This woman tried to save her country, and here one person without health care gets the spot light. How fucked is that people?! Also, I'm really shocked this all came together in such a shoddy fashion. You are asking people to drop $1200 in non-refundable contributions without even providing details on which shows are even an option.

I'm glad at this point I didn't pull the trigger because the show near me isn't on the list of approved shows. sad smiley I feel for those who did as air/hotel on top of 1.2k might break some people. And another thing that has bothered me a bit. Yea, this sucks that someone might die, yet people do all the time. I don't have insurance because I can't afford it. I also don't have a sister who is a TV personality. Would you, Mr. Reznor help me or any of us no bodies, or would you be a prick and say too bad you should have had insurance?

Go bitch somewhere else, christ.

TR does so much for so many people-- he can't save the fucking world.

I second what a lot of people have already said in response to you, Mournival. I'm not going to waste time and space by reiterating it.

Who the fuck are you to demand someone else adopt your cause, or views? Trent chose to help this cause, for whatever reason, and that was his personal choice. Not yours. And certainly not yours to take a shit on [which you've effectively done, nice choice of words].
You asked someone to support your cause, and you did not get a response. Move on. You know nothing of his personal life, or his views, so you do not get the right to attack him and claim that he is only doing this because of "fame" - that, my friend, makes YOU the "prick".

brilliant post. thank you.

Thanks for adding I just want to help $10.00 option.

Great option for anyone who can not help out with the larger amounts and/or someone who lives in the city were the tour as already passed.

My dad has heart problems (couple of heart attacks and now uses a pacemaker)...so I know how stressful it can be to have loved ones live with a condition like this.

Great to see a band(s) and other help out in a way like this.

Please, let's not turn this into a political discussion. Trent can't do everything at all times, as much as some of us think he has certain qualities becoming of a deity.

The focus of this should be #1 on helping Eric, and the added bonus is to be able to meet Trent in a way that I don't think has ever been possible for most people. Those of you that have helped have done so for numerous reasons, but you HAVE helped in the goal to save someone's life.

Thank you so much for helping!

I'd dearly love to go the $1k+ route for a London show, but a 10% wage reduction as of last December has made a lot of things impossible for me, but not a $10 donation. It all helps, after all.

Great idea this, and all the best to those can can go the whole hog. What a way to wave goodbye.

I know you're upset that you can't do more to avenge the injustice in the above case of Suu Kyi. I guess in Trent's case he felt that this plight would be more "marketable".

I also feel that there are other, more pan-global issues to which humans, let alone the charity givers here, should respond. But that is the dilemms you are stuck with when you choose one cause. You invariably eliminate others. Conservationists have this problem. Do they spend limited resources saving the Panda, or other species which although far less well "loved" are far more vital to their respective ecosystems. Don't be angry.. At the end of the day we don't really know why Trent chose this issue or this individual, and it is easy to be critical.

...[I]n principal I may or may not take this opportunity, because I'm not sure it would feel right.

This issue has struck a moral chord with many people here and that's normal. It's a healthy sign that people have constructive debate and a moral conscience, and Trent and everybody else is just going to have to deal with that. However, maybe you could post a thread about Suu Kyi - Surely a worthy human being to emulate and learn from.

There are really excellent points in this kind and reasoned response.

I think Trent has the right to choose what/who he wants to help and support. You can very easily crete all of the hoopla you want about this situation, just as Trent chooses to support the Eric situation. There are problems all over the world. Some people support PETA, some people support MADD, some people support Eric and some people support Burma. I think it is very small of you to belittle anyone for trying to help out ANY good cause...even one that you don't care much about. Why don't you start up your own page, if you have not already, and get people to donate or help? How many other "famous" people have you approached? Perhaps one will find merit in your cause. Don't judge Trent because he did not. With all of the MILLIONS of tweets he gets...do you think there is a possiblity he might not have gotten/read yours? Please, do us all a favor and stop trying to defame a wonderful person with a wonderful plan to help someone.

To try to get this back on track.

For the $300 level you get to watch soundcheck for both NIN and SSSC.
Meet the Band. Handshakes, pics, autographs and a few minutes 1 on 1.
Dave came out and said "Hi" as well, which was cool.

On the -who got to stay- problem.
We got there early to secure our pit tickets and spots but had to wait until 4:00 for soundcheck. You have to pick up your tickets seperately.
So even after getting there early we couldn't get in the regular presale lineup.
We got to stay after soundcheck. I don't see the problem with that. There were maybe 15-20 of us. Still a lot of room left on the rail and just behind us. We couldn't be in both lines. So is it fair for the charity people to have to go to the back of the presale line?

FUCK the haters...you did something awesome for a great reason. You'll shoulda kicked those cunt biscuts in the face for even saying anything. You deserve the treats you got. All they deserved was a place in the seciton they paid for and for early admission. And also...squeezed between a soft body and a hard rail or squeezed in between two soft bodies...which is more comfotable anyway LOLZ.

If people want to debate against this wonderful idea of saving a life and absolutely amazing lifetime opportunity then I don't even know what they are doing here. Trent has done far more than any other artist for his fans, out of his own pocket. Either people should think about giving something for this just cause or back off coz it's fucking annoying to read the complete bullshit coming out of some of you.

Everyone can help in little ways if they want to, some people will sacrifice going without certain things for a while (to make bigger donations), others will be unable to do that but appreciate what is trying to be done and why, but for heavens sake give a good hearted man who is giving the chance to make dreams come true as well as trying to save a guys life a fucking break!

Most people are deeply moved at what is trying to be achieved here, anyone who is not misses the whole point and should really just get over whatever the hell their issues actually are and leave everyone else to discuss the important things.

Yeah, sorry about the distraction there.

