It's really kicking ass! Takes me back to the first time I heard this on cassette in high school. Thank you!

went out and bought it yesterday, sounds good. Still listening trying to wrap my brain around the new mixes, takes a bit to get used to it. I'm glad you were careful with the new master, I've been disappointed by some remasters in the past, the new Pantera - Cowboys From Hell remaster sucks (the hi-hats and cybals are super loud now), they screwed up some of the ozzy remasters a few years back. They need to be more careful and realize that people only want slight good enhancements to there favorate albums, approach like a surgeon not a construction worker. Good job trent & Tom. I don't think any of your other albums need remastering, am looking forward to the Fragile Reissue, But I assume your just going to put it in surround sound like spiral (I'm glad you didn't change the actual stereo mix or master of that one). Mostly I'd like to get the bonus tracks, extra stuff that didn't make it to the album. I was hoping for some of that stuff on PHM, that's the only dissapointment, wish you could have put a live version of Now I'm Nothing/Terrible Lie as a bonus track or something, glad you put Get down make love onto the end though, I always thought that was a great one.

11/23/10 11:53 AM

Thanks Trent! Getting this in the mail today was the best surprise ever. Just got through it and it's probably the best remaster I've heard in a long time

got it yesterday at borders. sounds great. crisp and clear, but still has warmth. the funny thing is I had been listening to my old tvt cassette in my car on sunday because the old cd release sounded so tinny. so again thanks for taking the time to reproduce the warmth. is there any chance you are going to release multitracks? and is there any chance that broken will get this kind of treatment?

Good question. But if I'm right there's a forum for that kinda posts. But I'm interested into the answer.

I finally got mine!!!! I went to a Best Buy in Orlando and I saw two empty rows meant for PHM. I asked Mr. Best Buy dude if it already sold out or something and he said the computer shows they still had 20. He went to look for it and came back saying he can't find it. That was it. WTF? I went to the closest Target and they didn't know what I was talking about. I finally went to the Best Buy in Melbourne and they had all of them front row centered. There is a difference. The sound is amazing. Nostalgic. Epic. As it was back in the day. It is so funny to see the two PHM cd's I have owned through the years. All scraped up and sun worn and beaten. This will be be spared the torcher because I am a little less drunk and more mature than them daze. Awesome Mr. Reznor. Worth the quest I went through today.

Miles traveled in search of PHM RDX - 80+

Stores traveled to in search of PHM RDX - 4

Money spent on said cd - $7.99

Enjoying the cd that started my downward spiral into NIN in luscious remastered sound - priceless

got mine yesterday off an old iTunes gift card a very good friend of mine gave me years ago,and I'm proud to say this was my first digital purchase ever...and still haven't listened to it yet.Waiting for the right place & time,I know it will be worth it!

The CD version has this as a halo number: it's Halo-02R

I went to Best Buy on lunchbreak yesterday just to touch it! It was a beautiful moment. Also they had like 20 of them for the correct price of $7.99.

(Why didn't I get it, you ask? I'm checking my local music store tonight for it like Trent instructed). I just want Something I can almost have.

Will be looking for a copy tomorrow, have still got some birthday money left over. Thanks, Mr. Reznor, for the lovely birthday present!! smiling smiley

Just got my Vinyl pre-order today from amazon, and I also purchased the cd for good measure. can't wait.

11/24/10 6:16 AM

I tried to download the mp3's from Amazon.co.uk today (I live in Greece, which makes ordering from anywhere else difficult) - Geographical restrictions prevent me from downloading them (buying anything from amazon.com can lead to wait times of over 17 weeks for stuff to reach Greece, so this is a no-go). This means that I have only three options:

1 - To pre-order the CD (for 14 UKP / 16.5 Euro / $22 USD - seriously guys, a 3x markup for foreign buyers? It's only $7 on amazon.com!!) and wait for the music (as amazon.co.uk don't yet have the CD for sale).
2 - To pre-order the CD and download the digital versions via torrent (or somesuch)
3 - To not spend any money and download the music via torrent only

I find this sort of digital restrictions management deplorable. It's one of the things which drives fans into visiting torrent sites. What happened to Trent offering downloads & other stuff directly from his site?

is just new NIN.

You don't need any analysis.
You don't need any question.

