Awsome! Everyone I wanted to win won last night!

(Slight side-tracking, but this really does relate to Trent, I swear...)

Is anyone else familiar w/Cindy Sherman's Untitled Film Stills photo series? Basically, they're B&W photos (w/Cindy as the sole figure in them) that are set up to look like stills from a movie--you could swear you've seen the movie it's from, but it's not from an actual movie; it just looks as if it should be. Well, the first time I heard some of the instrumentals on The Fragile (especially "Just Like You Imagined" ), my immediate reaction was that they were to film scores what Cindy's photos were to movie stills. (Namedropping alert: I talked about this w/Bob Mould back in the spring of 2000 at the Throwing Muses reunion show, & he not only got what I meant, but agreed w/me. winking smiley ) Ever since then, I always thought film scoring was something that Trent should pursue seriously, and what do you know...he did, and look how it's worked out! smiling smiley

Congratulations, guys! I'm happy for you; I'm even prouder to be a longtime fan; and I for one can't wait until the Academy Awards! *virtual hugs & chocolate chip oatmeal cookies!*

Thinking about it - nor did Daft Punk, I think it's just very much more traditional. Also, Clint Mansell no noms even though he's British but they have a 50% original music rule so maybe he fell foul of that?

Yeah Clint Mansell is getting fucked everywhere due to that - even though, imo, his score is that much better because of it. BAFTAs have, lately, been trying to shake the whole traditional aspect, I thought there'd be a chance. Ah well, Oscars next!

Oh, and TR+AR won this too [www.stlfilmcritics.org]

Yeah - all the score noms are completely traditional though - I was kind of hoping they'd end up doing interviews / Q&A type things here in London because of it, still not to be. And yeah, onto the Oscars!

Thanks for helping...much appreciated!

Now someone needs to working on getting wiki and IMDb to update their pages.

A little foreshadowing in front of the HBO background? Hopefully in the near future Trent will be accepting a GG for best mini-series.

It was awesome seeing them win the award. My thought right away was thinking about the Korn pirate ghost South Park where the town believes these are just some nice fellas until they actually play the heavy music not knowing what they were getting into i.e. Nins most aggressive tracks! haha As far as the Oscar, if Eminem can win one anythings possible hehe. I can just see Celine Dion or someone handing Trent the award haha. I dont really consider the score as an Nin score, but more traditional sounding with elements of nin. Its not like they are blasting Starfuckers inc in the background! Although I bet when they score the Girl with the Dragon tattoo it will be more visceral along the lines of Nin since its actually a dark film opposed to Social Network. With this win I think Trent can make his fake album strobe light a reality! ha A J-Lo collaboration? Congrats & the Oscar is in the bag baby!!

I'm assuming you are referring to the nominations. They will be live on the Today Show (NBC)...if you can find some sort of live stream for that.

I have no clue. I watch the Today Show every morning and they always show the nominations to Globes, SAG and Oscars live...and they announced on Friday that they would be doing so for the Oscar noms Tuesday morn. Sometimes they only air announcing on the major categories, not that the score category isn't...but they have to draw the line somewhere. I'll do my best to remember to post something here when I definitively know.

But if anyone has info for y'all in EU and elsewhere, by all means, share it.

01/23/11 9:59 PM

According to this press release, it will be streamed live at multiple sites:

posted:
Academy President Tom Sherak and last year’s Supporting Actress winner, Mo’Nique, will then take the stage in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater at 5:38:30 a.m. PT to reveal the nominees for 10 categories: Leading Actor, Leading Actress, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, Animated Feature Film, Directing, Foreign Language Film, Adapted Screenplay, Original Screenplay and Best Picture.

...The January 25 nominations announcement edition of “Road to the Oscars” can be viewed on Oscar.com, Oscars.org, Facebook.com/TheAcademy and Livestream.com/AcademyAwards, as well as on other sites that choose to embed the stream. The stream will also be enabled for mobile devices.

stream links:
[oscar.go.com]

They must release a complete list to the press at the time of the show, so the entertainment shows will mention the other categories, or they might mention it as one of the total number of nominations that TSN receives.

As a fan, I'd be happy just to see a nomination. The two men deserve it, and we all know the oscars are horribly rigged, so winning depends on where the money went.

Am I right in thinking that PT = time in LA - which is GMT - 8hrs. I'm just thinking about when to check this out, and I make it 1pm tomorrow in the UK ? I want to be sure to be on twitter (at ahem lunch at work) when this is announced.

PST is pacific time witch is LA time. I am 2 hours different, CST which is GMT - 6 hours...so that sounds about right. Other UK peeps might be able to confirm this.

Thanks for the links SwimFin.
