You mean the end? Yeah, I think the idea was to make it sound exactly the opposite of the rest of the song. And of course, when Trent actually writes a softer song, it doesn't sound anything like the end of MOTP
Actually, doesnt he work with one on I Do Not Want This as well? that jazz progression overtop the industrial drums gives it a more subdued, or defeated, aggression, rather than outright killing it. Think how We Suck Young Blood sounds distressingly dead and aggressive.
Yes you're right. I should have qualified my statements regarding jazz by saying "traditional jazz" or whatever. There comes a point where a lead can both be considered atonal AND jazz and yes, Trent is happy to use those kinds of leads in his music.
So to clarify, you might hear something like atonal (or accidental-filled) leads in his music, but you'd be hard-pressed to find something in his music filled with 13th chords or melodies played where the key is always set to play one type of chord (e.g., making every key play minor 7th chords and then playing melodies with this setup).
