That sounds great on paper, but if we do all of those things to the nth degree then we all collapse together, as at somepoint our population and resource needs become unsustainable. As far as solar flares and Mayan calendars, I think what will happen is a lot of people will be entertained and will have something to talk about. I don't know if this site has been mentioned before, but I used to check up on http://www.diagnosis2012.co.uk/ all the time, and I highly reccommend taking a look through it.
