Question:
Where does the band see themselves in ten years?
Are there any goals you all would like to meet by then?

09/24/10 6:01 PM

hey rez, always wanted to know if 'the becoming' is about deleuze and guattari's philosophy of becoming?

09/24/10 6:08 PM

Although you said NIN will no longer be a live act, do you think maybe you could do any concerts in the future? Maybe something small and more intimate, like your appearance on the Bridge School Benefit? Or Maybe 'Trent Reznor Solo', playing whatever you feel like playing? Or maybe a mix of Ghosts, The Social Network OST and other instrumental tracks?

Too many questions in one. Sorry.

Cheers from Brazil!

Andre

P.s.: after the Brazilian shows were cancelled in '08 I ended up going to Chile to see the LITS tour. It was worth spending money I did not have.

4. If you could get into a fight with anyone, living or dead, who would it be?

5. What is the best concert you've attended?

6. Do you like guacamole?

7. What's your favorite joke?

8. If you could make a collaboration record with three other people, living or dead, who would you choose? and why?

Altough i love music, nowdays it´s hard for me to find apealing music. And since i supose you like to ear music too, I would like to know What do you expect to hear or feel when confronted with a new band/song? Is it still possible for you, after all the great songs you´ve made and heard throughout your life, to feel excited with music?

As a Christian, how my favorite artists view my faith is extremely fascinating and it's something I'm always curious to know. The topic of religion (specifically Christianity) comes up several times in your catalog of work, and I also know that sometimes the personal image and the public image can differ depending on the individual.

Even though I personally adhere to the Christian faith, I still enjoy your music thoroughly, and highly respect you as a person and musician. I am curious as to how you personally view religion and/or Christianity? You can be as general or specific as you would like.

Thank you Trent, and keep up the good work!

Hey you and I both know the music scene is getting worse everyday, so I want to know if you will still be around trying to promote music that doesn't suck the stink off my nut sack?

Question #1-
I know that producing is something you've been doing for a while, but do you think it will become more of a common job for you in the future? I'd very much like to listen to some more albums produced by Trent Reznor. I think you're production for Saul Williams' Niggy Tardust was on par with Eno producing the Talking Heads or with Bowie producing Iggy Pop.

Question #2-
How cool will it feel to win an Oscar for your first film score? It's gotta feel pretty good.

Hi there.

My questions are:

Both NIN and HTDA, are very graphically careful (the sleeves, the concepts, the concerts, the videos, etc). Is the imagery, indissociable with the music? Is it a complement?

What artists (both writers, painters, etc.) do you appreciate and what books do you enjoy reading (or re-reading)?

In the writing process, do you start with a concept, a phrase, a tune? What makes the "click"?

Thank you for your time.

What effect if any did growing up in western PA have on your music? Were there any influences? (I'm from meadville)...

What do you feel of the new evolution of bands utilizing technologies to experiment with both live performance as well as album creation? It seems that computer speed and accessibility of use has done so much good for abstract musicians like Pink Floyd, or Nine Inch Nails, and continues to help voice the vision of newer bands like Animal Collective. To sum up, what are your opinions on the latest paths in tech-enhanced music or what might be some of it downfalls and common mistakes?

So for a guy who is not found of the grammy's (trust me I understand) If you were nominated and won an award would you even accept or tell them to fuck themselves.

09/24/10 7:17 PM

As a musician. How do you react to some artists that say you helped influence them. Do you just stop and say "Ow fuck, you guys suck, don't say that you listened to me and that's why you got into music, I mean fuck." OR talent aside. Do you find it a compliment that younger generations find you inspiring like you found KISS and Ministry inspiring. I wonder this as a musician myself.

What numbers should I bet on lottery?

Love what you did with saul williams, hope you do more. I know that HTDA is just beginning, but i was curious to know if you have been talking to or thinking about collaborating with any other artist in the future and have you been talking to any other directors about movie scores.

09/24/10 7:35 PM

What do you enjoy more, being an entertainer or an artist?

09/24/10 7:38 PM

1. What movie would you love to go back and re-score yourself?

2. Describe your ideal reality for the future.

3. What would you love to see on a tshirt?

4. Do you see the growth of your child as going from 'Lo Rez' to 'Hi Rez'?

Ghosts I-IV release was a brilliant pleasure on the brain and very well executed. It was the first music I picked up of yours since the Further Down the Spiral mixes back in BC.

Now tell me, sir. When...Will you give us what you are Really capable of giving us electronically? Use the OhmForce if you must. I want to hear you tweaking some synths and doing some crazy instrumentals or possibly more deep ambient pieces. I do hope Ghosts was only a prelude to something you are locking inside and holding prisoner. When do you give us the next AphexTwin SAWII creepy kind of wonderfulness?

the new stuff you released in the meanwhile. do you consider it as the music you want to do to at the time right now or do you consider it as another project? There are some things that both projects have in common in ways of music, but you can here the difference. What is the music that you want to create at this time on your own?

