I don't really know what he means by Mulholland test drive, but I can't wait for this.
according to an r/nin redditor...

"Likely he is referring to an end in his creative process whereby he drives Mulholland Dr with the new album as a soundtrack. This is a relatively long, scenic drive where he could test the feel of the album under conditions he believes would be apropos for ideal listening." - ConcreteLobotomy

... there are a couple other people that said roughly the same thing. pretty sweet if that information is true.

Quick! Let's all tailgate Trent down Mulholland so we can hear the album! tongue sticking out smiley

I predict that the release will be most likely after mid may, after his birthday. Clear Minded or...he's the kind of person who dont give a fuck about his birthdays and will release it anyways.

Still, we should have a cake baking contest for Trent. Winner gets advance copy. Sound good? We just need that advance copy.

SOOO looking forward to this. The next best thing to a NIN release in my opinion, even above Trent solo s/track stuff, which I, on the whole, have loved so far. Mainly because we may actually get to hear him sing on a song or two...no disrespect intended to Q, who's voice I like a lot too, and because these are more likely to be fully fledged 'songs' (with verses, choruses, bridges. Solo's anyone?) as opposed to 'pieces'.

Very interested to hear what direction they eventually found for the band. IYLSE is a very good start, but may be misleading by it's very nature. Time will tell, but I'm really looking forward to hearing the new stuf.

You and me both, if what I experienced during the score of TGWTDT is any indicator I will most definitely go crazy when new NIN gets announced.

Seriously, I think we got too spoiled by the last few albums. Done one day, posted online the next. This wait is seriously painful. I hope he never announces the NIN album (because that would be murder). I prefer the pleasant surprise.

i have a feeling that he will go completely dark on us after this htda is released. however horrible that sounds, the man deserves it. it seems like he has been going non-stop since TSN.

umm, it's 11 days now, should we send out the search party? Did he pull a "slip out the back, Jack."

It's probably just his new way of saying "2 weeks".

Maybe we'll get an announcement on Monday or sometime next week . . .

Well eventually I think it will. However, I find it suspicious that Trent has not even revealed a single teaser of what the sound is like.

Honestly, as much as I love Nine Inch Nails, I respect Trent's decision to shelve it for the time being. Of course we'd all love a new Nine Inch Nails record, but that's something I would apprehend more than anticipate.

Don't get me wrong, I was absolutely devastated when Trent announced the "Wave Goodbye", but then I took the time to hear him out, and it really made sense. Trent had such a solid, coherent, and comprehensive body of work and legacy with NIN... Now imagine if he f*cked it up, like Manson did with his last 3 stinkers. (Just my opinion)

Now it's time for something new. I like the HTDA EP, I like the new sober, collected Trent Reznor, and I'm glad he's not a half-dead shock rocker anymore.

The important thing to remember is that Trent WAS Nine Inch Nails, and with HTDA and these movie scores, a part of that still carries on, but with much more freedom and leeway to explore different styles. Plus, he has a much more comfortable working environment; working with his wife, who is a talented singer. I think they compliment each other well, which brings me to my last point...

I CAN'T FUCKING WAAAAIT FOR THIS RECORD!!!

new nin will come. it may take quite a while, but i have a feeling trent doesnt want end nin on the slip. he has learned a lot and become such a better musician since the slip. tsn was fantastic, the htda ep was great, and i thought he did an amazing job on tgwtdt (fuck me, i spent $300 on the vinyl). i honestly cannot wait for him to take all that he has learned in these past couple of years, and put it into a nin album... sends shivers down my spin just thinking about it

05/04/12 9:06 AM

Maybe something will happen after the 300 deluxe editions of TGWTDT are sold…

05/04/12 5:01 PM

One can speculate....I know, but I somehow think this HTDA album coming might just be a cover album.

Er, based on what? We know it's full of original music, due to tweets and posts over the last couple of years, and even features musical contributions by other artists (The Bug for sure, and possibly Alessandro Cortini). Doing a cover requested by David Fincher for a film isn't a sign of the album's content imo.

I may be missing something, how do you know that?

05/05/12 9:05 PM

Because The Bug has tweeted a few times about the fact he's done beats for them (here).

And Ally because HTDA posted a picture of one of Ally's synths several months back, although they might've just been borrowing it.

05/05/12 10:31 PM

Oh I see, thanks pal.

05/06/12 2:03 AM

Did Fincher request that cover, or was it TR'S choice?

I'm just throwing it out there and I'm basing this idea on the cover of Bryan Ferry. I did not now about Bug's involvement. I noticed their tweet was Nov. 11 last year about finishing a track for HTDA. That was a while back eh? Of course there is a gelling factor to consider.

Both covers (Immigrant Song and IYLSE?) were Fincher's request. He likes a lot of control over what goes into his films.

05/06/12 10:29 PM

what if it's laying in the ditch on the side of mulholland because it failed the test drive.
then what?

Ya don't say???

+1 Reznor, -1 Fincher. I was under the impression TR chose both songs, and not happy about it(Immigrant Song specifically).

I'm disappointed the deluxe albums started arriving without any supplemental HTDA stuff. A bit worried too.

05/07/12 1:51 PM

Trent and Atticus thought the idea of Immigrant Song with Karen O was really weird, but went through with it and were happy with the final result. Mariqueen seemed fairly pleased with getting to do IYLSE? though.

And the deluxe had no reason nor promise to come with HTDA, and would've been a real kick in the face to HTDA fans if it had imo.
