An English adaptation would bring the story to a far wider audience.

Simply for the fact that it's American. American remakes always out-do their foreign predecessors by ten-fold even in their own countries. There's no reason the foreign film can't be brought to a wider audience. The only reason is the fact that stars are used to sell movies. People don't recognize names like Noomi Rapace or Michael Nyqvist, but everyone knows Daniel Craig, and especially "Oscar Nominated Director" David Fincher.

I don't see what James Cameron's apparent "wisdom" has to do with American remakes of foreign films? Here's a fun fact, in 1997 he did True Lies, which is another American remake of a French film from 1991, La Totale! A film that you can't find anywhere nowadays and you probably didn't even know it existed.

These films hardly ever compliment each other. Except for "The Seven Samurai" and "The Magnificent Seven," "Blood Simple" and "A Woman, a Gun, and a Noodle Shop" (which is actually the OTHER way around.) Quarantine and [Rec] were both allegedly based on the same script, but if you watch Quarantine after [Rec] everything is exactly the same, aside from the faces and language. If you watch "Let Me In" after "Let The Right One In," you'll gain no new insight, no deeper understanding, as many of the shots and dialogue were the same, and the story was simplified and spoon fed to us.

I have no doubt Fincher's version will be good, its the moral integrity of the film that troubles me. If I had never known about the Swedish film I would be very excited, especially with Reznor and Ross scoring. Everyone will rave about how good this film is, and the original one will become obsolete.

not mad at all about the vampire movie news. pah. i don't know. just seemed too obvious or something. keep us guessing trent!

More NIN material. Just what my incessantly starving mind needed to hear. I'm very pleased to hear this fantastic news. I've been wondering of these things lately. And more HTDA. I'm eager to hear what's developed with that project as well. Covering new ground with soundscape, musical, and lyrical expression. Very rich artistic material. And I found the social network score to be very impressive. An ambient instrumental album which stands on it's own, needing no film to accompany it. Trent, In my opinion, you've certainly mastered your craft. Artistic genius, (sorry for the ass kissing). I just like to give praise to where it has certainly been proven and earned. A new score with the next Fincher film means only more great synthesis ambient material. I'm 100% sure we won't be disappointed. Overall, From Trent, we can expect deep stimulating sounds and music, expressing just as well as his, or hers, (Mariqueen) lyrics. Electro sounds, noise, and music, (Love his piano pieces) which conveys a mood, or situation perceived and interpreted perfectly in one's own mind. A ghostly abstract entity. It's not just notes and words, its an experience. That's art.

And last but certainly not least, now the "Year Zero" idea comes to life on HBO. The HBO productions are always above the mark. Fuck network tv, HBO is the only worthy outlet for an actual series. Though I've never seen "Carnivale", I've enjoyed plenty of others, The wire, Deadwood, The soprano's, Oz, and so on. This "Year Zero" concept has me quite excited. I love the album, and if the series follows closely to the album, then what a splendid show it'll be. Tragic and cathartic. As a fan and passionate admirer of the work of Trent Reznor, it's a good year. Much to look forward to. I hope the creations of Trent will be exposed to a broader , but particular audience. Such artistic talent should not go unappreciated.

I think your argument would hold up if I didn't see the entire Millennium Trilogy at Target the other day. Further, if the books weren't selling amazingly well.

It's incredibly "cool" and "indie" to be like "fuck adaptations of foreign films". God, how I hate people that wear cred as a shiny button. It's like pitchfork, largest group of pot smoking hippie douche bag reviewers I've ever seen. If it's popular "fuck it", if something has a catchy pop hook "fuck it", not "indie" enough.

It's a comment on this attitude.

This issue hits me harder because I'm trying to be a film maker, and would hate to see someone take my work, dump money and famous people in it, then take the credit and make more money off of it while I'm still unknown and unrecognized.

The idea being stop trying, more doing and less bitching. Did you see Kevin Smith bitch continuously about how someone might rip him off? Nope. He spent years and shit tons of money, commiserate to his income, to make Clerks. See Trent bitching in the formative years of NIN making PHM? Nope, he went and busted his ass and got it done.

I see so many creative people go "I need x, y, and z before I can do anything" ... Now, more so than any point in the history of mankind is it easier to engage creative pursuits.

Some of the stuff I'm working on software dev wise? Taking me forever, had more than my share of personal problems, being done on a shoestring budget but I'm not bitching about it. I'm the one responsible for my own progress, ultimately.

Here's some alternative advice. Stickbeast if you're both writing and directing, try writing it as a book first.

I am very interested with the Year Zero Project, what actors, how you'll use the music, and perhaps maybe even new music?, Don't stop doing what you love....P.S., How To Destroy Angels is awesome.

Really it's the apolitical thing that might have me looking at the series like it's pushing an ulterior point of view. I really hope it transcends some political madness only belonging to capitalists and conservatives and sticks to corrupt government in general. I know plenty of zombies on the left. Guess we'll see.

03/26/11 3:47 PM

It's not my show, and I don't know how it works. But, I would generally agree. I felt the story told through the album was very much about the creation of fear, the artifice of religious belief and greed. Greed, corruption, and religious mindlessness aren't the sole province of the left or right. Everybody wants (and thinks) "god" is on their side. What if "god" isn't?

I still want to know what the presence is. That has been bugging me since the album's release. There are plethora of theories out there. Totally waiting for that as a reveal in the show.

I thought the presence would turn out being a manmade weapon by a person wanting to be God. Sort of like a Mark of the Beast thing. Seems like it would tie in. I suspect the roles of god, man, good and evil will go through some reversals where you aren't suppose to know which are which. At different times what seems good is evil and what seems evil is good, then the story flips. I think Capital G also has a double meaning, because there is god non-capitalized usually in reference to polytheism, and then capitalized God in monotheist belief, but a G.W. Bush repeat would seemingly want to posit themselves in that direction.

Although religion is generally taught wrong, I think everyone benefits from research on the subject so they can make up their own mind. Better to be neutral than too sure.

Sorry if that sounded pushy and impatient - but I am SOOOOO looking forward to seeing the direction that this is going to go, storylines, characters, soundtracks, etc, It's very exciting for us fans to see the new projects.....and the uk fans are loving the HTDA stuff, you constantly surprise and innovate and are a great artist to follow, I guess because you're not afraid to experiment - I personally think it's fantastic that you don't churn out the same stuff constantly as a lot of artists do....no fear man....true innovation is always gonna get criticism on many levels, but we the fans appreciate this no-end, sincerely. You guys always rocked, and continue to rock, hopefully for a long time to come. We await with interest and baited breath to see what you come up with next, always surprising - never boring, and very inspiring! Kudos!

It's just nice to hear from you Trent. I haven't heard if you had a son or a daughter - I'd like to congratulate you on the birth of your first offspring.

Most fantastic to hear that you are still releasing new materials for your devoted fans - It keeps us going. You will always need to express yourself artistically - so i guess we can relax and not worry of a dissappearance!

Too bad about the Vampire Hunter; I have always wanted to see Trent take on acting. Based on his videos, I believe he would fare well...he has a great sense of drama. Plus he would make a damn sexy vampire! (Sorry, couldn't hold it back)
