I also got the Into the Void/Fragile vibe with the vid on the homepage, when I first saw it.

I was fiddling around, and syncing Into the Void works pretty well with the opening credits. I saw flowers, thought Fragile XD

Anyways not to mince real feedback, while I did enjoy some of the more faster paced rhythms enough to keep me entertained my first and last impression of the music is some of it sits bordering on tween measure, is disconnected and out of sync with the core of the book/movie.

Besides I was waiting like the whole movie to see what Infiltrator and oraculum would be used for..... And I was expecting A Thousand Details to be included in the scene with the line "A science of thousand details"...just sayin.

"Infiltrator" WAS in the film, near the end, while tying up some loose ends.

"A Thousand Details" is a track I believe was scored separately for the 8-minute trailer as I recall reading Trent said the 8-Minute trailer was scored separately.

Thanks that definitely clarifies things a little more now. I suppose the editing of the music on the film probably threw me off a little

At this I actually agree with you and you have a real valid point/comment, you probably meant feminist though?

I don't know. You have confused me. Can't they(feminine and feminist) be one and the same?

No

I think Lisabeth represents represents a balance between femenine strength and vulnerability, but I wouldn't call her a femenist, because she is not political.

Just a quick note: this thread is for comments pertaining to the soundtrack and/or its use in the film.

Please use The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo thread in the TV & Movies forum for all other comments related to the film.

Thanks.

Edit: This is a general note, to everyone... I'm not talking to you two up there ^ ^, you're not the only ones posting in this thread.

A hacker investigating crimes against women and corrupt businessmen is very political, which seems like a more relevant theme to approach with music in relation to the movie and books.

Finally got mine this morning. Beautiful packaging on it, kudos to Mr Sheridan and everyone else involved. Love the totally illegible copyright bullshit on each disc taht has been previously mentioned. Stick it to the man!

Looking forward to hearing it 'properly' for the first time, though I know it inside out already! Must've played it all the way through at least 10 times so far, and it just resonates (emotionally and sonically) so much. Great piece of work. Thankyou once again Trent and Atticus (and Mariqueen - some delightful feminine sounds scattered around the discs).

I see that the duo has been nominated for an award for the score. I hope they win so we can listen to Trent's impeccable word as he accepts his award. (Trent when you win you better smile!!!) grinning smiley

Trent and Atticus get the shaft from the GGs. Is Hollywood's love affair with Trent officially over? I hope not. TGWTDT's score was infinitely more powerful than TSN's; I can't imagine not getting the same recognition from the establishment this time around. The Oscar(R) is still up for grabs, guys!

As stand alone music, I like TGWTDT better. But the TSN score added more to the movie. Plus, TSN was an infinitely better movie. It's also extremely difficult to repeat an Oscar, because the Oscars are all about increasing the marketing potential of the winner, and the marginal marketing value added is significantly lower for a second one received.

So I don't think it will win an Oscar either.

I disagree with Dragon Tattoo's OST being better than TSN's, but the important thing to remember is that there are other competitors, it's not a question of base merit. Last year was more open, this year The Artist has been sweeping the board. Feel free to keep crossing your fingers for the Oscar, but I think it has minimal chances.

I haven't seen/heard the film, but The Artist is virtually silent, it relies on the music to convey emotion and theme. It's exactly the type of content that American awards institutions like, the Weinsteins didn't pick it up on a whim. The film's general momentum will be a major factor, too - TGWTDT has none.

Award or no award, it's still a gorgeous piece of work!

01/16/12 3:30 PM

Soundtrack is just godamn awesome. Love the artwork! The music fits in fucking perfectly with the film. Wow.thumbs up

01/18/12 12:23 PM

Excellent, Trent Atticus do not disappoint, i ordered the vinyl, i know only 30000, will be let go, hope i'am 1 of them. Have all NIN on vinyl, got social network on vinyl, hope 2 get this also!!! The movie was brillant...

01/19/12 11:30 AM

With all of the hype, I really want to see the movie... but I'm debating on whether or not I should read the books first.

01/20/12 2:05 PM

I have not seen the movie or have read the book. I suggest you see the movies and then read the book. I did that with Jaws, Star Wars, Jurassic Park and The Godfather. 1975, 1977, 1993 & 1972 the movies I've listed here those are the original release year dates. I like to do that...

01/22/12 11:45 AM

Yes, but I like to dream up the characters first and then compare the differences. Unfortunately, sometimes that tends to leave me rather disappointed.

01/23/12 9:19 PM

I understand how you feel many book fans have been sad about the movies. I hope The Hobbit is well done this December 2012. I had a great NIN weekend I sang Head Like A Hole in a karaoke bar totally hardcore! I performed like all the NIN performances I've seen it was so awesome! Later we went to this abandoned meat packing plant with a friends friend who lived there and there was so much stuff he said we could have for free! There was a box full of Rolling Stone magazines and I got a hold of the first print November 9th 1967 and the NIN September 8th 1994 issue!

01/24/12 8:36 AM

I think trent's love affair with the oscars is officially over.

01/24/12 8:37 AM

It's an incredible version!
EXCELLENT 100%!!!!
To the Oscar again TR & AR!

They are not nominated for the Oscar. I guess because this soundtrack is much too epic for just an Oscar. They need to invent a new prize for it.

01/24/12 9:29 AM

At somepoint in the future, TR will probably think of the Oscars as he thinks of the Grammys. It's all the same shit really.

I was suprised that the cinemetographer got nominated. I must have seen the film on a bad projector. The editors(sound and film) got nominated. The sound guys can thank TR for giving them all the bandwith with his mellow soundtrack.

01/28/12 9:45 AM

This song (hell this album) is amazing! It makes me want to track down the fabled KISS cover that never made it to the KISS My Ass tribute album.

Trent and Atticus, you guys are awesome! Keep up the amazing work!

P.S. There should have been an oscar nomination in this for you, the guys who nominate for oscar have no idea what they are talking about this year smiling smiley

I think the Oscar's have a bit more over the Grammys in terms of prestige and honor (holy fuck - are the Grammys really being hosted by LL Cool J? And there's going to be a performance by Coldplay with Rihanna...? You might as well rub barf all over your HD television and step on a cat's tail to experience the same AMAZING entertainment).

However - that's not to say that the Oscars aren't horrible. I think the overall quality of nominations are better in comparison with the shit that gets nominated for the Grammys, but that's not to say that I don't think that both academies are run by withering old men armed with jangling pockets and a pair of blinders.

With that said, the nominations this year really are terrible though. Fucking TINTIN got a nomination for 'Best Original Score' over Trent and Atticus? That's bullshit.

There are so many others snubs I could list, but I'm trying very hard not to keep this post from going off topic...

I doubt that, and hope not. They were both very humbled by the Oscar win.

I agree. I think it boils down to quantity. It's harder to win an Oscar becuase there are fewer of them. But at the end of the day they are both marketing tools.

Gladiator and Titanic both won Best Picture. Natilie Portman and Sandra Bullock both won Best Actress. So clearly, there is no shortage of award wining, no-talent ass-clowns in the entertainment industry.
