Yes, they should be more reasonable about it. Yes, they should pull their heads out of their asses and accept that luck is less valuable than...well, money, I guess. But I think they have the right to vent.

And this is where you fail to realize that people shouldn't complain about something that is ... FREE. No, you are NOT directly complaining about receiving anything—however in this situation or anything nin related—Trent can do whatever the hell he wants.

If you complain // stop paying attention.

What NIN is doing for Eric is exceptionally cool. How many other bands have offered a meeet and greet? 1.
I still don't understand all the complaining.

My wife won Twitter tix and passes, we had bought GA tix already so we promptly gave those away after she had won, hearing about Texas and the great luck they had in getting great seats / passes. than shortly after that the donations began. Knowing this we thought that donaters would get the priority of course so we weren't expecting to much out of the passes. After some discussion and waiting to get paid lol we decided to get passes (300 dollar package) however that same day they had sold out of the north american ones. Needless to say we were a bit disappointed but overall extremely happy about what we did get and I definitely can't complain with what we did receive, I think I'm really only disappointed that we gave away our GA tickets instead of using them ourselves, but we did get to go down with some great friends and have a great time.

Edit: Overall VERY HAPPY smiling smiley and couldn't complain with what we did get for FREE!

Well I was really excited about having the chance to meet everyone. I mean I am happy that I even get to go to a show. But Of course I am very disappointed now that my chance to meet the band was ruined by people who don't know how to stop bitching and just be happy about the chance of meeting the band.

Oh well...people suck.

I'll bet Diddy donated a couple grand with all the money he saved for winning tickets! LOL Or he at least rigged it to look like he donated... I bet he can do that.

The only question I have is in regards to something @heyericgrant said in one of his many rants... Is this really NIN's last tour?

Exactly. Twitter winners should be thankful they won the FREE opportunity to see NIN on their last tour.

Those who can afford the large donations ARE a priority. Period.

Seriously??? LAST tour???

Let me preface the following by saying 1) I did not win tickets, although I tried damn hard 2) You would have a hard time finding a bigger fan of Trent’s. There is NO ONE in the world I would rather meet.

I completely understand where Trent is coming from. Donating time and money to Eric without any type of personal gain is extremely honorable. This is nothing you would see from any other band (other than maybe Bono saving a rain forest).

However, it greatly saddens me that once again the Dollar prevails over all. Yes, this is for charity and a good cause, but $1,000 for one person is much more than another. Having daddys deep pockets to go into doesn’t work for everyone. Again, I know many many of the people who donated are just like me living paycheck to paycheck just trying to get by.

Let the flaming begin…

06/04/09 10:30 AM

People shouldn't be bitching anyways, at least you were nice enough to give them away at all Trent. And it's FREE so I don't see why they should even complain. I enjoyed the show, and I thank you deeply for it. And you don't need to apologize to assholes that think of themselves. You're an awesome person and fuck them if they don't like it.

06/04/09 10:31 AM

The people who donated did something great, especially in a time like this when money is tight. To donate to Eric is an amazing thing do and they should get first priority when it comes to the concert.

To the people that won on twitter, be grateful. You're still going to see NIN, for FREE, in a time where some fans cant go because they need the money or are losing homes & jobs.

Stop complaining, go to the concert and enjoy it.

Yeah, I agree with all that.

If they're for memorabilia's sake (the backstage passes, I mean), why not send 'em out to folks who donate like $50 or something? That way they get something awesome too, even donating a lower amount?

Just a thought. I mean yeah, they're just paper, and cheap to print up, but to a fan they're priceless!

~Jason

I like this idea.

06/04/09 10:34 AM

I think anyone who bitches from this point on is an ass but I have no problem with the people who were expecting backstage access and then didn't get it before Trent made this announcement. Free or not I'd be pissed to if I was expecting to be backstage as that was what was offered and then not getting it. More than pissed I'd just be very disappointed. And my first reaction would be to lash out. I'm sure Trent could have avoided this by posting it a couple of days sooner no?

And I like how he is covering himself legally by giving people a physical backstage pass like he promised.

I've been a nin fan since the early days and will always appreciate the music. But Trent's comments and overall attitude lately (not just referring to this) has severely ruined my perception of him and his band. He could just say "I'm sorry" for not being able to fulfill his arrangements. He doesn't have to use the sarcasm and be a dick back to people regardless of how immature they are towards him. And then he has to blame them for this policy change so that people get on their case? Same way he calls people out on twitter. He's no better than the bitchy fan boys who give him shit all day long as he is really just playing the same games they are.

I don't mean to sound like a dick myself but I just think this whole situation could have been handled better on both ends.

06/04/09 10:34 AM

Whiny bitches never cease to amaze me.

06/04/09 10:38 AM

There were no promises made for the Twitter winners.

The tweets always said "backstage passes"...and nothing else.

Shame on those who took it upon themselves to equate that to "you will meet the entire band".

And shame on those who did not read the entire Twitter Winners thread and take in ALL of the info provided from those who posted their experience.

And to Abomination...the passes are not "just paper"...they are cloth like.

I don't know about the rest of you, but donating money for backstage passes to help out Eric in reality for me would have been more like paying 1200 dollars to get to meet the band. It's not as completely honorable as everyone is making it out to be. It's not like donating money to Eric would have been the big motivator and meeting the band would have been some sort of special treat in addition. Quite the opposite, actually.

