NIN Crew,

Thanks for putting this tour together. I am very excited to get to see JA for the first time. I have always been a fan of theirs, however, touring has been scant from them as of late

And, to all of you who are planning on leaving after NIN exits the stage, please, try to reconsider. This would be extremely disrespectful to ALL of the bands that are sharing the bill. I am just thankful that I get to see NIN for the 12th time and JA for the first! Who care's who performs first or last. Regardless, you get to see NIN destroy you.

Try and stay to experience Janes, even for just 10 min. If you decide to leave, fine, you gave it your best shot. And, I will be happy to occupy the the seat that is closer to the stage that you paid for! >tongue sticking out smiley

The show NIN is going to play is the exact opposite of LITS. The sets will be truly varied, there's no production limitations and we know a LOT of material now. I wanted play first, and I wanted to start the set in daylight. If you're here reading and frothing on this board, you're likely a fan. You've likely seen us recently - this is a chance to see something quite different. JA is not bigger than us and we're not bigger than JA - this is an issue of respect and simply WHAT I WANT TO DO because I do have a master plan here. Open up your minds for a second and lay off the knee-jerk reactionary bullshit for a second - it's embarrassing for all of us.

TRent Ill put it like this ... All Most of us nin fans are really upset about it that
we all love NIN in its fullest with vivid lights durring the night .. Here in INdiana we have that gay ass day Light savings time ... Meaning it even get dark here untill 9 .. So most of the nin show will be in daylight ... Which is very disappointing .. I have finally got my little sister which i have shown many of kewl LIve NIN videos to come with me thins time to come see you .. She is 15 .. Which is the age of my first NIN show ...
Well I was very excited to show my little sister the awesomeness of nine inch nails and its light shows that accompany it . Come to find out NIN wont even be closing the shows .. Jane's addiction will be . Which isnt bad untill you think this. NIN will start playing at between 7:45 and 8:15 depending on the day ... So they will be playing in fucking daylight for half or more of there set !!!! And with daylight savings time like here in indiana .. It means even more daylight for ni to play in .. which is highly upsetting since the lights wont be near as vivid ... I wouldn't be mad at all if NIN would delay everything for a hour ... i still wanna see NIN ... But if this is possibly a good bye from NIne Inch Nails ... A band i have spent at least a grand on since i became a fan 10 years ago .. Dont i deserve to see NIN in the greatest lighting and sound possible ... If trent would Just make it at Night.... Maybe even wait till the exact time of sundown ... I would be much happier .. As a matter of fact i would be even happier then if jane would have opened for NIN ... Cuz then i could just see nin in its greatest and not had to wait as long to see it .. Anyhow .. I hope Trent reads this ... And see's that i did indeed put thought into my comment .. Not all NIN fans are mindless dicks ... Alot are kewl ... Like me (" dont that sound arrogant "}lol .. And alot are sad folks who are kinda wierd cuz of it .. ( like me 2 ) And some are just pissed off at a currupt world full of lies and terrorisym of the mind brought in by greed , religion , and politics , and others are just dumb ... Dumb people are everyplace ... So dont be mad at your fans .. They just wanna see the best of you .. I still am excited to see NIN .
Trent has every right to be mad at the stupidity that's roaming around this forum. He's been working his ass off as well as JA & Street Sweeper and all you people are doing is complaining about what time they are going to play! Get your heads out of your ASSES!!! NIN doesn't have to play at night to be at their best/or put on a good show. As a matter of fact, they don't have to play at all if they don't want too. This is the way the man wants it...GET OVER IT ALREADY and respect his decision!!! I honestly don't think that there is anything that could make alot of you people happy. Like Trent said, "Leave...Go Home." I say...do us all a favor and stay the hell home! You can read about it later...then you will TRUELY have a reason to cry...TK angry smiley

I think it would be interesting to see NIN in the daytime, and like I said it's better for filming and photography. Also, if the sun gets to setting in just the right way it'll be totally awesome.

I wonder if NIN will be having an encore worked into their set list, or if the encore will be a "duet"-type thing with JA-like starting with maybe a couple last NIN songs then ending with one or two JA songs with Trent in them as a kind of "transition", which I believe is similar to what they did with David Bowie (with Bowie singing in "Reptile" and "Hurt" and Trent in "Scary Monsters" and "Subterraneans" ). The way I could see this being difficult of course is the fact that it's set up with 15-minute breaks for the next band to go in and set up their equipment so if anything NIN's "encore" could be just having the lead singer from JA (Perry I think it is-sorry I haven't been into the band long enough) do a couple songs with NIN, then the break-then Trent comes out with JA to do a couple songs-although it would perhaps be better to make it a "surprise appearance" in the middle of their set-it might work better for NIN fans to have Trent there at the beginning just to "draw them in"-at least if they haven't left already during the break.

