I like it, I've purchased it, but I'm not sure that it's not NIN with a female singer. I'm guessing this song may have been around for a while and was deemed not suitable to be released under the NIN moniker? Anybody have any knowledge of this? It will be interesting to watch the progress and changing of the bands output over time as stated by Trent.
Well, Trent didn't write the lyrics. So no, it's not an outtake

Well, we've no new material to work off of and the one song has been pretty much discussed from every angle. Now all we have left is how creepy we can get.

I'm not going to kiss ass... honestly, I loved the music immediately... but it took a few listens to love the song completely. My initial reaction was... "I really wonder what it would sound like to have Beth Gibbons of Portishead on vocals", but now that I've become used to the song, the vocals fit perfectly. I'm interested to see what's next.

I love the sound because its NINly. Trent's female side?

i love how to destroy angels, in my opinion everything that trent reznor is involved with is awesome

Word game maybe? I'll guess Buttercup for a thousand, Alex. grinning smiley

I went over to PITCHFORK, an listen to the 7min song, yes right away i knew TRENT, Q's vocal's good, but i could easely imagine TR singing the song, it's so him, the lyric's alone tell you it's a TR song, brillant. I'll get the ep on vinyl. winking smiley, when it's released. I just looked at a top post, an it's said TR didn't write the song, very surprised by that, it's so him.

i'd like to see Trent experiment with other genres... like Country and Folk. he could put a good industrial edge on them, i think...

anywho, as for this new photo, i'm having difficulty analyzing it for clues. i know Mariqueen has something to do with the smoking, but i don't get the messsage in this one...

mmmm...More than one smoker there! What is up with that cup?!

You know, working off the "Buttercup" above.. You could make either a Bambi reference or an Alice In Wonderland reference out of every picture posted so far. That's it! *facepalm* They are holding Trent hostage in Disneyland!

I'll go mingle and see what I can find out. grinning smiley

i wonder if it was spawned by people's talk of mariqueen's smoking youtube thingamickgiggy.

05/13/10 12:19 AM

Quite possibly! She seems like the sort who'd have a good sense of humor.

Like the picture...

We know Trent likes the music of David Bowie. Perhaps the next release is a cover of 'Ashes to ashes'

An ashtray with cigarette butts... not terribly impressed by that... I simply do not understand why people would willingly poison themselves with cigarettes. Not sure what this has to do with HTDA?

I liked your song. I appreciate its subtlety and its meaning, as I’m sure many people will. Mariqueen you have a silky sweet voice that softly floats along with the haunting melody.

To be able to swim (winking smiley) to the shore is all that matters…even if you have to do it by yourself. Sometimes encounters with strangers can nudge you in the right direction (no matter how unusual and unexpected those encounters may be).

Don’t know if you have ever seen the movie Babel. After listening to your song a few times, the scene where the young Japanese woman stands on her balcony naked, lost and her father finds her and wraps his arms around her – this scene suddenly popped into my head.

Your new collaboration is exciting and I wish you every success. I can’t wait for the next installment.

PS – TIM TAM – that’s my nickname for you three – slightly addictive sad smiley…but I like them smiling smiley. All good things in moderation, though. (Look up Arnotts if you don’t know what I am talking about – the Antipodeans will). They are a staple.

They're about to play a riveting game of Yahtzee.

I think the picture itself is pretty cool. No idea about its meaning or whatever.

The pictures, especially taken together, still remind me of some sort of horror or mystery story. It's as if the photographer is walking around a house which has been abandoned very suddenly and not very long ago, and where bad things appear to have happened.

Rolling Stone gave the new single 2.5 stars, yet I think I saw Britney Spears get a 3 or 3.5 star review for a new song.

Go figure.

Q just confirmed that she quit smoking last summer so those aren't her butts.

05/13/10 5:41 PM

ok, let's start again... there are three types of cigarettes in the ashtray, no ash, and only one coffee mug... Since there are no more than three of any one cigarette, that eliminates any of the smokers having been there for more than 1, maybe 1.5 hours. The white cigarette seems to have been curiously lit, and by the end of the brown one the smoker in question had definitely had enough because the stub is stamped down so hard (almost into submission) that the other stubbs would have been powerless to stop it. The cup comes from China, or at least is a Japanese imitation, yet coffee marks remain curiously absent. The ashtray itself assumes an air of quiet dignity and although laden with these gifts of gimmicky curiosity, combines with the set piece to describe an occasion that passed in a manner both sheepish and cruel. The lighting is subdued... yet cast on the scene like a dappled magnetic beam, leaving its glassy subject dwelling cautiously but with purpose in its own winnowy shadow. It is a scene of begotten silence, where frayed ends and dismembered fragments evoke pithy intentions left bare in the half light of intoxicating sadness...

...or maybe they're just fucking with us...

I think so too. I think I'm getting a bit tired of all this fucking around.
