every now and then, I click on a now online Profile from the front page, just to see where they're from and which NIN song/album they like best.

I'll be damned if 95 out of 100 people I click on say The Fragile, or some song from the album. Thought I would point that out. Please post HERE if you agree with this pretty general consensus.

ALSO-
I am partial to 'I'm Looking Forward to Joining You, Finally', and always thought about doing a cover of that live. I like the idea that it's never been done before (that I know of), and most people don't really recognize it or think of it in terms of NIN songs. I could say - this next song is one of my favorite NIN songs - and then play that, and people would be like 'what the hell is that song from?' . . .

The reason I think Trent doesn't do that is because it had been rumored that that song is based off his grandmother's death and it would be too emotional to play on stage.

Are you sure there was no other topic about The Fragile in general?

I also heard this - but it's beauty to me far surpasses it's sadness. The fact that he is looking forward to joining her is more hopeful to me, than it is a blatent wish for death. He never talked about dying in the literal sense (he never said I want to die) he responded to his loss in a more hopeful, very beautiful way. . .

Being someone who has also experienced loss, this hit home for me too on a very personal level, and I find it a very beautiful piece of music, instead of a tragic piece.

The bassline, the precussion, the softly spoken words, and the watery pads that lay underneath it all during the chorus . . It's a great song to me . . .

I can understand why he wouldn't want to play it live if that's the reasoning behind his decision . . .

Trent has never shyed away from baring his soul on stage but I guess everyone has a limit and I can see why it might be too painful for him to play in front of so many people.

i think anyone who acctually gives a shit about NIN would recognize "i'm looking forward to joing you finally " in two notes, its definatly one of my favorites.

point taken - I guess anyone who's a member and clicks on this thread in the first place would know it - the chance of anyone from here actually being a member of a small audience at my show, however, not very likely . . . I believe in the members here though . .

What are some of your (everyone) favorite tracks and why?

i would really kill to see NIN perform this album live.
or at least the right CD... man since "the way out is through" passing trhough
"complication" and finishing with "ripe (with decay)"

my favorite lines of the right CD
"Underneath it all
We feel so small
The heavens fall
But still we crawl"

"Nothing ever grows and the sun doesn't shine all day
Tried to save myself but myself keeps slipping away"

"And I don't know why
All the pieces don't fit
Thought I really didn't give a shit
I never wanted to be like you
But for all I aspire
I am really a liar
And I'm running out of things I can do"

"Never be enough
To fill me up"

"Try so hard to make the pieces all fit
Smash it apart
Just for the fuck of it"

"as black as the night can get..."
"... in the blur of serenity"

see if anybody cares.

Would someone tab out The Big Come Down for guitar already? Every damn site says it has the guitar tab only it turns out to be bass.

Even if The Fragile was crap I'd still hold it very close to my heart, mainly due to when it came out and what was happening to me at that time.

It was released in the UK the day after my now wife went back home (we'd just started a long distance relationship after meeting a year before at The Ozz-Fest). This was after a weeks holiday together, during that week was when it hit me that she was the one. I wouldn't she her again for another 10 weeks.

Listening to tracks like TDTWWA, WITT and The Fragile now have a different impact than they did the first time I heard them. The album now represents a turning point in my life and a happy point. But when I first bought the album esp. the first few weeks I owned it, it sort of always represented apart of my life that was lost. Even though it was only for 10 weeks - the reason I knew she was the one was by the fact I'd never felt so down before esp. over a lass!

It's an absolute masterpiece for me. One of the best albums ever made.

I always end up listening to all of it. The songs work perfectly together, like an exciting tale is being told, and I don't feel like interrupting it. Also, I have yet to hear another 23-track double disc that manages to stay interesting through its entire running time. An average band's music descends into monotony after about a dozen songs. NIN changes all the time. It's unique and beautiful, even in its most brutal moments.

The Fragile is now my favourite album by NiN, probably favourite ever

10/14/08 6:20 AM

The Fragile is withot doubt my favorite album of all time. So much so i have the opening verse of 'Even Deeper' Tattooed on my back.
Every song means something to me, or takes me to a place in my past. For me it has ever emotion, Love, Hate, sorrow, lonliness, self doubt, Anger, Loss Etc Etc.

I cant express how much i love listening to this album in a quite dark room just by myself to think about things, escape or look back at what i've lost at sometime in my life. It also gives me some hope for the future.

I'll stop, i think i have bored you enough now.

10/14/08 6:21 AM

One more thing, La Mer is probably one of the most touching songs i know.
That it, i'll stop now.