So anyway whatever they do I'm sure it'll be awesome. I also hope they play "And All That Could Have Been" for the first time during this tour and either make it a "staple" (I know they're probably planning to have as few of those as possible during the tour but I think the exceptionally rare/never been played before tracks should get special treatment given the fact that this may be their last tour in a while) or just play it at the Kansas City show I'm going to (I'd rather have it be a staple though so I don't feel as selfish about it, though. lol). "Sunspots" would also be awesome just because it's been requested so much and I don't personally care whether it's sung the same way it is on the album or not.

Oh yes, and Trent I'll be the next person here to THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING-Ghosts, The Slip, the LitS tour, playing "The Wretched", "Down In It" and "Reptile" in Minneapolis, the gift footage, the relaxed camera policies and despite the disadvantages of a daylight show I'll still thank you for that because it'll probably make filming and photography easier overall. I'll also thank you for the fact that I'll get to see you play a bit sooner and that I won't have to deal with quite as many assholes trying to boo Jane's Addiction off the stage when they play. Last of all thank you for Nine Inch Nails itself and just for being you-because YOU ARE AWESOME. I won't say you're a God 'cause that's idolatry and I'd don't roll like that but I will say you are "Closer" to God than most people (not in a spiritual/religious way, more in a hierarchical way, lol).

And to SickMessiah-I won't accuse you of complaining-I think you put what you wanted to say quite well and your concerns are valid to some extent. Regardless of that, I don't think Trent's going to change his mind about it-the arrangement is kinda set in stone as it were. But again I'm sure the show will be awesome enough in other ways to make up for the fact that it's happening in daylight.

And wouldn't it be awesome to see them play "In This Twilight" when it's ACTUALLY twilight?!

Don't get me wrong: you have every right to be disappointed that JA is closing. But the excessive whining has got to STOP. If it is so upsetting to you then do what has been suggested several time in this thread already: SELL YOUR TICKET.

I know I'm late on this part, but thanks Trent and Co. for the later than expected end time to the Chicago set. I was only worried because I know how lame Chicago can be and wouldn't expect any less out of their noise curfew.
And now I'll hold my excitement for one more month...if I can.

04/29/09 4:58 PM

being that there is a break in NIN and JA's set, a segue similiar to the NIN/Bowie tour is probably out of the question. at first, i was upset Jane's is closing the show. then i got to thinking, Trent's been on tour for the past four years and in that time has released four records, including going out of his way to ensure the fans get the best concert experience ever, and now all the hard work the man has done (if you're closely paying attention) is coming to a close. let him do what he wants! no other band has been as innovative as NIN, and seeing them more than a handful of times as a headliner, i don't mind seeing them right before Jane's. this is a respectful thing to do actually. Besides, if it wasn't for Jane's and Lollapalooza, Trent's career might have taken longer to pick up. to someone who's been vital to your success, this move is the greatest form of gratitude you can give.
if you don't wanna see Jane's, fine, leave. i've never seen this band live and i'm looking forward to see what i'm sure will be a very good show.
then again, if this doesn't work, maybe we'll see a similiar move to what NIN did after the Bowie tour, DO A CLUB TOUR!!!spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

ah yes, i MIGHT have an extra ticket (upper balcony) to give to anyone who would like to attend this show. my buddy is still 50/50 on going. i'll give a head's up in time!

I love Perry Farrell as much as anyone and get shits and giggles out of his peculiar rants but this is one tour when I really really hope he keeps control of himself and doesn't have a case of the verbal diarrhea. We don't need to give some of these pretentious NIN fans (SOME!) any extra ammunition to bitch about Jane's's performance.

04/29/09 5:09 PM

i forgot to mention it's an Austin ticket... wrong thread!

04/29/09 5:14 PM

It doesn't really bother me that NIN isn't closing. I mean sure, in my mind being a bigger fan of NIN than Jane's I would have them close, but it doesn't matter to me. I'm surely going to stay for Jane's because I'm still really excited to see them play. I'm just excited that this tour is coming to Phoenix because I probably wouldn't have been able to afford to travel like I did for two shows on the LITS tour.

