This is an absolute outrage! NIN only playing a 90 minute set during partial daylight? To be fair, I think the bands should rotate every night and let each other take turns closing out the show. Don't get me wrong, I love Jane's but the last two times I saw them they played surprisingly short sets anyway. They've been away for a long time and are not quite the draw they used to be. You are going to see a lot of people leaving this show early. I'll be there until the end. I am just really disappointed.

I bought tickets to 5 shows on the west coast, I just wish I knew this ahead of time.

Hopefully, Trent has something up his sleeve and will come out and perform with JA for the encore.

Is this a stellar lineup? Yes
Open camera policy - Awesome!

Hopefully, the organizers of this show will realize this mistake ahead of time and give the fans what they want. Maybe we should start a petition?

Other than Slayer...is there even anyone worth seeing @ Mayhem Fest?

depends on what you like, Manson would be cool, but it's not like 1997 when he was really really good. A whole lot of growling-death metal as far as I can tell though.

smiling smiley

There are a couple of bands, both old and new, that I am excited to see...Marilyn Manson and Slayer are my tops, but also some of the newer bands seem pretty good as well...I hate death metal, but they have some really good side bands and the motocross show is great too.

Yea, Ive heard Manson puts on a good live show.....I know Slayer pits are second to none, cept amybe Pantera back in the day(rip cfh), but have yet to see a NIN pit. It was fun listening to Cannibal Corpse - Fucked with a Knife...when I was 15...and the rest are all nu-metal sad smiley

you people are retards. you are getting 3 amazing bands for the price of 1, and it would be completely disrespectful to leave in the middle of a show. disgusting.

Exactly. NIN got their first major world exposure by playing Lollapalooza, which was created by Perry Ferell (of Jane's Addiction). If it wasn't for Perry Ferrell, I might not have ever heard of NIN (But something tells me that I would have anyway). Both bands are awesome and it's AWESOME AWESOME that they are on one bill. Expensive, but worth it.

I guess this is the "old people" tour.

I'm not disappointed by this at all. You want to know why? NIN is still playing, and I still get to go see them.
That is all.

I don't care who closes, first time seeing all three. Just want to see one hell of a show with my #2 son. (18) And thanks for relaxing the media rules, hopefully Irvine will heed them, I'd like to bring my DSLR....

A little late in coming to this discussion (so many replies in so very few hours), but here's my two cents for what it's worth. I'm surprised to see JA closing. I've never been a huge fan, but having said that, I'm still excited to see them perform live. And it's still 1 1/2 hours of NIN, plus I'm guessing around the same for JA. Which means for the price of my ticket, I'm seeing three bands, two of them with full play times, as opposed to one major act with two openers. Besides, whichever order they choose to play in, they still have a general idea of when each band needs to start and stop, according to the time allotted to them by the venues for the entire show. I don't see what difference the schedule makes as far as quality and time goes. Though I can see the people who are there for NIN more than for JA wanting to have that last bit of music that they hear being NIN.

Too bad. Nin fans arent required to be JA fans because trent likes them. And they arent required to be happy about the situation, ESPECIALLY after paying 100 dollars for tickets. Honestly i want a refund, but im trying to calm down.

So you bought tickets to a show with two headliners and you never considered the possibility that the one you like more might not be playing last? You never once considered this as a possibility, especially given the fact that two bands can't play simultaneously?

oh sure i considered it, but all implications were against it. JA still listed as ~support~ on the tour site. And the tour is called NINJA not JANI. Logic was against it, especially every night. But you know, whatever.

I agree, this is the exact listing from the Livenation website when you click the NINJA site buy tickets link:

Home »Artists » Nine Inch Nails »Event Detail

Buy Nine Inch Nails concert tickets for the 05/08/09 show at Cruzan Amphitheatre.
A Live Nation Concert

Nine Inch Nails / Jane's Addiction Concert Tickets

All Ages
Friday 05/08/09 at 7:00 PM
Cruzan Amphitheatre
West Palm Beach, FL

CONCERT TICKETS

There is no doubt that this shows an insinuation that NIN is the headliner/closer. It doesn't say "Buy Nine Inch Nails and Jane's Addiction" and the listing is under Nine Inch Nails, not Jane's Addiciton, even if you search for Jane's tickets and click on it from the search.

TR: this is an issue of respect and simply WHAT I WANT TO DO because I do have a master plan here.

and from Twitter TR:-this way I can join you on the lawn after my show and watch one of my favorite bands every night.

Clearly this is the initial trail runs for the new Rock of Love Tour Bus series. Brett Michaels had to schedule some "things", and had asked TR to step up. (we all know that the gang loved that show in the bus) After NIN is done, TR will be able to leave the stage, and sort through the crowd and make his selections. In fact maybe the series will be more like a morphed Rock of Love/Bachelor/Lost kind of thingie. All that can be worked out later, but we HAVE to have the freecreditreport.com guys sing the intro.

Actually that pic is from the Mayhem tours PR department. MM is following trents lead, and cutting down on the theatrics.

Wow...

