Thanks for the clarification. It's "bellpepper" who deserves all the bad vibes currently being directed toward Melike.

Take note, people!!!

don't let the assholes bring you down. What you do is amazing my wife is backstage now meeting you and she is thrilled. Let me just say that people look at you and realize that not all addicts die. Many do turn their loves around am that on itself is a miracle. I am also a recovering addict and it's the hardest thing I have ever done could not imagine being in music biz. Trent what you do and who you are have been and will become is an inspiration to many. Like I said don't let the assholes bring you down. Thanks for everything. Derek

Oh dear god!
How can people be so cruel and horrible?
Fuck them haters.

06/05/09 12:01 PM

why would bellpepper even be on the nin site? let alone msg tr, dus he think that tr is so insecure that he will to as he is told or lol that tr would even give a shit about giving a shit about considering if his life is even slightly useful?

06/07/09 1:53 AM

People who talk shit get read and acknowledged. People who write with actual positive inquiries to an artist they have long admired just sort of dangle in the breeze unnoticed. Yes, this makes me cranky too.

06/07/09 4:29 PM

These people are either bored or psychotic, or both. Losing faith in humanity is optional, but you know there are just as many good, intelligent people as there are nonsensical, hatred-spewing fucktards.
We love you, dude.

06/07/09 9:46 PM

Understood. Yer allowed Trent. Even that rant about a common creative liscence crap. What the Hell was his point. I'm sure you have a reason that guy brought it up. Then he rants after a threat of police intervention. It's annoying even to a third party like me. Dude, f them. You made a serious impact on music ,video, and live performance. Not to mention innovations in web and net AND BEYOND. Get it out. Vent. Your real fans buy your art with the respectful admiration that fuels further art.
And I can say that cuz I've been in rolling stone ,NME and worked for enough bands to know so. Fuck that hater. You rock. And for the record (to other fans who may read this) I don't follow every move. I haven't seen NIN since Lollapalooza, though I do Try to stay current. But I know it's America, we can all speak our minds, but minds like those....don't get TOO upset. I liked the Cornell album too. A lot actually. But you don't. And you spoke YOUR MIND ON THAT. and still - good for you, YOU are allowed . It's America . You are just a better writer this your comments were (to me) a wortthy comment on how YOU felt. These haters on this thread however come across to me as lil Mark David Chapmans. And for that I understand your moods. But hang in there. Afterall , it's only rock n roll.

you know what, dude? miserable fucks like that are the reason the world is a rotating axis of shit. Dude, congrats, you are one of the strongest people I've ever met because you have not lost site of the ultimate goal: LEARNING from your past, keeping integrity and ROCKING THE FUCK OUT!

BTW: Was at Jones Beach and all you guys were AMAZING! Second NIN show and, although I am sad to see you go, good luck with all your endeavors.

Happy b-day, Dave! smiling smiley

I just found this...(Late for the pary AGAIN HAR HAR HAR) UM...this is what a friend of mine would call..."WACK-A-DOODLE on LINE ONE!"

WOW, UM...No offense Mr. Rez, but, given my own experience...I'm glad I pulled away from this when I did...and I too have gotten one HELL of an eye opener about "our fellow man" in the last two years believe me. And the idea of trying to meet someone to settle down with, let alone becoming a parent in this world really doesn't look terribly promising to me anymore I'm afraid, which is why it's heartening you've managed to do the former at least. smiling smiley

I haven't completely lost faith though, I do ocassionally meet good people and maybe because of your remoteness/celebrity/seperateness you don't get that opportunity to meet the same as much who knows confused smiley. And to be honest I think if you were just Trent the cleaning guy or Trent the Accountant I seriously doubt this sort of thing would even be an issue, I think it's one of those ugly things that comes with the life you've chosen...which doesn't make it right AT ALL but...either way I SO DO NOT BLAME YOU, I think you're perfetly justified in your feelings.

