And you are entitled to your opinion...but you have to accept all research and studies, especially newer ones, and not only those that fit your own beliefs.

They say life is what you make it...

They say only you can control your attitude...

They say perception is reality...

Consider every obstacle a chance to overcome, every challenge an oppurtunity to prove how fucking great you are...

The fact that everyone you know will die is more reason to love them...

The fact that you will die is more reason to grab life, live it and love it to the best of your abilities...

"Every man dies, but not every man really lives" -Braveheart

The choice is yours how you want to live...

What about people who have horrible disabilities or hardships or who have suffered trauma? Does this apply to them as well?

Yes, because I have (or had) all of those. I guess you didn't read my last post. Those are not reasons...just excuses. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
I did read your last post. I'm talking about people who lived in Nazi death camps, have ALS, etc.
Theres a book called Man's Search for Meaning which would nicely respond to the death camps. I personally live in a lot of suffering. I do however know that if I were to put a lor of effort into things, I would at least have more to be happy about. I have depression and have lived in a low place my whole life. Drugs can shut out the world at first. Even they cant keep out reality forever. I think the answer to this varies from person to person, and also during different times of their life.

Human beings were not meant to be happy by nature. Our brains are just too complex and fucked up.

Any happiness we want, we have to go find or make for ourselves.
thats not true our brains want feel good chemicals. our minds want to be enlightened.

Perhaps "brains" wasn't the correct choice of words, but rather our consciousness. It is true that we do possess chemicals that reward us and make us happy, and if we were animals and couldn't think, that would be enough. However, our minds always steer us away from such simple happiness. We doubt ourselves, we judge each other, we crave conflict and drama. So, while we do have those chemicals, unless we go out and do something to get those juices flowing, we'll just be miserable. We've moved beyond the point where we will trigger those chemicals often in our day to day activities, as we no longer limit our daily activities exclusively to running, hunting, eating, playing and fucking.

Now, I don't think human happiness is as simple as the above activities, but do you see what I'm getting at? The more advanced we become, the more we actually get in our own way. We're literally evolving away from happiness.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough in my original post. Sure, we have to make lemons out of lemonade, etc. The original premise, however, is that life, at its core, is fundamentally sad. The fact that you will lose everyone and then slip into an eternity of emptiness makes it so.

I agree that the concept of our existence is fundamentally sad, but that doesn't mean our experience has to be. I think it's important to make the distinction between the two.

Good point.

Though arguably there's a flipside to "life at its core is fundamentally sad" and that's "life is a gift". The alternative is the universe was never even created. You can say "we live and then die and that sucks" or you can say "there was an overwhelmingly high probability we would never have lived at all, and yet here we are, and that's rather awesome"