10/14/08 2:23 PM

The Fragile is like my best friend. I can always turn to it when im down, it wont judge me, it will let me scream along, it will let me cry, it will always be there

10/14/08 4:03 PM

I bought The Fragile when I was in high school, but I didn't really listen to it then. I think I liked Starfuckers, but that was it. I remember trying to listen to the album during an 8 hour train ride, but I just wasn't interested. I was too impatient at the time--I was at a different point in my life than the album. I was still listening to TDS and other bands even though I'd loved NIN for so many years. I didn't think it was a bad album, I just wasn't ready for it. Even when With Teeth came out, I was still elsewhere, not ready to listen. When Year Zero was released, I fell in love all over again. I was finally ready to listen to the years that I was occupied by other music.

The Fragile is such a beautiful piece of work. There isn't a song on it that I want to skip. Whenever a song from it comes up on my playlist, I tend to take random off just to listen to the rest of the cd. Just like everyone else, the songs mean something to me on a personal level, and it's hard for me to believe that it took me 8 years to finally "listen" to it.

my fav song is definatly the great below. i love its soft and dark harmonizations. the shifiting sound is especially gorgeous it makes me think of the passing of time. the idea of being consumed by the sea is just ... i dont know it comforts me. as soon as you suck the water into your lungs your gone....

10/14/08 3:48 PM

Definitely my favorite NIN album and most likely my favorite album of all time.

this song reminds me of a girl i used to date. but its such a meaningful song. in my opinion. i remember listening to this song and wishing that this girl could see herself through my eyes. any ways, trent explains it better in this song than i could ever do. end of story was we broke up and we still talk from time to time, and she is now a NIN fan, at least some good came out of that relationship. or shoudl i say relationshit!!! i love these lyrics!

she shines
in a world full of ugliness
she matters when everything is meaningless

fragile
she doesn't see her beauty
she tries to get away
sometimes
it's just that nothing seems worth saving
I can't watch her slip away

I won't let you fall apart

she reads the minds of all the people as they pass her by
hoping someone can see
if I could fix myseld I'd - but it's too late for me

I wont let you fall apart

we'll find the perfect place to go where we can run and hide
I'll build a wall and we can keep them on the other side
...but they keep waiting
...and picking...

it's something I have to do
I was there, too
before everyhting else
I was like you

the fragile is the first NIN cd i ever owned. my friend burned me a copy from her mom's cd collection, and i fell in love. i used to use it to fall asleep at night...it made me so peaceful.

ESPECIALLY I'm Looking Forward to Joining You, Finally. The smell of sunshine...it's just great.

Now I have the actual cd of The Fragile, not just a burned copy. I can honestly say, it's one of my most valuable possesions. NIN is the only band I buy actual cds of. I'd much rather have the actual, tangile disk of a NIN album than an iTunes digital cd.

Every single song on The Fragile gets me so emotional. Seriously...it's hard to explain...but I think any fan of NIN "gets" what I'm trying to say, right?

Now that i've written a novel...haha i'll stop now.

My thoughts exactly...

This is great. I hope Trent reads this at some point. His feeling towards The Fragile are always mixed with 'it didn't really do good with record sales' and the like . . .

I hope he understands that he is responsible for making an album that trully means something, right up there with The Wall, Led Zeppelin IV, Tommy, and other great albums . . .

The Fragile continues to surprise me with it's though provoking intuitiveness, and I still find new meaning, new sound, and new ways to enjoy that record.

Some version of this cd (left, right or Things Falling Apart) has been in my cd changer since it's release. It is my favorite recording... by anyone...ever.

I agree. I've heard that Trent has had mixed feelings about the album....

But there are many of us, it seems, who continue to be deeply affected by this album and would choose it as our favourite NIN album. Myself included.

I remember sept 21st, 1999 very well. two double albums were released by two of my favorite artists: nin and tori amos.

I spent a lot of money that day, but came home happy. in retrospect, I was disappointed with tori's release. to venus and back wasn't all that great....

but for the past 9 years or so, the fragile has been my favorite album, period. I don't think anything else speaks to me nearly as deeply, and for as long.

I even made a rough draft for a movie based around it yawning smiley

10/22/08 3:08 AM

It's the second best album of all time in my opinion (right behind TDS).

I hope he releases a 5.1 version as well as a version that connects both discs plus the added two extra songs and the appendage to please.

Not to mention I want to see the videos in DVD/Blu ray quality UNedited (that means the original TDTWWA video without the like portion as well as the Mark Pelington cut of We're In This Together)