I'm blown away by the majority anti-Jane's sentiment... when I first became aware of the NIN/JA concept I just became so happy that two of my most favorite bands of all-time were gonna be sharing a bill... I could care less the order they play in myself. I'm definitely looking forward to Street Sweeper as well...

Who saw the original Lollapalooza? Remember that southern Cali stage set with the palm trees? Remember how remarkable a job Jane's did in closing out that awesome day of rock and roll? I can still see it... burnt forever in my rock and roll memory.

Dave Navarro was just reminiscing on the NIN/Jane's Addiction relationship over the years on his Dark Matter internet radio show last Wednesday night... looking back on Lollapalooza 1 he was laughing that Jane's was on top of the rock world while NIN played during the daylight hours. He went on to say that Jane's broke up shortly thereafter while NIN just kept going and going... then he says, "now we're just Trent's bitch, he let us clean his pool last week".

All I'm saying is that if you're a fan of music... stop all the hating and do yourself the favor of being open to this WHOLE experience... chances are it'll never happen again and that's good enough for me to recognize this as exceptional and not to be missed.

... confusing... just seems weekend shows would be longer then weekday shows.

i'm not complaining just confused on this, i'm happy with just 1 hour a nin personally but kinda disappointed that weekends are less time.

They should all be the same. If you count on JA playing 90 minutes, weekdays are 7-11 (4 hours) and weekends are 730-1130 (4 hours).

Can't wait to go to the show in Camden!

certainly staying for the whole thing.

I hope you ALL leave after NIN. I'll pass you on your way out so I can take your spot & get my Navarro on. I paid $100 so I'll stay to watch the cleanup crew dance a f*cking jig if they want to. I bet Trent can't wait for this tour to be over so that he can be rid of you assholes.

Haha, you know it man. And even as a die-hard Jane's-head, this is surprising news. Especially considering that this is a NIN farewell tour. I have nothing but the deepest, most profound, unreal respect for Trent Reznor. I am a hardcore NIN fan along with you guys and either order would have worked just fine for me, honestly. But for me this is the cherry on top. My only wish now is that we all walk out at the very end saying "That show just fucking rocked" and everyone will be a 100% hardcore fan of both headliners, which they both are. Stress on the words "at the very end".

04/28/09 10:25 PM

initially i was somewhat disappointed JA would be closing, i've never seen them live or heard much of their music for that matter. logically i didn't think it would make much sense, NIN would leave a better taste in the mouth leaving the venue. But i support this decision and i love music, so i'm gonna stay for JA. I mean why not? there's no better way of opening yourself to new music than seeing a band live. if you're not happy with the decision then sell your fucking seats and get your money back, no ones making you go.

I will still have a good time regardless of who plays first. keep a positive attitude people.

I've been reflecting on this----- Actually, for me, I'm truly extremely glad it's being lined up this way. Trent's master plan is excellent, as always.

For me, being at a show and seeing the art in motion is deeply moving. So at the past 2 shows during LITS, when it was finally over at the end of the night, I kind of felt like the immediate "ok, now we have to herd our way out in this crowd and try to get out of here in barely moving traffic" cheapened the experience, by distracting me from important reflection time. It would be like waking up from a profound dream in sudden chaos and thus having a harder time recalling important details (if any fellow oneironauts are reading this you'll understand exactly what I mean). Did I still go away feeling like it was a life changing experience? Yes (as my first 2 times seeing NIN). But thinking about that and looking forward to how the sets are planned for this tour, I realize I am very much looking forward to this band sandwich as it was referred to in a prior reply, as it is going to delay the chaos of "the end" and allow me to integrate the experience in much more meaningful way.

some fans here wonder why JA closing the night.
But I do understand why Trent has made this order. He put his note on the other day to let us know they are going to tour together and they are now good friends. As some mentioned this is going to be the last tour of NIN for a while and yeah,NIN should be the last guys to play. However,I do respect the way trent shows his respect to Janes Addiction and he thanks to JA for old days when NIN just started.
I personaly think this decision is sooo Trent.I think he never forget to repect people who work with and for him and friends of him.
Guys, Lets have a great time at the shows!!

Everybody's getting way too heated about shit that doesn't matter. If you like the band, what do you care when they play? If you don't like the band after, leave... who cares?

If you're going to one of these shows, you're among the lucky who have the expendable cash for a not-so-cheap concert. That's excellent. You are already having it your way. Do you need the sun and the moon at your feet, as well?

I've never seen NIN or JA before, this summer will be my first for either of them. I'm just excited as hell to be going - not so much concerned with who goes when. And trent is a master showman... I'm sure he's worked timing into everything.

Deep cleansing breaths. Everybody.

04/28/09 10:33 PM

man, I don't honestly care who plays first, I didn't know JA's music very well before, but have seriously opened myself up to them, and you know what? I totally dig them. I'm cool with the playlist of bands.

04/28/09 11:36 PM

ok... either way your seeing 1hr 30min set of NIN during dusk or during the night. Its the same!! the same sick songs! a varying setlist each night, and a kick ass band, an open taping policy, WHAT MORE COULD YOU ASK FOR?!#%@$%@$

I think everyone needs to relax. its called NINJA tour for a reason!!!!
