Rob, is there going to be a way we can see every photoblog pic uploaded somewhere?

I was wondering the same thing. It would be much appreciated.

This isn't an official but I've been keeping track of the photoblog pictures here:
http://ninblogs.wordpress.com/

They do a pretty good job and it's very organized. But I'd be curious to see what Rob could do. Or maybe that's one of the features already in the works?

The Photoblog is a fleeting, unarchived thing. Because of the instant, casual nature of it, an official archive feels inappropriate - it's more about stopping by the site and seeing what the band is up to at that moment. Sometimes the photos are less about a photo of something and more about just keeping you updated as to where we are. We'll leave the archiving up to the fans, who are doing a great job of it anyway.

EDIT: And to clear up some confusion, the photos on the photoblog are all taken with our iPhones, then sent to an email address which posts them immediately on nin.com. This means that when a new photo goes up, it was probably taken less than a minute ago. Ally and Trent post their photos directly from their own phones, and the site knows whose phone the photo is coming from and labels the post accordingly. Obviously the quality of the photos is a lot less than what you'd see from a real camera (particularly during the concerts, which are extremely difficult to capture with a crap-ass iPhone camera), but they have a kind of interesting aesthetic to them (the era of low-quality cell phone photos is going to be a brief one, which will make these photos interesting relics five years from now), and the tradeoff of quality is the ability to get them on the site instantly, with absolutely zero effort. The photos you see on the Flickr account are the ones I take with a real camera (a Canon EOS 5D that I really want to upgrade).

Fair enough, I guess the fan archives work well enough anyway. And it looks like they'll be integrated anyway.

08/16/08 9:10 AM

Damn, man, that is a lot of money...

08/16/08 9:58 AM

That picture makes me angry at the gas prices. I mean, jeez.

I've added this link to the first post of this thread. If there are other archives out there, please pm the links to a mod and we will add those also.

What about putting the photoblog in a different location, like on the side of the page? That way any official news that needs to be posted can be left in the main section, without having to put the photos on hold for a day or two so that everyone gets a chance to see the announcement, like when a show gets canceled or something. And it feels weird that there's no official archive of the posts. I dunno. I guess my vision of a perfect nin.com is one that you can go to as a source for every imaginable thing related to the band

I think you'll like the new main page that will go up when forums/chat/profiles go out of beta.

P.S. You could also start archiving all the photos somewhere on these forums, then they'd technically be archived on nin.com.

Thanks for the reply even though I wish I hadn't of flubbed my sentence. Don't forget to backspace when rephrasing something, kids. *face palm*

That looks like pretty awesome camera. Just wondering what you're thinking of upgrading to. Are you going to stick with Canon? (sorry that this is also slightly off topic)

Hey Rob, you don't trust JMJ, Robin or Josh with an iphone or do they have Verizon Wireless?

True. I'll trust what you guys have planned. I wasn't expecting the current main page to be the final product of what you've been working on for all these months anyway. Can't wait to see what comes out of it. Thanks for the response

Ah, about those, why are they at such a small resolution even when we go to view them full size? Would it be that bad to put up some high resolution shots?

Agreed 100%! I could never understand why the full resolution photo is not posted. Bandwidth/hosting isn't quite an issue since Rob goes through flickr. It would be absolutely mind blowing to see every official photo to be usable as a wallpaper because we all know we've wanted it to be! I just love when I set my eyes on a hugh high quality photo from a show and i can look at the details and look at misc things that interest me. There may be some important reason as to why it isn't so, but for the obvious reasons it seems kind of odd.
