General Questions
Is Trent gay? What kind of car does he drive? Where does he live? (Personal questions in general)
Here's why Trent doesn't discuss his personal life (and why you shouldn't, either), via an interview at Imhotep:

“I don’t really want my fans to see me. What I’ve tried to do in the media is not to let my personality get in the way of the music. In a way, that creates its own aura. Today with the Internet and MTV it is easy to reach out and overexpose yourself to people, and I don’t mean like I was embarrassed about myself, but when you listen to a Nine Inch Nails record, I don’t want you to know what I look like, I want you to create your own version about the record. It is like reading a book, when you read it you’d like to know more about it and you do the casting yourself. Like now I wouldn’t wanna see Madonna naked – maybe it would be a different thing in my room right now, but I don’t need to see her. I don’t want you to know where I live or what I do, I kinda want you to want to know more. Like reading a book, you create the set and do the casting, and when you see the movie you think that I didn’t imagine it anyway similar, like in my head that spaceship looked a lot cooler. Like Tool, you don’t know anything about these guys, and it creates mystique that makes them cool.”

What's the meaning behind the name "Nine Inch Nails?"
This is another one best explained by Trent:

"I don't know if you've ever tried to think of band names, but usually you think you have a great one and you look at it the next day and it's stupid. I had about 200 of those. nine inch nails lasted the two-week test, looked great in print, and could be abbreviated easily. It really doesn't have any literal meaning. It seemed kind of frightening. [In his best he-man voice] Tough and manly! It's a curse trying to come up with band names."

What the hell does "Halo" mean? What's a "Seed?" What's the difference between them?

Is it true that Trent's doing the score for a musical version of Fight Club?

Songs
What album is "Now I'm Nothing" on?
"Now I'm Nothing" has never been released on any album and was performed live on NIN's tours in 1990 and 1991. Recently it's been revived as an opening song on some of NIN's dates. You won't find any sort of studio version of the song but several live versions are out there, including on the aforementioned Closure DVD's bonus footage.

What are the samples at the beginning of "Get Down, Make Love?"
The samples came from an old cable access show called Video Psychotherapy and also from a Japanese pornographic film. Both of these samples were added to the song by Ministry frontman Al Jourgensen.

What is that in the middle of "Sanctified?"
What you're hearing in the middle of the song is an audio sample from the Oliver Stone film Midnight Express:

Dear Mom and Dad, this is the hardest letter I've ever had to write. I'd hoped somehow to get out of this quickly so that you'd never have to know about it, but that just isn't possible now. I don't know what's going to happen, but what can I say to you? Will 'I'm sorry' make a difference? Will it ease the pain? The shame you must be feeling? Forgive me. Please."

What is said at the beginning of "Physical (You're So)?"
Trent whispers, "Eat your heart out, Steve" at the beginning of the song. It's widely believed to be a jab at TVT Records CEO Steve Gottlieb.

What is that at the beginning of "Mr. Self Destruct?"
It's an audio sample from George Lucas' film THX-1138 involving a civilian being beaten by a robotic police officer.

Where did the spoken samples in "Heresy (version)" come from?
The samples are from the documentaries Religion In Suburbia and Television Believers. Rev. Peter Popoff is the person reciting the sermon heard in this remix.

What am I hearing at 3:57 in "The Wretched?"
That is radio interference that somehow got into the recording. Trent thought it sounded really cool and decided to keep it. You can hear it more prominently in "The Wretched (version)" on Things Falling Apart.

So what are the "CRC Sessions?"
During the Fragility 2.0 Tour in 2000, NIN played a private show at the Chicago recording Company before a crowd of 100 people. Many believe that this show was the inspiration for 2002's Still EP. You can easily find it on various torrent sites.

Will Closure ever be released on DVD?
Initially set for release in the fall of 2004, the Closure DVD had been caught in legal red tape due to Trent's lawsuit against his former manager. Even though Trent won the suit in 2005, the DVD has yet to be commercially released. However, it was leaked to a torrent site in December of 2006, and many believe that Trent himself was behind it.

Why was the "Every Day Is Exactly The Same" video never released?
Rumor has it that Trent didn't like how he looked in the video. Something about he looked too old. Whatever the reason is, it's unlikely that it will surface in the near future.

Was there ever a plan to do a video for "Piggy?"
Apparently there were plans for a video but since Trent couldn't find a treatment idea he liked, it was scrapped.

I heard something about a second "March of the Pigs" video. What can you tell me about it?
Before the one-shot performance video we all know, there was a more conceptual video idea, also directed by Peter Christopherson. This idea was ultimately scrapped sometime during post-production. Raw footage from this earlier concept can be seen in the bonus footage on the Closure DVD.

Why was "Starfuckers, Inc." changed to "Starsuckers, Inc.?"
Trent didn't want it to sound like a rap video with its heavy lyrical censoring. In addition, lyrics in the interlude were changed for the video due in part to copyright concerns.

How much of "Happiness In Slavery" is real?
Bob Flanagan (1952–1996) was a masichistic performance artist who is featured in this video. Most of what you see in the video is theatrics and visual effects, but all the poking, pulling, clamping, and squeezing was real. And what he endured in this video shoot was tame compared to some of the harm he inflicted on himself during the course of his short life.

Here's an excellent page with lots of behind-the-scenes info on the video and other technical information:

I just saw the Broken Movie. OH MY GOD!!! Please tell me that isn't real!!!
The Broken Movie was directed by Peter Christopherson and was intended to tie all the videos from the Broken EP together. It shows a young man being forced to watch NIN videos while being brutally tortured by a masked madman. Don't worry, it's all theatrics, so none of it is real. It was meant to look like some sort of snuff film, and apparently it looked too much like a snuff film. Since Trent didn't want to have to explain it to the press, he and Christopherson had copies made for their friends with an edit made to each one so they would know who leaked it (if it happened).

Around the same time the Closure DVD leaked, the Broken Movie was leaked to a torrent site. This one was completely intact and was not missing any audio or video anywhere. As with the Closure leak, Trent is widely believed to be behind this one.

Why isn't there a complete "Sin" video on any NIN release?
Apparently, TVT messed up somewhere in post-production. However, it had reportedly been sent to several clubs in the early 1990s. A complete version of the video can also be found on some file-sharing sites and video-hosting sites.

I have an Argentinian copy of Pretty Hate Machine and there's a typo listing Trent Reznor as "Trent Rezbor." Does this mean I have a rare copy?
No. It's been seen on quite a few copies of the Argentinian edition of Pretty Hate Machine. It's unclear if the typo is on all copies, however.
