I was planning on taking some time off after the continual waves of touring that ended last fall and spend this year experimenting around with what would become How To Destroy Angels and some new NIN. Well, that plan didn't work out so well. David Fincher started inquiring about my interest in scoring his upcoming film, The Social Network. Yeah, the movie about the founding of Facebook. I've always loved David's work but quite honestly I wondered what would draw him to tell that story. When I actually read the script and realized what he was up to, I said goodbye to that free time I had planned. Atticus Ross and I have been on a creative roll so I asked him if he wanted to work on this with me and we signed on.

Months later, I'm happy to tell you we're nearing the completion of this and I couldn't be happier with how it's turned out. The level of excellence that David operates on is inspiring and the entire process has been challenging and truly enjoyable.

As Atticus and I near the end of the scoring process, we're looking forward to the next phase - distilling the large amount of music we've written for this down to a satisfying record (or two). The film opens Oct 1 in the US with the record likely available a couple of weeks ahead of that.

Speaking of the film... it's really fucking good. And dark!

The trailer look's interesting. I think will have to check it out and i'll take trent's word for it. If he and Atticus did the soundtrack that can only make it better. WOW it seem's like you never get a rest Mr Reznor. I hope that you get some soon.

Fucking hells yeah, dude. This is going to be awesome. First of all, Trent is one of the best creative minds in music so this score and soundtrack will no doubt be good. Plus, I enjoy dark movies so I can't wait to see this interesting idea from David Fincher. Secondly, even though I was heartbroken about no more NIN tours, I respect and appreciate Trent's reasons for stepping back to not wanting to "go through the motions". I wish a lot more artist would step back instead of putting shitty music out just to make money.

Looks good. Googled the title and can't seem to find more info.

The movie really does sound excellent. Not only because of Trent's input, but also I'm an avid Facebook user and I have lots of respect for David as a film director.

Hoping to get more info about the soundtrack soon.

Trent just tweeted about it:

Trent posted:
Atticus Ross and I are finishing the score for David Fincher's The Social Network. Details here: [www.nin.com]

Therefore, it's now on the NIN homepage.

Edit: spelling. Yes, it's just one word, but fuck off. It's a made up word... BY WILL FERRELL OF ALL PEOPLE, FOR CHRIST'S SAKE.

This is such cool news. Yesturday I watched the trailer for it and I thought Hmm I like Jessie Eisenberg this looks interesting. Then I found out David Fincher is Directing it and that Trent is doing the score! Very excited.. I hope a full length trailer comes out soon.

I really liked Jessie Eisenberg in Zombieland and am looking forward to the movie for all of the reasons posted by others!

i so beat you to the post guilty. now give me your job! jk

This made me smile. A lot. I love Fincher's work anyway (falling in love with Seven when I was about 13 started me off!) and was interested in the movie anyway. Now that Trent and Atticus are involved and also the fact that Trent has greenlighted it makes me want to see it. This is going to be something special.

Thank you for doing so much hardwork. The fact that you'd both sacrifice you're plans at the minute and breaks and whatnot for this shows just how much you guys love doing things like this. You all rule!

07/02/10 1:43 AM

This is the best part:

As Atticus and I near the end of the scoring process, we're looking forward to the next phase - distilling the large amount of music we've written for this down to a satisfying record (or two). The film opens Oct 1 in the US with the record likely available a couple of weeks ahead of that.

Excellent!

Ghosts continued, finally!

07/02/10 2:46 AM

This is really interesting. ^^ And unexpected too. The whole thing sounds weird, but that makes it so interesting. ^^

Looking forward to it.

jesus fuck. take a fucking sleeping tablet trent & atticus! have you slept since announcing your hiatus? even for an hour?!! tongue sticking out smiley

i fucking hate facebook with a passion, but a movie about corporate cunts, directed by fincher & scored by atticus & trent can only be an intriguing proposition...

07/02/10 8:31 AM

The music in the preview sounds great!

07/02/10 12:38 PM

This is fantastic news! I was curious about this movie anyway, now I'm really looking forward to see it.

07/02/10 1:59 PM

I can see this being really interesting. I imagine it'll be kind of a People Vs Larry Flynt thing, only about Facebook.

07/02/10 2:31 PM

I fucking hate Jessie Eisenberg with a passion, however, everything else about this movie has me counting down the days until October 1st.

07/02/10 3:18 PM

... awesome news. congrats trent and atticus. you guys deserve this. it's great to keep seeing new things come up from ya'll. i'm excited to see the movie and hear the soundtrack.

07/02/10 3:23 PM

I'm just excited that Trent is making more music. Couldn't give a fuck about the movie.

07/02/10 3:39 PM

Trent, you sound about as busy as I am. Always doing something. Love that about you. I'll be there opening day to hear watch the movie.

Agreed about Eisenberg, thrasherscolin.

07/02/10 3:41 PM

Really good, and DARK!!! YES!!! XD

Of course, I would have probably checked it out anyways knowing you dropped everything to work on it. But it sounds badass Trent, thanks for the info. I'm sure it will be great!

That's cool Atticus wanted to work on it with you too. I mean, I'm guessing you guys are doing everything together, but still, cool.
