So, NIN's only gonna play an 1.5 long set?

And that is different from all of the other shows how?

Shows from the LITS tour were approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes.

and on every tour before LITS it was usually 90 minutes sets. LITS was the exception, not the rule.

Thank you Dori.

Calm down guys, Broken_Spiral asked how this was different from other shows, and so I gave him an example. His post made it sound like NIN has never played more than an hour and a half.

Gives Trent time to change into his Vulcan costume.

LOL, I'd dress Vulcan if I had the ears, too. Everyone from that show should dress Vulcan for it - wouldn't that be cool?

In a way I'm really sad to see no STL date, but on the other hand I'm glad since I'm so poor right now that no matter what the price of the tickets, I'd likely have to really scrimp by for a long time just to be able to go. Wanted to do some video work and post it for fans. But, I guess I can always look for other fans footage, edit it and post it for others to enjoy.

I don't really care about the band order too much, but imagining the flow of the show with this line up in this order is strange - curious to see how that will work out, you know? Interesting.

However, I ended up going to see them play a small club here a few months ago, and it was one of the best shows I've seen in a long time. You guys really should at least give them a chance, even if you think you don't like them. Sometimes seeing a band live can make you appreciate their music in a whole new way. And to people who seem to think the pit for JA will be a bunch of hippies waving lighters... yeah, okay. You keep thinking that.

Have to agree with him. I'm giving JA a chance, since I'm not a big fan. But again, go ahead and leave and clear out the parking lot if you insist.

I plan to stick and see Jane's Addiction but I feel a lot of fans will simply leave after NIN and that would be sort of disheartening to JA.

I think it will totally depend on the city.

I saw Jane's here in Toronto at large arena and there were probably 14,000 at the show, a few years later promoting that shitty album they did two shows at a large theatre with a combined attendance of probably 4,000.

Then again that was several years ago, who knows.

I really hope a large part of the audience stays, because Jane's are a fantastic live band, but I'll be in the pit, so if the other 17,000 in the seats behind me don't care to get the most out of their expensive tickets, fuck em.

04/28/09 6:35 PM

First of all, this is a Nine Inch Nails forum. Of course many of you are going to be upset. But JA has such a big following that I would not be surprised if more people are happy about this than upset.

For all of you who are saying that you are going to leave, thats very disrespectful, and I hear that JA puts on an amazing show! Also, for those saying that the ticket prices are so high for NIN to be playing last, my ticket was only $19.91 for a lawn seat. Thats cheaper than many concerts I go to (including NIN last fall in Kentucky).

And haven't any of you been to a concert and fallen in love with the opening band? Maybe this will be the case. I know that I am going to stay for the JA performance (partly because I like JA and I am traveling two hours to see it). But I guess it will be a better experience for me if all of the negative energy is out of the area before they start playing. I applaud NIN's decision and cannot wait for the concert in Noblesville/Indiannapolis. Thanks for putting this together Trent.

It's Trent's party. If he wants to sit on the lawn and watch Jane's Addiction more power to him. If you guys leave without seeing JA it's your loss. They are fantastic live.

04/28/09 6:37 PM

Everyone will be suprised about how many people are still gonna be at any show after NIN's performance. JA still has a huge fan base and there are people out there who would kill to see them again. Plus the fan base for JA will surprise you as well in the pit and how the pit might just be. I know I was suprised when I saw STP here in Chicago last May and surprised as to how the pit was.

People need to stop bitching. We get NIN, and then JA closes. It's not like JA is Nickleback or anything, they're fucking great. This will be a great tour, and I can't wait to enjoy every second of the Toronto show.

Sure does...."great" isn't it? All these people bitching that JA is closing (Id kill to see them live) and Chicago doesn't even get a full set + no JA.

