This could be a creepy little shout out to deerhunter. Hell, you could throw their logo on there and call it merch. It's still yucky at best and disturbing to look at though.

Believe me, the Chinese are resourceful and don't let anything go to waste. Americans do that.

The chinese and the taiwanese are single handedly destroying the worlds oceans by ruthlessly destroying shark populations. For what you ask? All for their fins. They haul them up by the thousands per boat with illegal long line fishing methods, slice their fins off, then dump them back into the water to bleed to death. Its disgusting, its horrible, and it makes me ashamed to be a human. The killing of animals for useless "luxuries" like shark fin soup has to stop before we are left with nothing but a shell of the world in which used to exist before we started to mess around with it.

And I doubt that they eat the fins alone. Another example, sushi...it's popular world wide thanks to the Japanese. The fish population, especially tuna is being depleted in Asia, Europe and America. Yahoo news did a report on it two months ago.

I am not saying that this is not a problem, nor is the shark depleting population is not a problem, however, I doubt that the Chinese are killing shark for the fins alone and not using the rest of the meat.

There is a fine difference between talking about extinction due to depletion for consumption versus extinction due to just wanting to use an animal's body part for poaching.

Someone posted a page back a comic about rhino in Africa being killed for poaching. Yes, that is wrong. You kill a rhino for its husk, but you don't utilize the meat for food. Now if someone wants to kill a rhino for food and then use the husk for medicinal purposes...that is fine by me.

However, even with the poaching, I blame the African poachers not the Chinese herbalist. Poachers are creating the market. The Chinese are only buying a body part of an animal that has already lost its life by someone else.

Trent's such a good Daddy. Deer for the dogs and bee pollen for TR. What treats are you going to give to YOUR CAT or did the dogs eat the cat?

Trent ate his cat and dog. The reason why he went to Chinatown in the first place...to get some more meat.

And tendoin my ass. If you look closely, that looks like deer teeth and upper palate connected to a long neck. That does not look like legs to me.

Disgusting and expensive.
I guess my dog would like to taste it.

The only way I'd even touch one of these deer tendons is to use it to bop Mr. TR over the head a good one for showing this to us in the first place.

Why do you hurt us so?

go to savingsharks.com or sharkwater.com, watch the film

you will see that there is too much profit for shark fins for them to take the whole shark and use its meat, they have no need for any other part of the shark. There is countless hours of footage out there to show that this is happening, its been happening for years and years. They haul them on deck, they slice their fins off and then they dump their writhing bodies overboard to die in the water. This is poaching at its worst and it is wiping out the sharks. But there is no law in international waters, so it continues. Honestly, read up on this, it is quite unsettling to hear what's happening out there.

MmmMMMmmm. The pleasures of bulk food shopping.

09/26/08 6:11 PM

*shrugs* The new pic's not bugging me so much. I am kinda curious as to why he'd buy something like that, though.

Then again, maybe he's not even buying it - he just wanted to take a picture and show us all what he's looking at. tongue sticking out smiley

If you've never dressed an animal you have no idea what you're looking at.

Random half dried animal limbs with some fur still on it....yum?

Then that is wrong. But as for Trent's photo people were complaining about the dried carcasses of animals most likely not being poached otherwise it wouldn't be sold openly in Chinatown. Not to say that illegal poached items are not sold underground in Chinatown. Lord knows I know they are...I ate cat in a Chinese restuarant in Chicago!

Looks like some good eats in Argentina, wish I were there to chow down with you guys ! Don;t cancel any shows down there due to indigestion now! (and maybe save some voice for us Americans?)

09/26/08 7:28 PM

Just because they're different, doesn't mean they're gross. Well, ok, they probably are, but I'd try them. I've had worse things in my mouth.

09/26/08 7:29 PM

Chinese are pretty cruel at breeding and slaughtering animals...seeing this pic makes me disgusted.

09/26/08 8:33 PM

They look the same, what are they used for anyway? Food?

"decisions, decisions"
darkest of darkest humour ...the next endangered species I suppose (the sea horses all but gone...)

on the subject of aphrodisiacs:

just fuck already.
non-humans will appreciate it no end.

I am watching this great program called Aftermath: World Without Humans. It's fascinating...at the moment, increasingly desperate pets without their stewards are hungry...things escaping from zoos, chemicals exploding, camels in graveyards etc. oh,oh, the plants are now starting to go into meltdown...

(great avatar I second, by the way...)

Conservation Status

Seahorse populations in the wild could vanish if they continue to be exploited for traditional Chinese medicines, the aquarium trade, and as tourist curios. Countless seahorses are also lost every year with the destruction of their coral reef, sea grass, and mangrove habitats. More than 20 million seahorses are collected each year, causing some seahorse populations to crash by 50% over the last five years. These and other results from the first major study of the international trade in seahorses released by TRAFFIC, a global wildlife trade monitoring group, suggest that Hippocampus erectus should be considered threatened. Coincidence and Causality

And what do we have
But the ingredients for disaster
A people bare and dry
A globally gruesome scene
And all these things
As of yet unseen

And what do we have
But the capacity for greatness
Riding in our tanned hides
And striking back at the whip
Waiting to break the last lap
And throw the little man
From off our backs

Flip the damn coin
Choose your side
It’s 50/50
And being human
We’re sure to let chance
Decide

I wrote that before I stopped by to see the picture here tonight. Yeah....I think that's the best comment I could make on that picture before I ever even saw it. Nice.
