You missed the memo...he IS working on NIN material.

So Trents voice has really started peaking more and more each release. I didn't even know he could sound like that. Bravo sir.

Time for a customer service gripe (sorry, ignore it if you must):

This Sandbag crowd haven't impressed. Ordered on the 2nd of December. I never got an acknowledgement but my PayPal was charged; can't get into the shop site today to extract any sort of download link. I've managed to procure the download elsewhere, but that's hardly the point when the legal method met with such a shoddy organisation. Disappointing, especially as my enquiry won't be answered until Monday when they all get back to work.

12/09/11 3:33 PM

This was worth the wait - so happy

12/09/11 3:44 PM

You know...it would be nice to have a separate thread just for the "customer service" bitching, so that it doesn't clog up the thread made for discussing the ACTUAL TGWTDT PROJECT.

And I called it last night...bitchfest about the actual music was inevitable. "Go back to doing NIN...blah, blah blah!" There is a thread for random comments like this, and it's not THIS one.

12/09/11 3:53 PM

Just thought I would share for you all to see. Sounds juicy.

I completely agree, which is why I spent some time looking for such a thread. Needed to vent. Now I'm off to listen. Six posts in three years doesn't clog as much as 8,829 in just under four, though....
It's a mess but it will be over soon and everyone can get back to their normal rock 'n' troll.

TSN had many tracks repeated, I don't think this means that there's 6 more tracks on here, but possibly there's less than the 37 score tracks on there!

12/09/11 5:08 PM

If I remember correctly Trent and Atticus reworked the score into the actual tracks released on the TSN soundtrack, and as I recall Trent (or was it Atticus) who commented in some interview that they where faced with the task of NOT naming the songs "Mark runs across the Campus" ( "Hand covers bruise" ) - so I wouldn't be surprised if exactly the same happened here...

I just began my 3rd loop (6th hour) of this absolutely beautiful, intricate, hypnotic work! Trying to work on graphics, I find myself turning up the volume and closing my eyes... An edgy bliss!

Trent, I am at a complete loss for accurate expression! This is stirring, moody and rich - the detail and stage you've set are powerful and delicate - such a perfect balance and tremendous range! I am enjoying this on a level that takes me places - emotional and moving! Writing in a forum seems not to be enough, regardless; Thank You! Your work, as it flows and evolves with you, is such a gift. We are so lucky to have this place to share with you and fellow fans - you have touched many! Additionally, the care you put into this release has been extraordinary and all is deeply appreciated.

I love this music to the extent I better understand why my Grandfather was so moved and emotional by the classical era composers he loved. My weekend will be filled with this music as I'll be editing and searching creativity - perfect!

Again, to our great 21st Century Composer - Thank You! And sincere congratulations on this complex and beautiful release!

I just got done listening to the soundtrack in full. I can't really describe how impressed I truly am, and I can tell this is something to revisit over and over to fully grasp. It's really a work of intricacy.

12/09/11 6:50 PM

Wow. "The Heretics" is one of the most impressive pieces of music that Trent has composed in some time. There are so many elements and they all mesh perfectly together.

That looks really awesome! I thought I saw somewhere that there were 4 CD's though.

Is there a booklet? No or else it would have been shown. It is under $15.00 right?

No one has ever said there's 4 CDs, it's 3. And the images that nintrentfreak kindly shared are not from the commercial album, but from the Award Show sampler, that is sent to people who vote on what should win what come award season.

12/09/11 7:24 PM

Oh indeed I mush have been mistaken on the four compact disc's idea, there's three.

The Award Show Sampler? So it's like 65% of the whole movie soundtrack? Cool!

Yep, there's no bar code that's the first thing I should have looked for that tells.