Keep in mind an awful lot of thought has gone into this decision - certainly MUCH more than most of the comments here. The beauty of the situation is this: if you want to leave, LEAVE. Nobody's forcing you to stay - go home.
The show NIN is going to play is the exact opposite of LITS. The sets will be truly varied, there's no production limitations and we know a LOT of material now. I wanted play first, and I wanted to start the set in daylight. If you're here reading and frothing on this board, you're likely a fan. You've likely seen us recently - this is a chance to see something quite different. JA is not bigger than us and we're not bigger than JA - this is an issue of respect and simply WHAT I WANT TO DO because I do have a master plan here. Open up your minds for a second and lay off the knee-jerk reactionary bullshit for a second - it's embarrassing for all of us.

I guess they're setting it up as a swan song for NIN and having Jane's close as a re-emergeance type thing. Dissapointing but we'll see how it turns out...

Hmmm... when I saw NIN in Duluth last year, Trent was walking around the outside of general admission during Deerhunters set, for most of it, actually.

So, I'd say it's not too unlikely.

Didn't mean you per se, but I'm sure there are plenty of people underestimating the level of energy that goes with their show (I used to be one of them).

04/28/09 7:48 PM

I was worried somewhat that this would happen. I figured that because JA and NIN are kind of at par with each other, having been established around the same time and the tour being NIN/JA (rather than NIN/JA/SSSC) that NIN may not be the last band playing.

It does suck to a good degree for NIN fans:

1-We're used to seeing them play last and having that build-up of anticipation for it through the opening acts.
2-As has been mentioned before, this means they'll be playing mostly in daylight-this is actually something of a mixed bag-for people wanting to photograph/film the show, taking advantage of the lax camera policy it's actually kinda GOOD.

Video capturing in-particular needs good lighting-I remember at the LitS shows being pissed off because my digital camera would stop recording when things got too dark-making capturing a video of "Vessel" impossible because every other second the stage was black. Still photography also benefits-use of flash is less required, and it can often lead to over-exposed results at close range with most standard cameras. Really, darkness can be a bitch when trying to photograph things in general so like I said it's actually somewhat beneficial.

On the downside of course the light show isn't quite as impressive. Sure, as people have mentioned it probably won't be anywhere near LitS-scale, but given NIN's overall track record it should still be something interesting to watch. One might consider however that things will be adjusted appropriately to be optimized for daylight conditions-although they may also need to take potential cloud-cover into account. Well anyway at least the music will be good. The other aspect of it happening during the day that's kinda sucky is just the ambiance of it-NIN has a lot of songs centering around darker themes and yet it could be a bright and wonderful sunny day. Actually, another thing to consider is how the different venues are situated in relation to the sun since it would be more or less in the process of setting as the set goes on. Okay, I'm thinking aloud a bit here. lol

Anyway, I think it'll be alright and Jane's Addiction has really started to grow on me. I even downloaded their full album (Nothing's Shocking) for Rock Band 2 today and it's pretty fun to play. I'm sort of wondering though if they're going to play anything from Strays because I actually think that's a pretty good album if a bit different from their earlier material. I'd really like to see them play "True Nature" and/or "Just Because".

I hope that wasn't directed at me - I'm not bitching! I was just asking because I was curious. Everyone living in Chicago said you had to stop at 10 pm and since I don't live in Chicago, I have nothing to base it on but people who do live there. And I wasn't one of the people bugging you on Twitter either (which seems ridiculously rude) about the Chicago show. I think you need a hug back for all the shit people are posting on here. So, *hugs* back. smiling bouncing smiley

90 minutes is the exact same lenght of the previous summer amphitheatre tour in 2006. 25 songs... It's just like LITS without the YZ/Ghosts sequences. As long as the setlists are varied, I'll be 100% satisfied.

FYI, you can probably mosey on up to the lawn after NIN plays. There were times when I had closer seats and friends had lawn seats, and I was able to go to the lawn to chill with them for a little bit. There's no harm in trying. (:

Trent - I'm not sure what you were expecting from your fans. OF COURSE this was going to happen.

And no, I'm not saying that because I'm "hating" against this choice. I'll be rocking out on the rail (or being pummeled against it) and enjoying the entire experience. BUT - I don't think any sort of reconciliation from you or anyone else is going to help redirect the naysayers toward seeing a more positive light on the circumstance (no - not even Meathead).

Some people are just going to be asshats, no matter what.