04/29/09 5:20 PM

JA is a huge reason alternative music gained success and recognition in the early 90's and was partially responsible for getting NIN some well deserved attention. I think it's awesome Trent is allowing JA to take the headline spot. It would almost seem irreverent and egotistical for it to be otherwise. Anyone skipping this iconic band is ridiculous and will be missing some of the most creative, timeless and influential music out there.

04/29/09 5:30 PM

I don't care who's playing when. They're not even coming to my city.
At least I got to see The Killers and Coldplay.

Killers fan 4 life!

04/29/09 5:31 PM

Well, I absolutely LOVE both BOTH bands. They are 2 of my all time favs (tool, floyd... and so on... And nothing against Janes, I'm sure they will be amazing... But I'd HATE to follow NIN... No matter WHO I am. (Anyone remember Bowie? lol) 'cept for maybe Tool...lol. SO yeah, disappointing. But there's no WAY I'm leaving early. JA is a very good band. Anyone who leaves early is a douch. And maybe Trent is doing it out of respect or something. JA did give NIN a hand up back in the day... who knows.. Besides, I'd be willing to bet Trent will be doing something with them.

I guess that is the way it goes with good music, that your ears aren't trained for.

After some years now I have realized that if I don't like a song or album on the first try, it because it's really good and I am just not ready for it at that time. Sure enough after about 5 or so listenings straight through I am usually hooked and that album soon becomes a favorite.

As with Saul Williams, there are some songs that I think are OK and some I don't care for at all. As with Jane's...when I was 16 I bought Ritual...hated it. When I was 20 tried nothing's shocking, didn't care for it. Now I'm 34 and bought the Best Of CD...it's really not all that great. Yeah, there are some good songs, but I just can't stomach them. I don't find anything appealing about thier music. Most of the lyrics...well...just don't resonate with me anything like NIN, and now SSSS, do...

Nothing Shocking and Ritual de lo Habitual are 2 awesome albums. Expand you music a little people. JA helped change the face of music. Some people here seem like they are coming for a light show. I've seen NIN play shows that started during daylight hours twice (last year at Virgin Mobile and with Bowie in the 90's) and they were both awesome shows. It's about the music - lights and technology are great but are secondary. I can't believe how much some of these assholes are pissing and moaning. Stay the hell home. That way I don't have to hear you scream and sing along to Head Like a Hole and Closer and then talk and chatter through songs that you don't know because you skipped past them on the cds.

Really...and I suppose "you people", as in his fans, haven't done anything for him huh?

No, when he was an up and coming "nothing" we didn't support his rise. We he produced some shitty bands like "Pop Will Eat Itself" and "Coil" we didn't buy those records to show our support. When he does any Halo we didn't rush out and buy them no matter how short they were. When Trent preached to us about thinking for ourselves, expressing our opinions, and questioning things we disagree with...well now that he has made a decision that many of us do not like...we're just supposed to bend over and take it and smile about it? Since when did discontent, questioning, debate, and thought expression (which is a NIN cornerstone) get thrown out the window just because Starfuckers will praise and agree with Trent no matter what he says. Fuck that. Trent himself would probably say the same thing. Why is it on here that anyone that disagrees with Trent ie what is mainstream popular on this site is lambasted and called a douche. Its an opinion. Opinion, debate, and thought create things. Not belittlement and popular opinion. I promise...if a "silent poll" were taken the decision for JA to close would not come out on top, no matter what everyone on here says.

I am guessing I am just old.
I remember being awe-stricken by JA in a small arena, their Ritual stage set was simply amazing.
I was into JA and NIN before the first lollapalooza.
I went to that show in Toronto in 1991. I saw Trent squirming while hanging upside down at that show and was blown away by JA that night. I was a few yards from Trent as a mudperson at Woodstock '94.

Considering my own feelings exclusively, I am fucking floored by the ignorance of the so-called fans in this thread.

I can't wait to see both in Toronto, maybe you lame shits will clear out of the seats so me and mine can hop the fence and move up and see whatever Grand Finale is planned. Sorta like 18 years ago.

edit: I just had this awesome flashback of thousands of wooden chairs being folded up and passed forward and aside, clearing the floor for one of the most awesome pits I have ever been in.