Just PLEASE remember for every Wack-a-doodle there are those of us who are GENUINELY happy in our own lives, down to earth, respectful and appreciative of you and your work, from far or near. So...we may all have our quirks but we do look up to you for all you are, all you've been, all you've overcome and what you've done/created for the last 20 years. SO...throw that salt over your shoulder and keep going! BE WELL DUDE! smiling smiley

I'm amazed that those people even took the time to write like that to you. Fuck them. I hope the energy they expel comes right back to them.

Also, I met you very briefly at the Wantagh, NY show. If you recall at all, I was the guy with the Broken CD that had been through the ringer... It was a huge pleasure meeting you. I thank you for such an opportunity, and the chance to donate to a great cause.

Badass show that night.
Rock on man.

Dear Trent,

I clicked on your profile to send you a pm, wanting to write you a note saying how much I (like the majority of sane normal people here) truly admire and appreciate you- but I notice that your pm function has been disabled. Given the sampling of messages you posted from random whackjobs who litter your inbox with such delusional nastiness, I certainly don't blame you (who has time for such shit?), but its sad that someone like you who has always gone out of his way to be accessible to his fans has to disable his messages on his own forum because of this.

I also noticed on your profile page that you're engaged- congratulations, I wish you both the very best.

Looking forward to seeing you onstage in Hamilton later this month.

Hugs, Laurie

[edit: Unfortunately, now that your site moderators have stuck this letter as the 300-something-th response on another thread, I'm sure you will never see this]

Dear Trent,

It was an absolutely perfect summer night for a concert (you even said so yourself). First at dusk and then under the stars, the music flowed graciously and passionately through carefully calibrated and perfectly tuned equipment in Holmdel, NJ last weekend (6/6). While it may not have been the best concert I've been to (for the record, With Teeth was) but you know what? Trent, you can never disappoint me.

While this low-key tour might seem anti-climactic to some, those of us who look at it from your perspective realize you just wanted to bring everything full-circle. Everything right where it belongs.

It is quite apparent that you are SO over this whole touring thing anyway. Not for lack of trying, but I'm sure it's more exhausting than it's worth on some nights, and you deserve some time off for good behavior. After all, would people (specifically, a few whining super-fans) have preferred you to simply say goodbye via Twitter without one last chance to see you?

I'm sure you've contemplated it; Just going away; And I bet you wondered how we'd react... but [luckily] you decided to give us one final tour. And we thank you for it. smiling smiley

You have given us so much more than music. You gave us a genre. You didn't just perform concerts, you engaged hundreds of thousands of fans through technologies that record companies haven't even heard of. You whole-heartedly embraced the social networking experiment [with everything you had to offer] and you even gave us all your music, for free, to re-mix and listen to however we wanted. We thank you from the bottoms of our hearts. While we may never fully understand you, we will definitely appreciate what you have begun.

At first I was sad, but now I applaud your decision in taking back your life. I can see how the bitter tail-end of the distribution (the lowest common denominator) of fans continue to get [further] under your skin. These people are actually disappointed that they will never realize their own potential like you have; Moreover, due to their self-indulgent sense of entitlement, all they can do is lash out. Meanwhile, the true fans appreciate how much of yourself you've managed to give us over the past 20 years.

You have finally reached the point where you are worn-out, sick and tired of giving so relentlessly to the very same insatiable community you have worked diligently to create [insert reference to irony]. As you defined and touched an entire generation, sorry, if at times you feel as though we have molested you in return.

While, some idiots abhor you for being their false prophet, ranting on your forums and sending you cruel, disgusting hate mail. Trent, don't let them get to you. Eventually, they'll find someone else to go worship.

These types of people are just piss-poor at articulating [and directing] their anger properly. It's easier for them to fixate on you (way bigger than themselves) rather than fixing their own lives. They flame you for not living up to their god-like status; However, did you ever ask to be their golden calf? Did you purposefully try to be The Giving Tree? Regardless, their rejections must hurt you most of all, Trent.

It's a 9.80665 m/s2 fall from grace.

Like mucous-coated fresh newborns, screaming to go back into the womb, these fans might fail to understand the essence of what NIN has given them.