I would gladly pay 1200 bucks to meet NIN (if I had it) for a good cause or for my own gain.

That being said, the fans that did spend the money wether it was because they wanted to help Eric or because they'd gladly pay 1200 bucks to meet the band should take top priority. Because they forked out the cash, and probably most of them couldn't afford to and shouldn't have. And that is honorable.

06/04/09 10:39 AM

So, basically, Trent was giving out more backstage passes than he could?

LOL. Math fail.

06/04/09 10:40 AM

I think it's great that people are donating money to help save the live of a young man. These peeps most certainly deserve priory backstage.

However I can understand why 'heyericgrant' would be a bit upset. The feeling of disappointment is present in much of Trent's work so we should understand how the guy is feeling. Personally I think a quick 'hello' from the NIN band members would have been enough.

What's really hilarious is that Trent said he had no idea they would get such a huge response in donations! Come on, Trent! we <3 you TOO MUCH!!! You silly! grinning smiley

Trent,

While I can understand the fan's/fans' disappointment/frustration/anger about the twitter "prize" not being as described (ie: they were told, through no error in communication that their prize entailed 2x tix/backstage passes), I think what you're (read: the touring party) is doing for Eric is a wonderful thing.

While the statement you've just made does sound quite angry about it yourself, let's face it, the internet is where fans come to air gripes about anything. These guys can understandably feel that they were shortchanged on what they were offered, although they still had a great experience nontheless I'm sure.

What I just wanted to say is that by clarifying this, and changing the twitter tickets game as you have, I think you've completely done the right thing; still allowing fans tickets to shows as well as a cool souvenir, and focusing the spare time you guys do have (and I know firsthand just how limited time can be on a tour) on the people who were willing and able to support a cause you (once again, please read as: the tour party) believes in.

I would have been just as upset as @heyericgrant! I'd like to think I would have behaved more admirably, but I don't think so.... which is sad to say, but true. I don't think I would say anything mean or bad to Trent about it, cuz I understand why he has chosen the donators over the winners as priority, but I would probably still mope and whine a lot to anyone who would listen.

jerretwold:

Thank you.

i'm one of the fan's who wasn't able to donate in time as well...

BUT....

no worries at all. i'm still just thankful for trent/nin, the music he has made, the enjoyment it has given me & the impact it has had on my life.

trent, can't wait to see you from the pit at merriweather post!

thank you for everything you do!

Dude needs a heart, and these losers clearly aren't using theirs. Pitiful.

I can't believe people are giving Trent static on this. Like he really owes you anything, or even an explanation.

Way before all this twitter nonsense I lucked into backstage passes from JMJ for LITS over Sacramento. We went back, hung in the lounge, and luckily for us Robin, JMJ and Josh stopped by, and we got to say hello to Rob. Trent did not drop in. Was I disappointed? No, because I really didn't predefine my experience around meeting ANYONE there (especially for free) and I don't think Trent should base his existence around me or anybody else. It's his show. It was still the greatesst experience ever.

THERE ARE NEVER ANY GUARANTEES. These situations are fluid. If Trent doesn't want to hang, or has other priorities (far more important ones btw), so be it. Trent gives more than any other artist and people still want more. STFU already.

These guys won free tickets to the greatest show on earth. If they really want to fawn over Trent that much, I suggest going here: http://store.nin.com/helperic. Buy the fucking package. Make a contribution. Maybe it's time to give a bit back and contribute more than bullshit criticism.

Suck it, whiners.

06/04/09 10:47 AM

Sorry... that was Starsimon not Starismom. sorry!

06/04/09 10:49 AM

First off, as a person with congenital heart failure/issues I fully get the purpose of the charity and RESPECT Trent for helping out. I know how hard the red tape of healthcare, Medicare or any insurance can be and at this time.

Secondly, I can see both sides of this coin. There are people out there who won and got to meet them up until the passes were moved over for the charity drive. I think that the remaining pre-charity drive winners deserve the same thing the other winners got if not maybe altered like a quick signing before they got on their buses or a poster that is autographed. I understand and agree that the priority should be given to those who donated and if I would have won, yeah I would be bummed too but look at the grand scheme of things… you didn't pay anything but for a tank of gas, parking, food and beer (which if you were smart you tail gated prior to the show). It is your fucking fault if you flew from CA to MA to see the band. Yes I understand maybe there should have been this announcement earlier after the drive was proving to be a success but things like that fall through cracks when the man running it is also doing a tour. So yes I agree with Reznor in this whole thing.

The two things that make me the happiest is 1. The total support shown for someone whom we all never met and 2. the hope that this means Sean Combs (IAMDIDDY) got shut out too… unless he coughs up $1200 for each ticket and pass he won.

If Reznor were to allow his passes to be honored as they were won, then yes I think he should honor the rest that way too. However just by this charity drive alone he has proven his commitment to the cause and the donations.

Why anyone would bitch about anything you do is beyond me. NO ONE is better to the fans than NIN.... NO ONE! Last three albums for free, severely generous with backstage passes and soundcheck give aways... NO ONE IS BETTER TO THE FANS THAN NIN. I'd be glad if Trent waved at me, So stop ur bitching... putzholes.
