What i said might have sounded narrow-minded and yeah, of course trent is free to do whatever he wants but IN MY OPINION, he's going soft.

The only thing that bugs me a little bit is the fact that this movie is about Facebook. Zuckerberg doesn't strike me as a NIN fan. I could be wrong. But how honored would you be if Trent scored a movie about your life and your company? I've been listening to NIN since 1991. Nails music was the score to my life from 12 years old to now in my early thirties. And it just so happens my partner and I are building a social network to take on Facebook head to head. So am I jealous, hell yeah! Zuckerberg doesn't deserve the genius of Fincher and Reznor, mostly because he doesn't even appreciate it and has said he wished the film wasn't made.

Yeah but don't worry, I don't think Zuckerburg will be profiting from the film surely?

I actually love that choral version of Creep, it made me get out Pablo Honey and listen to it again, although I'd kind of dismissed that album.

Usually with soundtracks, you have the part that is the score to the film, and you have the soundtrack that contains songs by various bands that are in the film to 'evoke' the time so could that be what Trent means by 2 soundtracks?

07/19/10 6:49 PM

Just watched the trailer. I found the chorus doing Creep interesting, but not really what I was expecting. When I heard TR was working on a new soundtrack I was expecting something like the Quake soundtrack. Think there will by anything in the movie with the classic NIN sound?

Don't get me wrong, I think the movie seems interesting. But Trent pushed it from a "wait until it's on cable" movie to a "see it in the theater" movie.

I understand what you mean, but i was a little surprised that he would be associated with a movie about a social network at all, then when i heard that Timberlake was in it, that surprised me even more. Plus to top it all off: a fucking Radio-head song in the soundtrack! A cover song, but still a song by Radio-head. (Another thing that i thought Trent despised)
I'm surprised and dissapointed in him. Plus, he's also doing a full album of HDA songs instead of releasing some new NIN first. (another thing that really pissed me off)

I think that answers if Trent despises Radiohead: NOPE!!!

I said it in the "TV and Movies" thread that Timberlake is too distracting: yeah, "Dick In The Box" really shows his range as an actor. PFFFTTTT! Gimme a break...

I don't care if Reznor despises Radiohead or not, i stated my opinion and that's all i'm saying.

Amazing! Someone dared to speak his mind.
Hello liam_judge...

07/21/10 3:39 PM

I have to admit that I am disappointed in Trent's choices also; and do not know what bothers me most- Trent's new concept of music in "How to Destroy Angels," or this... Sorry Trent, but this is how I truly feel; HOWEVER, you were once one kick-ass artist! OH yea.
Still love ya...xx

07/22/10 4:48 AM

^^ Yes, things certainly have changed over the last year or so, and I don't think it's for the better. Sorry.

07/22/10 6:25 AM

Man, you people must be great at parties. I thought Nails fans were all about being open minded and shit, yet the movie hasn't even come out nor a full length How to Destroy Angels has been released. I hate the Internet.

Did you just criticise 'people' & 'NIN fans' for not being opened minded with a generalization? You did didnt you?

Uh, not even close. I was clearly talking about all these negative malcontents who disapprove of everything Reznor has done in the past year.

but, that's your fault ..not his...that you find him distracting because you see him as the singer and not an actor.

and yes, he's shown great acting skills working on SNL...
i've seen him 3 times as the host and he's more fluent and comfortable in his own skin than the SNL cast members.

so, pffffttt.

Nope Mark isn't getting any money from this film. He doesn't even seem to happy it is being made either..I think it is funny that they can't even promote this movie on facebook!

07/22/10 10:05 AM

... the trailer for this film leaves me uninterested. i believe that good films are all about good, memorable characters, and good, memorable characters can only exist with good, memorable performances. in short, there are no actors in this movie. it's not like Zodiac where the great acting made it such a great movie. eh, at any rate, that's just my initial reaction. maybe there are some good performances in the movie. but it doesn't seem like there are any top-shelf actors in it. hopefully other elements of the movie will make up for that - if that's even necessary. ... however, i believe it is a great thing for Mr. Reznor to score this film, directed by the very successful David Fincher. it's a great start, and maybe one day Trent will be a very sought-after composer for film. i think any real, die-hard NIN fan has dreamed of hearing his music in films. it's a good combo. ... i guess, in short, i'm happy for his transition, but, geez ... this movie honestly seems pretty stale.