While taking a distance from NIN. How do you recap the whole project? Do you think your older albums are the same in things of quality compared to the newer stuff? Or do you handle them as the same stuff?

What is your oppinion about comercial success in general? Do you think about it in a negative way or a positive? Do you think it helps an artist to have 'unlimited' opportunities to create music or do you think it's better for a musician to concentrate just on the music with the stuff they already have (in ways of technique)?

Do you think 'great' music has something to do with playing an instrument perfect or with the 'perfect' match or a little bit of both? I heared some time ago that my guitar teacher told me that (I know it's a very bad example) Linkin Park isn't a very good band because they aren't very god musicians in ways of playing their instruments. But do you think that a good band has to play their instruments in a perfect way in order to make a good band at all?

one huge random question (and very interesting for me because I'm a huge LP and NIN fan at the same time):
I don't know if you heard the new Linkin Park album. But after disliking the band, what do you think about theire new album? they took a new step in their own music style. I have to think about your 'year zero' album after listening to 'a thousand suns'. I don't want to compare this two albums on ways of quality and style. It just had to think about your 'old' album while I was listening to it.

You had once said that once you were happy, you could no longer make music. You've struggled through drug addiction, recovery, relapse, and recovery again. Regardless of your approach, there had to be a point where you had to make amends with yourself and others. Now you have a beautiful wife and a child on the way. Am I to believe you are still unhappy? Or would you consider your younger self's idea to be an ignorant one?
Congratulations on all your personal success!

09/24/10 7:48 PM

Will we see another Film Festival for the next Ghosts record (if there is one)? and will it have similar prizes like The Social Network Remix contest? Have you thought of making a full abstract "music movie" for Ghosts, somewhat like Pink Floyd did for The Wall?

09/24/10 7:52 PM

Do you usually start with the music or the lyrics?

09/24/10 7:53 PM

Is there still hope for a Year Zero series or graphic novel?
---
Have you thought of doing more movie scores?
---
Before news of you doing the score for Social Network you said to expect music from NIN and what we now know is How To Destroy Angels. Can we still expect more from NIN in the future?

09/24/10 8:18 PM

What are you gonna do to make it up to me for missing the final show (Wiltern, which I had 2 tickets for but had to give up after the show was rescheduled to the very day I was leaving the country!!!!)?????

Seriously, that ticket policy still has me pissed off, I found people who would swap shows with me, for a show I could attend, but we could not do it thanks to that over-anal policy. Please do not pull that shit next time around. If you can reschedule a show, you need to give some flexibility to your fans, as well.

BKool81 posted:
Question: With Mr. Fincher's upcoming project, THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, there was a lot of media hype about who would play this version's Lisbeth Salander. I'm a HUGE fan of the original Swedish movies and the books. Well now for me, I'm hyping myself about who is going to score the Fincher version? I think you'd be perfect to score this movie and its sequels. Has there been any mention or talk that you will be involved with the score? It would be nice to keep the NIN/Reznor/Fincher connection alive: "Closer (Precursor)" for SEVEN, Fight Club (Chuck Palahniuk has said he listened to The Downward Spiral a lot when writing the novel), and Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross score for TSN. Just a thought. (Personal note: PLEASE DO IT IF YOU'RE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY!) Thanks! smiling smiley

I wanted to ask the same question and think this is an excellent idea. Fits perfectly and would be just about the only thing that would excite me more about the US version.

I have quite a few questions

1. You've worked with the likes of Coil, J.G. Thirlwell, Telefon Tel Aviv, Aphex Twin and many others, as well as stating yourself to be a fan of Ministry.
What is your opinion on the current state of experimental music and do you still listen to bands like Coil or Throbbing Gristle.

2. If you could go back and change anything about Nine Inch Nails, what would it be?

3. Have you thought about using Max/MSP?

4. Did the songs you made for Bleedthrough sound like the final album With Teeth or were the songs unchanged.

5. What is your favorite game from the current generation of consoles?

09/24/10 8:46 PM

My question for Trent: which bands / artists do you consider to be currently under-appreciated? Why do you think they're not getting the attention they deserve (poor use of "new distribution" or general bad taste in music, etc.)?

Thanks!

for our wedding song, my husband (his name is Trent!) chose your song "A warm place". We feel it is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. What was the inspiration behind the song and what did you and Mariqueen choose for your wedding?

Loving HTA and the latest Atticus Ross collaboration, i can't wait to hear more!

How is your current relationship with director David Lynch, and would you ever consider working with him again if you were offered the opportunity?

09/24/10 9:14 PM

First Radiohead made self-releasing their latest record a big deal, then you did it bigger for Ghosts with different packaging options, and now we're seeing a plethora of similar releases from artists both mainstream and independent who use Topspin and Bandcamp. Are they doing it right or is there still room for improvement? Do you think digital distribution is still changing and is it for the better?
