HTDA, Coil, and Hellraiser/Clive Barker connection

"Clive Barker originally commissioned a soundtrack for Hellraiser from the industrial band Coil. The music they supplied was rejected, and Christopher Young provided a more traditional orchestral score for the finished movie. Coil's score, which was apparently described by Barker in a complimentary manner as being "bowel churning",[6] has been released in isolation as The Unreleased Themes For Hellraiser and as part of the compilation Unnatural History II (CD) (1995)." - wikipedia.org

I remember being a little girl and watching these movies. They terrified and enthralled me. I likened myself to the main character.

Anyway, thought this was an interesting bit of information, as I recall MTR thanking or mentioning Clive Barker in the liner notes of PHM.

Bowel churning is right.

Maybe explains why they are all lying on the floor in a pool of blood in that vid...

Trent thanks Clive Barker because he ripped the line "Stale incest, old sweat, and lies, lies, lies" off for Sin.

I've already heard that "answer" and it does not suffice.

I don't really see the connection - Onslaught is right about the liner notes

Well too fucking bad because that's why it's there.

That's like saying "I've heard Trent played the drums at the end of Piggy but that answer does not suffice."

If you don't like it when people correct you, don't use the site. You put forward a theory, Onslaught corrected you (without insult or mockery). Make assumptions and guesswork, that's what discussion is all about, but if someone says you've misunderstood something, don't just ignore them.

Thanks. I'll follow your advice.

Interesting fact...I never knew that, but I remember seeing Barker's name in there and wondering what his connection was
Where is this line from as a reference to Barker. (I thought it was stale inscent not incest..I may be wrong)

It's from the short story "In The Hills, The Cities". It's totally taken out of context though, in the book it's about Eastern European churches tongue sticking out smiley

Haha, whoops. That was a really bad typo.

Alright...I'm not going to beat a dead horse...

But as far as the comment goes, it's figurative, not literal or biological.

Yes, I know I'm crazy, you don't have to tell me.

Just saw where the band name came from:
posted:
"How to Destroy Angels" is also the name of Trent Reznor's post-Nine Inch Nails project, along with his wife Mariqueen Maandig, and Atticus Ross. Reznor has acknowledged that the earlier Coil release was the source of the band's name, and that he had run the idea by Peter Christopherson before using it.

Not that Wikipedia is always truthful, though...

Here's this interesting little tidbit:

I see Trent Reznor has borrowed the title of Coil’s first official release for the name of his new band, How To Destroy Angels. How did that come about and is it true you’re going to be doing something with them in the near future?

S: Always the perfect gentleman, Trent asked if I minded before going public and I told him I would be delighted. I am working on some things using his raw tracks but I don't know if he will ever want to use them because the music I am enjoying working on now sounds like what you might hear if you were coming out of a K-Hole in a Phnom Penh gay brothel where they were playing a very scratched copy of Coil's Time Machines album on vinyl, probably at the wrong speed!

Besides the Barker quote, there really isn't any direct connection between Trent's music and Coil's soundtrack to Hellraiser. Coil is simply an influence, you can definitely hear it in Trent's soundtrack work.