More than concerts, cds, interviews, t-shirts, other artists, dvds, imagery, photos and mp3s... NIN has taken on the momentum of a movement. As evidenced by your recent Webby award, Trent, you are just as relevant as ever, having created beautiful and inspiring music for 20 years. *pat on the back*

And fuck Apple and the music industry for not getting that there's more to music than selling songs. If the 2 guys with "illegal" servers in Iceland have a better distribution model to do what it takes thousands of those greedy [record industry] assholes, I hope that they all go bankrupt.

Trent, over and over again your genius has been obstructed by bureaucracies and idiots, who will never fully understand it. Betrayed by those closest to you and underappreciated by self-proclaiming fans, nobody but you can possibly know how draining it all must be. The fact that you can channel all that noise into such creative, original and emotional music just further credits you as an artist [well beyond a musician]. It's only natural that your fans will always continue asking way too much from you.

I was 13 when I got my first Nine Inch Nails cd: The Downward Spiral. My parents refused to buy it for me, so I stole it from someone. I had to, you were the voice inside my head.

Just remember, we are all outsiders in your world. Ranting, praising, observing, craving, inundating, harassing, lusting, fighting, screaming, moshing, wanting SO BADLY to get in your head... Trent, it's only because we love you.

Thank you, for doing what you set out to do--you have truly created something way bigger than yourself.

Trent Reznor ftw!

That's a pretty nice message. Don't know if he's going to read it, considering the state of affairs lately on here and in other places, but that would probably give him some faith in some fans after reading. Hope he reads it.

I too was in attendance at Holmdel. Not going to go into as many elaborate metaphors and words as you, since there's no reason to attempt to surpass it. But, I just want to thank you and the band, Trent, for a really incredible, moving performance. I will not claim to be a super-fan, as I know for sure there are people out there who have been along the road with you longer, and know much more than I do about Nine Inch Nails. However, for the short amount of time I have been acquainted with you through this music and technology, you have done a lot to show your appreciation, dedication, and commitment to fans, even if they were unkind to you. You probably hear this every day from super-gushers and others of the sort, but I just want to give you my sincerest, truest thanks for what you have done for me to this point, whether it is the free things, the music, or the access you give to someone who has never encountered a musician of your caliber. The concert at Holmdel was my first ever live experience with NIN, and I am incredibly thankful to have seen you perform with such real emotion and feeling.

sorry to say that but, by posting those shitty messages, trent made a mistake in my opinion... 13 pages of FAME these assholes did not deserve at all.

i also wrote a pm - back in the days - to trent reznor, asking him who i could talk with to obtain an interview for the magazine i write for. well, it's fine for me not to get any answer (it's normal... i mean, how many requests like mine he'll receive every day? tons, i guess) but, to be honest, while i see all the attention these stupid persons get i feel bad.

to ignore the hundreds of good pm's you (used to) receive that's acceptable and reasonable... but please, if you do not want these idiots to win over this community, do ignore them too.

06/10/09 5:41 AM

@adilicious: Don't feel too bad winking smiley
I'm sure his PM box is filled every day with good AND bad messages. He just simply can't reply to all of them. And the topic was posted to explain why he's sometimes not in a very good mood, so those two users were used as an example.

I do agree, though, that maybe posting their usernames wasn't such a good idea, but then again, what better revenge can you have than an entire forum of angry people spamming those that bothered you so severely in the first place? XD

If you're tough enough to be so cruel and/or stupid in private, you should also be tough enough to accept the consequences.

-*-

As for the messages themselves; these two people are very clear examples of self-important asshats I prefer just to laugh at because they're so pitiful... o_O
But I suppose it's hard to stay unaffected when a large portion of messages every day consists of trash like that.

06/10/09 8:39 AM

artsybianca, i'll follow your suggestion and recover asap eheh...

joking aside, i don't think it's correct to post those messages... i think it's a question of privacy, even if it's clearly rubbish. said that peace out! smiling smiley

What I dont understand is, if these people hate you so god damn much, why on earth would they 'waste their time' on sending you emails in the first place? They're just angry by the fact that you were able to become something that they can never be, they know that they can never surpass you and musical genius.
People will always give shit to the ones that are better than them. It's sheer jelousy. They will never become anything, and you already have become everything.