Where can you vote? -TreyS

You can't vote. Only people selected to vote can - so for the Oscars, that's the Academy, etc.
Until we see track times, it won't be clear how much of the actual OST is in the sampler, but I think it's probably more than just 65%

12/09/11 9:38 PM

To be honest, I thought The Social Network score was really good, but I didn't think it'd get chosen for an Oscar. Not that it didn't deserve one, I just thought they'd overlook it because someone whose fame hails from an industrial hard rock band would just receive less consideration from the judges. However, since that won, it will be completely impossible to ignore this soundtrack. It's dark, it's brooding, it's moody, it's elemental, it's deep, and it pretty well surpasses The Social Network's score in every way. Trent and Atticus have delivered yet another immense collection of the most expressive instrumental music you could ask for. I will be disappointed in the human race if this soundtrack doesn't win an Oscar, among other awards.

I bought another set of headphone splitters and hooked up my third set of computer speakers just so I can immerse myself in this music. This is the soundtrack to my winter.

Bitching is not calling out gibberish nonsense. Bitching is throwing an absolute shit fit because someone is somehow so disappointed in a lossless 16/44 FLAC version and can't just quiet down and enjoy the music, at least until Trent does release a 24/96 version.

I mean, I'm not putting down all technical advantages. I'm not saying to shut up and enjoy a 96kbps .m4a version of the album or something stupid like that, but in all fucking honesty, how much of a difference do people audibly hear in a 24/96 rip?

I'm 18 years old with good hearing and good speakers. I can't hear shit over 16/44.

If some of you can hear it, or more accurately "feel" the more analogous PCM since the human ear isn't going to be hearing 48kHz which is the effective frequency of 96kHz, that's fine, but if your situation is at the point where you can't enjoy a 16/44 rip then that's you having some sort of OCD reaction.

I am not in the mood for a sound frequency conversation. You can't even pick up on sarcasm, I sure as fuck don't want to talk about your preferences of sound control. I could alter it in a mix program if my music listening life depended on it.

I got your sarcasm dick, it wasn't very funny.

For 99% of current music, yeah 16/44 is fine. Current music is compressed and freakishly limited to the breaking point of digital's scale with all dynamics smashed into what looks like tabletops. Utter shit I may add...

An album like this, with a lot of dynamics and room for instruments to breath, fuck yeah I want 24/96! This is new age classical, if I have a chance to hear 24/96 give it to me! It's 2011 not 1982. There's no reason we shouldn't take advantage of higher bit depths and sample rates.

I'll enjoy music through a fucking graphophone if that's all I can get, but that isn't the point...

Buy a real DAC, you'll see what your missing...

I typically don't listen to the sort of music that would drastically feature the dynamics you speak of though, that is if the way necessary to achieve those is non-current production methods.

My main thing is though that honestly I think a lot of the 24/96 thing is a mentality people have. Again, I hear no advantages from it, over a wide variety of genres on a wide variety of sound systems. Sometimes I think I'm hearing something but then I won't hear it later so I've deduced it's probably just wanting to hear something from it and my mind filling in the blanks.

If you hear something though, that's fine. I hope you get something out of it, and Trent probably will eventually have some sort of 24/96 version I would think.

Currently on track 19, Aphelion, and loving what I have heard in the first half. Thanks Trent & Atticus!

12/10/11 3:38 AM

Finally heard it all. Had to do it in 2 sittings, just too much to take in in one go!

Awesome body of work, some of which could easily be described as NIN imo.

Soundtrack? More like a soundscape.

Impossible to pick out favourites right now, gonna have to listen to it A LOT more!

This might/does sound gay, but when Trent's voice chimes in in Is Your Love Strong Enough, I literally got shivers up my spine. Literally.

Thank you Trent and Atticus for some more great times. So appreciated.

5 tracks*

And there are none, probably. The TSN sampler ( [www.ninwiki.com] ) had multiple tracks repeated, and whilst it did have one original track (Dinner With Sean), I think TRAR probably have put one version of every piece of score they've made on the OST this time round.

It wouldn't be used for any type of remastering in the first place if the differences weren't there. That doesn't mean a person's senses are going to pick up all of the differences, but from 16 to 24 bits they'll at least notice some difference. So no, it's not just the sound of insanity you're hearing.
