When does Will I. Am typically post here?
Should it really surprise people that hardcore NIN fans would also be hardcore Nirvana fans? Honestly.
This is a by-product of the 90s, really, when if you liked x band you had to hate another band. Like if you liked NIN but listened to Bush you were a fucking leper. Or if you liked Soundgarden but also listened to Stone Temple Pilots it was a sin.
Or let's hit closer to home. Circa 1999 you either liked NIN or Manson, not both.
I think it's really a huge pile of bullshit. Sure, there are bands that honestly do suck, but a lot of people have very eclectic tastes in music and I think one of the most unfortunate things about the 90s, considering all the unbelievably awesome music going on at the time, was the general aura of animosity between similar sounding bands.
You also have to remember though that from the viewpoints of the artists themselves, it was like a 90210 episode. Trent and Manson had some sort of falling out that. Courtney Love did a bunch of stuff to irk other musicians. Axl Rose pissed people off to the point where no one wanted to work with him. Scott Weiland and Layne Stayley got to the point where they had to cancel sets mid concert because they were so haggard.
I'm just rambling but my point is that some of these bands made really awesome music that people overlooked because of this general sense that you had to pick and choose your camps and battles.