Anyone know if/when it will be available in Australia?

We USUALLY get releases that are US Tuesday-dated on the Friday before in Australia.

HOWEVER,

I couldn't find it anywhere on the weekend and the noobs in most stores I went to didn't know what the fuck I was talking about.

And they wonder why online sales are KILLING their shelves.

Noobs.

Do you by any chance live in or near Sydney? If you do, try Utopia Records, they're bound to have it. That's where I get most of my NIN stuff from. They have a website www.utopia.com.au

Queenslander.

Will call the appropriate iimport stores tomorrow!
Otherwise might do a mail order with Utopia.
Gracias.

Trent is not allowed to sell it himself as Null doesn't own it. Null was allowed to help out, but Trent's deal with TVT was awful and left him with little rights, and though Bicycle are an awesome company, they spent a lot of money on getting this, so they're not just going to give it up.
Have you tried a proxy server? I have some friends in Greece who hide their IP as british when they want to buy from Amazon, and it works fine.

Oh, and buy physical from Amazon.com. They ship to Greece ($2.49 shipping costs) and it's much cheaper.

Great for the reissue of PHM, i've pre-order the vinyl edition, like said mutagen it would have been greater with a live track of Now I'm Nothing/Terrible Lie, but it's cool anyway. The real problem is that it's pretty expensive for us european piggies, i will begin to save some money for the fragile reissue, heard that a limited edition will be work by the team who made the amazing box set for Ghosts, so i think it's gonna rasp our european skin balls. Thanks anyway.

So I popped the CD into my PC's drive and the first track was labeled as "?A??ht.?\Z??" rather than "Head Like A Hole". Any explanation? tongue sticking out smiley
Have you ever put a copy of the Broken EP into your computer drive? It comes up with some seriously weird shit!

This is amazing!! I got mine today from best buy. The packaging is freakin awesome, and the cd sounds Great!! And i never heard the whole thing of get down, make love. its a good song. Im just a little mad cause my didnt have a sticker that said the classic debut album remastered in a new digipak package, etc. I like to keep those stickers. Stupid best buy didnt want them on it i guess. >:[

I didn't think that it was possible to love NIN any more than i do now, i was wrong. Thank you for this. Love you MR Reznor.

i just went on prettyhatemachine.com and grabbed all the wallpapers, (even the hidden one) and saved the web-links to Vimeo and all that so i can grab all the videos once i'm on a fast connection (after thanksgiving), and i'll be buying the PHM CD (along with the TSN CD because i've not bought that yet) once i get this 25 dollar check i'm expecting. those'll be an early Christmas present, or maybe it'll be right on time, depending on when my check arrives...

anywho, i look forward to getting those and experiencing it in full quality, as mp3 will not do this justice. i'll play the classic PHM back-to-back with the new PHM, both from CD, and that should be the best way to hear the difference...

Wait, what hidden one??? Please help me out!!

+1 on everything everyone is saying about this album. It sounds great. I'm a total nerd so I set up a play list to listen to each track in order; first the original and then the new. The difference is amazing.

One question: why did you lose the audio sample from 'Midnight Express' from 'Sanctified'? IP issues??

11/24/10 4:39 PM

^ the "hidden" one is the second iPhone wallpaper. Rob Sheridan didn't like how it looked on his phone, so he left it as an "easter egg."

no one is sure why the sample from "Sanctified" was removed, but we can infer copyright reasons.

i got my physical copy of this today thinking how could PHM get any better but oh my god this is awesome. i noticed the difference about 30s into head like a hole (i have listened to this album about 37 million times since i got it in 92 so i know it inside out).

i'm especially digging the background vocals at the end of terrible lie being pushed a bit further forward "i need someone to hold on to" and something i can never have is truly sublime.

well done trent, this release just further proves what passion and amount of detail you have for music.

i'd like to ask one question (if anyone is listening, and this is not a critisiscm in anyway i'd just like to know) with this amount of time and care being spent on such a great piece of music why no flac release?

There is a flac release.

Go get your cd, put it in your computer and rip it to flac.

voila, one flac release

You could've bought it from itunes etc before you know. I do find it odd when people like a band enough to join the forum, discuss and everything else but don't look up their catalogue

11/24/10 8:20 PM

This remaster turns me on.
