Some dyes are potentially toxic? I suppose so, but that's a very rare occurrence. Some children (and adults) may have allergic reactions to dye, but that's why it's important to do the spot test recommended on the package before you use the hair dye.

I disagree that dyeing a child's hair is an irresponsible action by a parent. There are plenty of at-home dyes made from organic material such as henna. Salon stylists don't generally use dye that could potentially harm clients, either. Letting a child experiment with his or her own style is not irresponsible. It's allowing your child the freedom to develop their own individuality, which I think is admirable rather than irresponsible.

I´ve seen kids with dyed blond hair, which is always obviuos.

Probably the parents are frustrated because their child isn´t blond.

That´s just plain ugly.

I met this german guy who dyed his eleven year old daughter´s hair brown because he was going on a trip to South America with the child and he didn´t want her to "stand out". Like people in southern countries can´t be blond or have never seen a european in their life.

I´ve said it before, I don´t like people.

But if the kids are doing it as a game and the dyes are safe and washable, its perfectly acceptable.

Ummmm....no they are not if you use them for their intended use, if I was to squirt dye in my kids eye or make them eat it....it would be toxic. I am also a nurse, so I don't think I would be doing anything that would harm my kids, the only major side effect of the dye is dry hair. But, you are entitled to your opinion, even if you don't know what you are talking about....have a great day.
