09/21/10 8:47 AM

well ithink it will be good

I’m loving this score: I had been waiting for something like this ever since I heard Atticus's score for Book Of Eli which I loved. However I know there are a lot of trolls out there right now who want to come on and bash this. I know your out there thinking BLAH BLAH BLAH Trent just wants some Hollywood cash... blah blah blah I could make this with a tuba in my basement and it would be better. Blah blah blah I'm butt hurt over the fact Trent didn’t use my favorite riff from my favorite album wich he should make all his music sound like just for me ect. I want to see you people post here. Really I do. I think we need a good counterpoint to all the positive posts. And I really really REALLY want to see Trent bitch slap your ass with his response. However, first we need you to post here. So get to it trolls I need a good laugh! And nothing makes me laugh like Trent’s troll ownage!

I didn't think I was going to like it at first, judging by Hand Covers Bruise. "Pieces", "Eventually", and "March" are actually pretty decent. "Gentle Hum" and "Soft Trees" are okay, but they're not really something I would listen to on a regular basis. Judging by the sampler EP, this is going to sound a lot like Ghosts. Much better than HTDA.

I still like Ghosts a little better. It's got a lot more variety. This is pretty much straight-forward ambient.

I agree with this, but only if you tell me to look at this as an album, and not a soundtrack. Soundtrack music can be incredible, but it's really only there to add depth the film. It also needs to do this without being too intrusive, which I feel is a delicate balance when you're talking about soundtracks that are primarily electronic. So if the pieces are a little ambient and understated, that makes a lot of sense to me and I don't really mind it.

I think I'm going to have to go see TSN and hear the music in context before I can really make a decision, though.

Come on now, this isn't the troll subject thread.

What trolls are you people talking about? I don't see any.

The only previous release by TR you can compare this to is Quake Soundtrack. Because this is meant to be background music, it is not written for listening, but for being.

As my old film teacher once said, the best scorewriters are never heard, because their music is so good that you don't notice it.

nonsense. the greatest scores of all time are 'great' precisely because they are effective and memorable.

just watch any Kubrick, Hitchcock, Lean, Kurosawa or Spielberg film.

a great score can indeed be listened to on it's own.

did anybody here get that MP3HD format Trent was mentioning? 320k is nice and i have that already, but in the instance of an encoding mistake and having a format released that isn't "supposed to be", it will become a rarity and a collectible. if anyone's got the original ZIP of that MP3HD format and would be willing to share it via megaupload or the like, i'd be most grateful...

EDIT: if you can share and could PM me a link, that would be a huge help!

Yeah sounds a lot like GHOSTS leftovers...and a track or two sounds EXACTLY like it could have come from an AIR album.

I'll be scoring a film this winter and as huge NIN fan I was really curious what TR would do with this. These first 5 tracks sound good, and I'm sure it works in context of the film, but sonically it's surprisingly conventional coming from Reznor.

The music can be listened to alone, of course. But if in the heat of the action, you start tapping your feet or humming the tune, then the music is not working for the scene, as it is overriding it, and you get displaced. Except of course in scenes where this is meant to happen (read: Psycho), you should experience, not listen to it.

No filetype can be a rarity. Once the album is out, you can just rip to MP3HD and you have the exact same thing. It's here, if you really want it (only plays as HD in compatiable players, that is none you probably use) [is.gd]

Thats my point not one fucking troll! Every other time new music drops someone comes on and says something stupid, like... wow the bass riff sounds like Trent ripped off KMFDM. Then Trent shows up and owns the troll and then I laugh my ass off. See I live for seeing Trent own the trolls, really no BS. Its usually really funny and epic at the same time. Its actually usually my second or third thing about new music from Trent. Third if I have someone to have sex with to new music. Second if I dont.

Anyway right now i just cant wait till the rest of the album comes out.

No way HTDA sounds like NIN with a seriously sexy sounding female singer to me. And i like that. I rate em almost equal with HTDA getting a little edge.

You done did it again, T-Rez, it sounds great! Particular favorite is "Soft Trees." Scores on their own are usually harder for me to listen to until I've seen them in the context of the movie but I'm not really having that problem with this. I can already see in my head the vibe it's going to give the film but I think for a score it also stands on its own.

Can't wait to buy the full score.

09/22/10 3:20 AM

Love the songs. Thanks for sharing. I'll definitely buy the albun.

Queue up the TRON score sometime. Very electronic, not exactly what one would call subdued and understated, altho the heavier and more active moments are keyed to action scenes in the film with less dialogue, as you would expect.

Try watching a Star Wars movie and not humming your head off when The Imperial March comes on. John Williams has a ton of music that really skirts (if not outright destroys it) this border you speak of. Yes the bigger and more bombastic moments are reserved for action scenes or credits, but there are many repeated themes that are quite hummable that I always find myself fighting not to hum along to. That could just be b/c it's music so indelibly linked to my youth and how well I know it all, but it's my experience.

I saw a band once who used the Imperial March as an intro and the entire gig was a bit of a let-down after that, I think it was Cathedral but I can't even remember

With this sountrack, so far I'm particularly loving Eventually We Find our Way and Gentle Hum of Anxiety - I love the way the latter goes from sinister / half heard voices in the background, then suddenly the piano is like something out of a musical, weird juxtaposition

09/22/10 10:39 AM

OK, serious comment this time tongue sticking out smiley

I was listening to the tracks whilst on the treadmill this morning and couldn't help but noticing a "The Four Of Use Are Dying" vibe with one of them.

Also, a question, which I will go ahead and post on the TSN FB page...

When coming up with the titles of the tracks, did it come organically or do the titles reflect the theme of a particular scene? I guess what I am asking is...are the track names a reflection of the theme of the scene or a feeling you get from the track itself?

LOVIN' Eventually We Find Our Way and On We March.
The rest is also nice, especially The Gentle Hum of Anxiety.

Will be interesting to hear the rest of the soundtrack and to hear these songs in the context of the movie. Wonder if this will change the perception of the songs I've heard beforehand.

Also: I kinda like this way of buying music.
Getting something in advance, the option to order the complete product easily and for a very good price (despite shipping costs), plus the "experience" of ordering from a website specifically set up for this product instead of just another online store. Very convenient ... I LIKE!!

09/22/10 3:41 PM

I think that Eventually We Find Our Way is my new favourite.

looks like I was able to predict the final product again ...