And that chick that said she hopes you overdose and die? I hope she goes to a party, does too much ecstacy, and over doses and dies.
(:

Your the best Trent, and dont let petty little fuckers mess with you. They oviously have no since of maturity, and thats why they will never become what you have.

I don't have your email address, but I wrote this on Facebook just after your Toronto Show June 2nd:

NIN 1989-2009
I've gotta say, I had to buy the shirt that said it, just to believe it. It's a sad yet respectable decision by Trent to put the breaks on NIN. A career centered around a man who seemed to really want to be in a band, always surrounded himself with an amazing band but was always the only one in control. To be in such a position requires something special. It's no secret that Reznor has had his share of ups and downs and fights with addiction. But not one man has had such an influence over his music career as Reznor has had himself. He decides to take 6 years between records, he decides to release music for free, he works hard and stays motivated to push his music beyond boundaries. This is most apparent with the release of "The Fragile" a 2 CD set of musical brilliance. Like "The Downward Spiral" the character of The Fragile is reinforced with meticulous sounds used to execute thoroughly thought out concepts. Although TDS was a concept top to bottom, the fragile is a concept composed of many different concepts. Trent has never settled for stock synth sounds or a conventional guitar based formula. You can't turn on a keyboard and say, "wow I heard that on the last NIN record" which makes his work all the more exciting. He constructs sounds and concepts like no one else.

Why do I admire Mr. Reznor so much? Well it's simple, when you're one man behind the operation, it's easy to lose focus, it's easy to give up, it's easy to say it's good enough. Trent has never done that. He does what he wants to do and does it right.

Recently I had the once in a lifetime chance to meet Trent and he proved himself more and more to be someone to look up to now-a-days. When I met him I was in a group of approx 30 people. He had offered this opportunity in exchange for a donation to help another human being, a guy who was dying of a heart condition and needed a transplant, but the facilities weren't available in the state he lived in. He needed $150,000 to be put on the waiting list and $600,000 for the transplant. When Trent met the fans, he looked everyone in the eye, said "Thank you very much for helping out", he was in a great mood and even though he had 300 people's hands to shake and autographs to sign before playing live he was happy to meet with fans. He also allowed us to view the soundcheck, now, not only did he play the soundcheck with the energy of a real show, he played songs that he didn't play in the show and gave it his all. It was truly a genuine moment from Trent where you could tell he was grateful to have such dedicated fans and wanted to give something back.

Overall I've been very impressed with Reznor from the day I first heard his music, and was so happy to have the opportunity to meet him. Although lyrically controversial at times, it's the drive in the music he creates that grabs my attention.

Dear Trent Reznor, thank you for your dedication to NIN and the music business. Please stay involved somehow. Don't forget about us fans! Thank you for exploring the digital realm of music distribution and opportunity.

Sincerely,
Colin

Trent,
I just wanted to say thank you for all that you have given to so many of us over the years. I was there at a small club in jersey back in the early 90's. I had a feeling it was the beginning of something special,I could never imagine how great it would actually become. Its a shame to see these people try to instill their negativity into a situation, that for so many people is a positive, enriching experience.I ask you to realize that their are far more people who stand with you, your future endeavors (whether musically or not), and realize that growth is part of life . I believe the true fans out here feel the same way.
Again, thank you from the bottom of my heart and congratulations on your engagement.

06/10/09 2:12 PM

the only good thing about all this story is the great response the community of this site is givin to trent... for once good vibes and appreciation messages are louder than the rest... hope trent will just leave this "virtual life" with a smile smiling smiley

06/11/09 11:03 AM

That is disgusting.
Why do people do that?
I really do not know.
Plus, that makes all of us look bad.

And btw, to cheer you up.

There were 2 peanuts walking down the street.
One was ASSAULTED!!!

damn!, why are Maria Levitsky's subject say porn?, what the hell is wrong with people?
i wonder if these people do it because they love reznor so much they turn nasty and bitter and write hate mail and then when theyre home alone they wrap themselves in cling wrap and put an apple in there mouth for sexual pleasure...or they put ropes on their junk and lift weights with them....but thats my theory

06/12/09 9:12 AM

I love a good crazy person, really makes me appreciate normality