As far as the rail is concerned, I understand both sides of the arguement. I was on the rail for 7 of the fragile shows and I can tell you that I would have been steaming after waiting all day in the hot sun only to have someone walk in a get a spot ahead of me. There is a BIG difference between being on the rail and being behind the person on the rail.

I have to be honest, I think the people who waited all day for the rail should still get first dibbs. The people with the $1000 VIP package have other options (side of stage/sound board) so there is no reason they should get priority. The $300 people with PIT tickets should be able to reserve thier place in line and return to it once soundcheck meet/greet is completed. (I would imagine it would be fairly simple to do if numbers were handed out)

That said, the people the that went all apeshit to TR about it, I agree with him in saying FUCK YOU. It baffles me that people are so selfish that they can't see that the world does not revolve around them.

If this is open to headlining international shows as well now, I am definitely going for the $300 option once some money transfers. I've had some decent health problems that have cost us a lot, so my heart goes out to this guy. Very worthy cause. Kudos to TR and everyone involved smiling smiley

So back on topic?

I'm actually planning to donate the $1200 and fly out to possibly NC or NY (prefered) with my girlfriend. Trent Reznor has been an influence for me musicaly for years so yeah a big part of me wants to meet him in person while I get the chance - but it's the support for helping Eric that is the major decision maker.

Just wanted to re-itterate the positives - great deed from a great musician - i think most of the users here realize the good in all this. It's the small percentage that get upset over any situation where they feel no control and lash out.

Just excited I can help!

05/22/09 6:12 PM

meet trenty for £190. damn right i would. too bad i can't :-( maybe if i buy a lottery ticket and win..... i could book flights over to america and.....

i wish i was rich.

never mind.. there is always my dreams.

wait... what? just kidding. hehe

Trent,

I am so glad I have the opportunity and funds to help out a person in need. I can relate to the hardships and crap that Eric and his family are going through. Like Eric, my son is suffering from a medical condition. Unfortunately, no amount of money will help save his life. There is no cure, no treatment, no hope. The only thing I can do is make his life a little more comfortable and hopefully a little happier. Well, this is where you and everyone else involved comes in. I bought a bunch of tickets for last year's shows and took my son around the country following you. I never saw a kid smile so much. But wait, it gets better. I bought a bunch of tickets for this year's shows and yep, we have been and will continue to follow you again. Now for the best part, you have given me an opportunity to make a wish come true (mine and my son)to meet you and the band. I can't express my full gratitude to you on how much this means to me. You are the closest thing to a miracle that we have seen. I have been a fan since the beginning and will continue to be one. And my son will be one to the end. I look foward to thanking you in person and hope all the best for Eric.

05/22/09 6:22 PM

Yes - back on topic. Donated my $1000 for Charlotte.

To Trent, SSSC, and all others involved in this wonderful opportunity:

Thank you so much for creating this experience for us. I've been wanting a "Meet and Greet" since 2000, and to do this at the last NIN|JA show in Charlotte is truly a treat for me. The donation to a great cause is a primary reason to do this, the rest of the package is just icing on the cake. You always think outside the box and continue to inspire me with ideas just like this. I know there were some kinks/bugs to be worked out, and am glad that you are responding to our feedback. There are only positive outcomes to be had. Once again, THANK YOU.

Hi everybody,

Long time lurker here. Just wanted to post my experience last night at Santa Barbara show with my $1000 donation.

First and foremost, Trent and his crew were the nicest people I've ever met. They talk to you go out of their way to make sure you're alright. I was almost expecting to be let backstage and then be forgotten but Trent and his crew were so gracious. I got to meet Trent, Justin and Ilan during the meet and greet. Trent later talked to the $1000 donators backstage while SSSC was playing and then after JA was finished. Dinner was so good too. I was lucky (unlucky?) to get that shirtless Dave Navarro sighting that Trent talked about as he walked past us before the concert.

Big props to Shari (spelling is probably wrong) who took care of our group last night. She works for Trent as one of his go to people. She was such a nice lady.

I wasn't able to take my wife so instead, for my guest, I picked a random dude out of crowd, Patrick from Kentucky, and made his dreams come true of meeting Trent.

I also got a huge man hug from Trent last night before I left. Make sure you get one of those if you meet him as it really does make you feel all fuzzy inside. winking smiley

Okay...another question, does the Bonnaroo donation include "bring a guest" option because my boyfriend is paying half of it? (please!)
Lol, you're probably tired of me questioning this. I'm sorry, but it's just so cool to incorporate a generous donation with an exciting meeting with such a talented band.

I will buy the $300 package and then you can pay me at the show when you get your VIP pass. So if you don't have the $300 now, it's ok. Just PM me. smiling smiley

I really want to do this with a true fan. If I can't find anyone here, I will just pick up whomever looks saddest on the day of the show (kind of what Craig did), and they can give me whatever they can from the ATM, if anything at all (I'm pretty poor, too, just not acting like it). Haha.

I am so glad that Trent did this. After Trent has to express to us on this message board why he's been cranky lately, he is able to turn around that negative aspect of his past few day, creating a wonderful chain of events. Due to the turn out of this grassroots money raising event for Eric, the NIN communitiy is helping someone in need and hopefully bringing attention to one of many issues with our healthcare system. Even with some negativity about what Trent is doing to raise money for Eric, this experience has to be instrumental in restoring some lost faith in humanity. I know I'm hugely impressed with the money raised so far. I think just about everyone wins with Trent's actions. I know I did any I only gave $10.00. Any losers are losers already. Ok, that last sentence wasn't nice of me, but I can't be all good.

PS. Mournival - I hope you don't live in the same Kirkland as I do because I don't like running in to angry neighbors.
