Let's not start something like that in here. This is a big night for a lot of people, in terms of both excitement and sadness. If you can't see that, don't post about it.
It isn't rational to get all emotional over a band dumbass

If you think it isn't rational then you've never enjoyed music. That requires feeling an emotional connection to it. Lots of people feel emotionally connected to NIN, so fuck off.

Trent is nin. The rest are pretty much just hired guns.

Still, the rest of the band really does have a presence. After recent years I can't imagine drums played by anyone other than Ilan Rubin. And Robin Finck's guitar has really fucking impressed me. Trent may have made the band, but the rest of them are more than just supporting cast.

I think Robin is a part of NIN, NIN without Robin is not really NIN for me

I love all the guys who are currently part of NIN. Sometimes I feel kinda bad that when I think of NIN I just think of the guys currently touring, but I never really paid enough attention to know the past members.

I like Finck, but honestly, I thought Aaron was better... sorry, to the Finck fans out there, but for me, NIN live lost something with they lost Aaron.

Fuck Aaron North.

Fuck you! -

ok, that was too easy.

But seriously, I don't get the Aaron hate. One thing is that Aaron (visually) is PURE energy, rockstar... always balls-out on "eleven"

Two - man Finck plays some straight out garbage sometimes - such as the shit he plays in Mr. Self Destruct- it fails to even approach the actual riff, the "Ruiner" solo sounds like dick, and his tone - what in the fuck is that suppose to be?

But opinions vary... thats mine.

It's all good. I just didn't dig Aaron's style. It was a lot sloppier. And you've also got to remember that MSD was played balls out with 4 guitarists on the WT tour(s?). Things tended to blend together better as a 5 piece, and with this current line up, it has a much rawer sound. I like this raw.

Indeed. The WT version of MSD was SICK... that I will say.

I like the rawness too... I'd really liked to have heard/seen a linup of TR, North, JMJ, Cortini, and Rubin - woulda been interesting.

Nah its depth... and in today's musical "landscape" their just isn't much of it. I mean you can't write a song that is 6 minutes long and they only lyric is "shake that ass" and have people wonder "I'm not quite sure what that is about?" Could it be about shaking your booty or possibly some metaphor for something else?" It is what it is.. flash in the pan, sell my 1,000,000 albums and be broke after blowing it all as quick as the "artist" made it.

okay, settled in for a few hours, have my MP3 player set to shuffle, *right now, 8/26 recording of Non-Entity is ringing in my ears* and I have my glass of absinthe.

To Us, To Trent, to the past 20 years. It's been a hell of a ride.

09/10/09 9:27 PM

ill keep this short as its about 4:30am here and i should be asleep but alas im not. so my favorite memories are of 3 'events'
the 1st is that the first time i went to see NIN in 2007 i won to meet them. and to meet a then band of, aaron, josh, twiggy, alessandro and of course trent, was amazing! just that each member had so much past. i was meeting them all but with only a little chat it was enough to know how lucky i was/am and that was just my first NIN show!
the 2nd one is at reading 2007. the first time i had seen them with screens and only the 2nd time ever. it was amazing i didnt think i would ever experience that feeling again. it moved me and devoted me for life.

and the 3rd and final is from the recent european tour. i attended both london and manchester dates and throughout these dates i met many people either after the show, on the train or in the venue. all i can say is that NIN has the best community of any band i have known. so many different ppl who have had all found NIN at different points in there career and as someone else mentioned it doesnt matter wen you have such a passion for something. so those ppl whose names i do not remember heres a little message:

I hope you got back to auz safely
i hope your wedding went ahead as planned and you had La mer on the big day
I hope you enjoyed the wait of 18 years to see NIN. and u enjoyed Terrible lie.

oh and the feeling i didnt think id feel again i defiantly felt at the london 02 arena show! I think that will be the best show i will ever see from any Musician.

Many Thanks for the memories, 6 gigs, and i look forward to what comes next grinning smiley

[sorry this doesnt make much sense as i said sleep deprivation]

i have a feeling this is in the wrng thread...

emotions are not rational = about reason, that's sort of the whole point.

- - wait, are you trolling, "one last time"?

09/10/09 9:28 PM

Night NIN'ers I will wake to a non-NIN live world. I cry at the very thought of it.

HEY LET'S ALL DISCUSS WHETHER OR NOT AARON NORTH SUCKS, THAT'S TOTALLY THE BEST THING TO DO RIGHT NOW!

i like aaron and finck. aaron cause that is when i got into them so for me he is the gtrist with NIN but robin is awesome. his guitar sound for SUCK live is stunning i have never ever heard a gtr tone like it! but yes aaron is more of a showman. in all honesty i cant choose...

For a band like NIN that is important to some and causes strong emotion, loss can initiate the grieving process. It's not uncommon.

I'll be sad about 9/11 in an hour and a half when it is 9/11 here, until then let me have my grief over NIN.

Hey now, we all know Finck's past, but this ain't no G'n'R forum.

09/10/09 9:38 PM

My moment: June 1990 the girlfriend puts on the Pretty Hate Machine cassette... yep cassette. Remember those things? Turns up the stereo in the house and I say "This SUCKS! What is this electronic-synthie-bullsh*t!!" She assures me it's good. So the next day I pop it in the car stereo for the long drive to work. And HO-LY F*CK was I wrong. Each track more compelling and then the previous one. By the time I get to work I am hearing the whispering of Ringfinger and I am out of my mind! That cassette was not ejected for the rest of the summer and my life has never been the same. Thank you Trent.