"Trent's new concept of music"? Wow. That doesn't sound smug at all! [/sarcasm]

Seriously, Trent probably has a better idea of what music IS than anyone of us here. I mean, he is after all the MUSICIAN and we"re just fans. Not to say we should worship the earth beneath him or anything, but it's kind of funny how people turn on him suddenly when he takes on projects that THEY don't like.

I'm quite interested in how Trent's relationship with TV / film studios pans out given how vocal he has been in respect of the music industry. It strikes me that the world of TV / films would be WAY more cut throat than the music recording one

looking forward to this it has felt like a movie about facebook has been brewing for a while

WoW this sounds amazing!~It's quite a shock~ to me that Mr Reznor would want to have any thing to do with David Fincher or any of hes work, but its a crazy world out there and I believe that both of them could have something in-common, this movie might be quite interesting.// "AND Really good, and DARK!!! YES!!!" lmao. I Can't wait till the movie finally comes out in OCTOBER !!!!!

Fincher's Seven Opening [www.youtube.com]

NIN's Only directed by Fincher [www.youtube.com]

I was just about to say... What's this hate toward Fincher? Weird... This movie has got me so interested because he is the brains behind it. Not only is the whole facebook plot interesting, but add in music from Atticus and Trent? And I am not ashamed to say that Justin has got 'it'. Not a fan of the music but I can appreciate how far he has come from the whole NSync thing. The dude has talent and should launch a pretty good acting career me thinks.

sounds fantastic, glad to hear that it's dark. and fucking good.

Well I am open to whatever else Trent does musically. I believe the has the potential to be a great musical composer. DO YOU hear ME Trent?
I hope you do...

there's a message here, friend...

umm.....Fail

... alright, so lacklustre has two spellings - i do prefer mine though. it was petty and silly of me to correct spelling like i'm some kind of a school teacher. however ... you are still a fool, angrychrist. i will explain.

ghosts is not a movie. there is no script, no story behind ghosts. the social connection is a movie, has a story, a script, which is what trent and atticus started with when they began the scoring. ... do you know what a score is?

... in short, you got me, man. i am, also, definitely a fool. but your post was still stupid - as ghosts and the social connection are like a bird and a fish, two different species.

07/23/10 3:39 PM

network, social network - not connection. ooof. but, speaking of ghosts there, i will bet that that will be the "new NIN in 2010"

... trent's doin' his thang, baby!

... and he do it, too. (ooof)

07/25/10 12:29 AM

Why the plan for HDA and new NIN "didn't work out so well"?? What happened??

07/25/10 6:47 AM

Its a figure of speech. New NIN will be coming, but TR just decided to work on the score for this first.

07/25/10 7:38 AM

Christ you people are picky.

"Movie looks cool, but LOLWTFRADIOHEAD?"
"Trent made this movie interesting, even though I'm ignoring the fact that David (the director) has a damn good track record."
"Trent's gone soft! Waah, more NIN!"

shut

^THIS^. All true. THANK YOU for stating how I feel as well, BRoswell.

This thread is getting strange, very quick. I honestly didn't expect to see what I see here, but I'm also not completely surprised either. A movie like this is going to be out of the shell for ANYONE involved, and the fact that its our favorite frontman, I can see WHY some people think he's 'going soft' or 'once a kick-ass artist', but how does that affect the movie, or him as an individual artist anyways? I still think he's a kick ass artist. And, to put it plainly, I saw a preview for the movie; it doesn't look half as bad as everything I have been hearing from people, or from the forums, but I wouldn't care anyways. Either I'll check it out because it interests me or I won't because it doesn't. If my favorite artist did the soundtrack and supports it, then fuck yeah it'll affect my initial outlook on it, but you guys are judging this movie so harshly and it's not even out yet. In fact scratch that, many people in here are judging THE IDEA of the movie and the soundtrack. But it hasn't released?

Really, the level of open-mindedness and the sheer ignorance these days just baffles and confuses me.

Those who know me realize it; however, I still maintain my views just as you should - or not.
