And why is everybody so obsessed with Trent sitting behind a piano??? He is not 80 yet, he still can ROCK. I don't mind if he does piano based stuff, but it seems that people is constantly talking about pianos because he is in his 40s, for Christ's sake Iggy Pop, Bowie or Lou Reed among many others have been rocking at much older ages, just remember that not everybody is like Gene Simmons. winking smiley

Check out the "non-entity" performance and the vids from Still on youtube.

It has NOTHING to do with Trent's age...it has to do with talent and beauty.

Oh the wait to hear new news is going to kill us all!

I really don't enjoy any NIN music with female voices, or any female imagery in the music that doesn't reflect me somehow. I like to mentally put myself in the music.
What about La Mer?

Yeah, I don't really like it. Not one of my favorites.

Well, that's what it is just different taste. I love all NIN music but I espeacially love the softer side. I love Trent on the piano. Some of his music could be done in 2 part and sound awesome. I know Robin hits those high notes. Why not a female? tongue sticking out smiley Have you heard 'A Warm Place with Stella Soleil'? BEAUTIFUL!
LOL Maybe Just Once! Never made the cut, really outdated now. The lyrics are bad ass though. Would make a great song if it were reintroduced to present time with an all new sound. grinning smiley I can't wait to hear what's up. TR could make a fart sound like heaven. LOL

Because everyone wants to get close to Trent, and feel intimate with him, and a piano experience would be emotionally intimate. It reminds me of a T.S. Eliot poem: "So intimate, this Chopin, that I think his soul should be resurrected only among friends, some two or three, who will not touch the bloom that is rubbed and questioned in the concert room." smiling smiley

My heart melts when he plays the piano.
He just looks and plays too damn good on the piano!
It's not at all about his age. I don't care how old he gets because he'll always be rockin' to me.
(You know it's going to be weird to hear all of this modern music on the oldies about 20 years from now.)

Well, I was very into Chopin at an early age. So, I also appreciate this piano music, the intimate feeling of it. But I really always want to hear Trent's voice and words, mostly.

Well, like I said, I just want to pretend when I listen to this music, the more romantic songs involving female imagery, that I can put myself into the song and fantasize. And if I hear a woman who doesn't sound like me, it just kind of ruins my enjoyment of it. That's just the way I am. I really like to imagine myself in music and literature. When I read a poem, for instance, I like to feel that I am the writer and strongly identify. It's kind of hard to explain.

I'm glad to hear that Reznor is going to make more music. Didnt he once say that he wanted to create music using a female on vocal like sade? So maybe this is his chance? I have no idea.

I know those performances and I wouldn't mind if he did piano-based stuff like I said, but I would also like that he wrote more rock or electronic stuff, not just him sitting behind a piano forever because he has to be "serious" and rock is "for young people". I doubt we'll ever hear songs like "Wish" again. The closest we may ever get is "Know What You Are". Which isn't a bad thing. As much as I like the older, angry Trent Reznor, I like how both him and his music has evolved over the years and we never get songs that similar.

I like his current music too, but what I meant is that he doesn't have to write quiet stuff from now because he is happy and getting older. He doesn't have to make the same music that he made 20 years ago again, but 20 years ago he also wrote songs like "SICNH" and today he makes a song like "LITS" and nobody thinks that he is repeating himself and remaking his old stuff just because he has written a piano-based song again 20 years later.

That is why I say that he still could make rock and electronic and hard songs, he doesn't have to write only quiet songs with a piano or an acoustic guitar. Metallica still make heavy songs and they are in their mid 40s too, sober and I guess that happily rich and nobody wants them to play "softer" songs (yeah, I know that Metallica and NIN are very different things, it was just an example smiling smiley).

I just want that Trent keeps making all kinds of music, not just quiet stuff to be cool for Pitchfork with a "bad copy of Radiohead" style like a lot of bands do these days. He still can kick ass and write a "superheavyelectronic" album and write a "Ghosts" relaxing album next, "happy" doesn't equal to "boring" (and I don't find his quiet stuff boring at all, I love "Ghosts", but I also want some kicking ass rock/electronic mindblowing stuff). I just wouldn't like very much to see him for the next 10 years playing music sitting in a chair, he can do that when he is in his 70s./Rant.

Too my surprise...

08/13/09 11:48 PM

I'm surprised it took about 4 years for "Not So Pretty Now" to get released...... Awesome song by the way, all the more reason to wonder why it was held back so long.

I think every era of Nine Inch Nails has it's qualities, that's why I would hate to be suggestive of a certain box where Trent is only allowed to play piano, or acoustic guitar because it fits a general age demographic and stereotype. That's stupid.

Personally I am confused about Trent's attitude towards metal since some of NIN's music uses elements similar to metal. I understand that NIN isn't a metal band, but I don't think he could honestly deny similarities in his heavier music. I guess my point is I hope he doesn't go out of his way to sound as far off from something heavy just because it could be mistaken as a metal song.

Trent has amazing skills with a piano.I mean it IS his MAIN instrument. He's been playing it since he was 5.So it would be great if he did an album with mostly slow piano/keyboard/synth type stuff like LA Mer,Warm Place,Ghosts 1,2,12,34.etc.I don't think anyone wants trent to give up making the aggressive, edgy type stuff. But an album with predominantly slow songs would be a nice change.

What the fuck are you talking about??!?? Now you are just making yourself look totally ignorant.

I never said that he should ONLY do piano performances "forever"

And a big fuck you if you think "rock is for young people" I'm not considering myself old but I am just as old as Trent and I love ALL his music...every single song...from SICNH to Wish. When I've gone to NIN shows, 3 in the last year, I was in the pit and sometimes on the rail. And I am sure there are people a lot older than me who enjoy everything from metal to classic rock.

Seriously, you should really think about what you are wanting to say when you are wanting to make a comment.

trent is the first one to realize he can't sing desperate and negative songs forever... so let's give the guy a break. whatever comes from him i think it'll still be pretty good... but i have to be honest: it'd be weird to see him perform live songs like mr self destruct at age 50 or 60...
