Many albums have intros, I think it adds to the feeling that they're not just a collection of songs, but a group, a relationship of songs that all have some sort of relation, either by similar sounds or lyrics, or in this case, a concept. But if that's your least favourite song anyway I guess it doesn't matter.
I like WorzelG's reason for liking AVOTT; it's position in the album amplifies the atmosphere it makes, the dead silence after the storm.
About Ghosts: If we have an mini-election for each volume I guess there'd be less bias-voting, although I doubt there'll be a stand-out favourite; it's not really what I'd call an album, with no names, no lyrics. I guess it's more like a piece of art, not that albums aren't already, but Ghosts is more like contemporary art, less 'paint this person perfectly' or 'build this perfectly', more abstract and surreal.
