The NIN Hotline will for sure, and I'd be surprised if many people didn't

I'm following somebody called 'celebritology' on twitter (celeb division of the Washington Post) who are supposed to be live-tweeting the event (although ebertchicago has been tweeting too) so I'm at lunch at work on tenterhooks! - They'd better be announced before 2 as I'm stuck in a 'workshop' at 2-4 - I'll be edgy if I don't know, and pissed off if they do announce them and they aren't nommed!

I think this is really sticking it to the music industry - they leave that and go it alone and voila - an Oscar and respect!

EDIT - getting ahead of myself - an Oscar Nomination!

I'd like to see Justin Bieber or Lady GaGa try and get a nomination.

There are artists, and then there are entertainers in the music industry. Trent is an artist. Though I can't help it if I'm entertained by his shenanigans on the stage grinning smiley

Wow, look at the Recent Listening Trend here on last.fm. It pops right up through the roof in the last week, after the Golden Globe ceremony. This soundtrack definitely introduces new listeners to the Rez, and these awards seem to help a lot.

I'm very happy that Trent and Atticus get all these accolades for their work, it's well-deserved. Congrats, guys!

Trent Reznor reacts to Best Score nomination for 'The Social Network'

Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor is giving himself props for his Best Score nomination for The Social Network, as much as it strains him to do so. “It’s not in my nature to sit back and pat myself on the back, but I’m making myself pause and actually enjoy the moment and say, you know, I really think we did good work on this,” the musician, who is nominated alongside Atticus Ross, tells EW. “And it feels nice to see it be appreciated by an institution that knows what it’s talking about. It feels nice, it really does.”

Yet Reznor hardly expected to be pick up an Oscar nomination at any point during his career. “[It] never crossed my mind,” he says. “I may have had a fantasy of directing somebody. But I don’t think it ever came to the point of thinking anyone would like what I’m doing.”

Obviously, they did — and now the Golden Globe-winning musician, who has spent most of his career as a Hollywood outsider, is suddenly enjoying being on the inside. “At this point in my life, and I guess my maturity level, it doesn’t feel odd,” he says. “What I think is monumental about this is, this isn’t a traditional score. And the movie doesn’t feel like a traditional Oscar candidate film. It’s very contemporary and the score doesn’t behave like normal scores do. This wasn’t like, let’s make something and cater it for awards season. In all honestly, if you’d have told me a year ago [that I’d be nominated], I would never have believed you. We didn’t go into it with that mindset at all.”

Trent Reznor is one of the most respected creative minds among his generation of rock musicians, and his industrial rock band, Nine Inch Nails, was considered a signature sound for two decades before Reznor downshifted his career last year to focus on family. Now, though, the first-time father said he is still pulsing from his experience with “The Social Network” and is looking at Hollywood work as a possible new career path.

“I’ll be honest, watching the music industry collapse has been demoralizing and disheartening at times,” said Reznor, 45. He added that spending months or even years working on a traditional album is less appealing now that “it can be stolen in second and forgotten in a week.”

The music Reznor made for “The Social Network,” by contrast, has taken on a different sort of life in pop culture, and he’s heard from fans both old and new who found the sonic architecture of the movie just as compelling as its tale of creativity, ambition and acclaim.

“This is completely new territory for me and I feel inspired,” Reznor said. “This opportunity came completely out of the blue, and it gave me a chance to work with ['Social Network' director] David Fincher, someone at the top of his field, and the experience was a good one and educational one, and I never once felt like jumping out of a window, which usually happens at least once with a big project. It’s been a dream, and that’s weird because usually I don’t have dreams where my pants are on.”

Reznor said he is getting calls from other Hollywood filmmakers and that he is mulling over “the trajectory of my life for the next few years.” Rock fans though, shouldn’t worry that the intense, dark figure of the industrial scene will stay away from the concert world for good. “I feel most alive when I’m on stage, but it’s just touring for a year that I don’t see as part of my life right now.”

Going back to OMS's post above where Trent talks about not wanting to tour for a year - see, personally I wouldn't mind if Trent never did the massive full on tour for years thing BUT I do want to see his music being 'performed'. I think he seems to diminish the impact of music performance, I'd be OK if we just saw some videos of performances on nin.com in the style of the Still performances. And that goes for HTDA too
