hoping for a beautifully stripped down version of AATCHB-live

Seeing it live may keep me from having to be committed-seriously

I hear ya. Sorry about all of the misery 'round you. I just wanted to blab at someone else that actually uses the phrase "NIN fixes my chi."smileys with beer
I practice a mix of Qigong, Tai Chi, medical QiGong, kung fu, Taoist practice, old shamanistic stuff, and standing and posting meditations, with a bit of yoga thrown in there. I've got a very knowledgeable Sifu, so my stuff is varied.
And so is my music. With Trent's vast music catalogue, I can always find something to fit. And fix my chi.
Funny, when you use music as we do, it becomes sacred.

Eric looks a lot like Trent in those pics. is there some deeper hidden meaning, to refresh our memory and make things easier? Trent is the new Eric? Trent is producing JA? Trent has incorporated JA into NIN (NINJA)? or maybe Trent just likes taking pictures of bands and teasing us with stuff? he'll no doubt tell us soon. let's just keep speculating, maybe one day we'll get that coffee we were promised.

02/13/09 5:05 PM

Yeah, he just likes to tease us with us. I be he is just waiting for this thread to get to 100 pages before he tells us the whole story. At this rate though, it won't be long.

If there are still contractual niceties out there to be serviced, fine. I'd rather spend my money on the new, non-contractual stuff. whatever the deal, it's great to see development beyond the past.

02/13/09 5:12 PM

Sounds to me like Trent's definitely producing a new JA album...

From a new article posted at:
Sydney Morning Herald

Here's the passage that stood out -- in bold below:

"I wake up at 6.30 in the morning and go to bed at one in the morning and every second of every day is planned out," he says. "I'm trying to do the best thing I can do and I hope you like it but if you don't, that's OK. I'm not trying to convince you to like it."

As well as producing an album for an undisclosed act, Reznor has been reshaping Nine Inch Nails. Drummer Josh Freese departed the fold recently because of family commitments, with Ilan Rubin (Lostprophets) replacing him, while keyboardist Alessandro Cortini ("one of the world's most miserable people", Reznor suggests without warning) has also dropped out. Reznor will now double as frontman and keyboardist, a decision based on shaking up the band's live output.

fair enough - you haven't got my knickers in a twist, I just don't understand why a vital, developing artist would want to re-release anything that is still widely available unless he was desperate. anniversary or no. it just seems a bit premature. "NIN's Greatest Hits", "Trents Top Trenty Hits" - NOOOOOOOOOOO! please. If 20 years need to be marked, it is with moving forward. that's what appears to be happening just now - so, no to nostalgia fests and yes to new work.

Even I know, that's NEVER going to happen! winking smiley I find it's just easier when you label, and lay the pieces out, when trying to solve something. Some people didn't know who some of the photos were of. And it's a lot more fun trying to solve it, than someone just straight out making an announcement.

As far as JA joining NIN, I can't really imagine it. If they happen to eventually tour together. (Perhaps when in the states, JA would probably just be opening for NIN) There's definitely a new album though, no question.

I would quote both Perfect666Drug AND soma1 if I were smarter (or just had more time - it's late this side of the pond - I'm old, I really need some beauty sleep). Speculation is what keeps these forums going, so that's great. Wanting something because it seems like a worthy milestone is fine, too. I actually agree with you both in some way, but not in others. I still want my coffee, but not served up in a 20 year old cup.
