I like listening to the Things Falling Apart EP/remix cd with The Fragile, i seems to compliment the album well in my opinion.

The Fragile is one of those albums that marks a sort of transitional point in NIN's songwriting. There is a little bit of everything in there, and it seemed to even bring out the lyrics that much more, like as if he wanted you to pay extra attention to them as well as the music. I even like the overall musical theme it had even how some songs carried a certain set of notes through each song (i.e. The Frail and The Fragile's guitar solo) Overall the album is one of my top favorites. It pulls a lot of inspiration from me sometimes (I know that sounds so corny and weird) As a matter of fact, my profile page notes "The Fragile" as my favorite song, because it has so much meaning and yet can be so thought provoking.

i agree. a definate transitional point. i remember that a lot of fellow nin friends i had back then dropped off after that. it was too different for them, but i liked the transition/ evolution of it. it was a maturation for trent. i know, i'm a crusty old nin follower...but just cause i knew nin was the greatest back in '92 doesn't mean i was wrong, does it? sorry, i didn't realize his awesomeness until then! (thank you, big sister!!!)

I'd love listening to this album while taking a nice hot bath.

i scanned the packaging and the booklet in high resolution, retouched it so that they look good, and uploaded it here: [www.megaupload.com]

David Carson made the whole design, and he is my favorite grunge artist ever!
imagine my face when i found out that my fave artist did the artwork for my fave album by my fave band! XD

My love for NIN is based on this album and it's probably my favourite record by any artist ever. Many sad memories and feelings are tied to these songs and it is stunning how they come back immediately while listening to them. Epic gigantic love.

i consider it as the most perfect album ever created. i can find NO negative thing about it. that actually scares me a bit.

from my scans i did a few days ago i bought me a very expensive print out of the cd packagings back, poster format, so that i can hang it behind my desk.

Best Album, remix album, art work, everything! era ever in my opinion. Where is everybody? The Great Below!!

Best album of all time. Hands down.

the little details that you notice when you listen for the 600th time.... the shades and texture and color of the music... as it bleeds through.

a truly great and unparalleled piece of art.

i'm listening to the fragile now! just finishing up the left side.

i didn't 'get' this album at first and thought it was kind of forgettable... but after returning to it later, i kind of see it as one of his most poignant works. each song is its own intricate reality, beautifully crafted and telling a quiet story about life inside.

Very important album for me!! Shame we don't have a section for this album on the from forum page!

I really liked the album when it first came out, but I admit it took awhile for me to really get into it....

But it's amazing that as time went on, I began to appreciate it so much more. And every time I would listen to it, I got something more out of it. And now it's definitely my favourite album ever released.....such an incredible piece of art.

Does anyone know what flower David Carson used for the cover?

06/15/09 8:07 PM

^^ there are no flowers on the cover. it's a seashell and a waterfall.

Trent excels at concept albums. Downward Spiral, Year Zero, and The Fragile are my top three NIN albums.

06/24/09 4:43 PM

I'm surprised no one mentioned that Trent announced the Deluxe Edition of The Fragile.

06/24/09 5:04 PM

Someone mentioned it in a locked thread:

i think it's more of a fork in TDS's story. The Fragile picks up from the middle of Ruiner(guitar solo),when the main character battles God, and succeeds. But in The Fragile, he fails, and is left nearly dead, nothing, and picks himself back up.

From the songs to the artwork, a beautiful masterpiece. It's filled with so many different emotions.

WHAT? Those 2 albums are not Dan Brown's or Tolkien's novels, you know? At least I thought that "Ruiner" was about a drug dealer or something like that, not about a battle with god. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that some people takes the "conceptual album" thing too far, imagining weird stories about those albums. I don't see "The Fragile" as a follow-up to a story of a character from "TDS", it's just an album about Trent's feelings and thoughts at that time. I don't think that "TDS" and "TF" are conceptual albums like "ACSS" and "Mechanical Animals", with stories about fictional characters, for me "TDS" and "TF" may be conceptual albums because all the songs are related to each other some way with the whole album having a same theme or concept, but I don't see them as "novels with music".

That's pretty neat interpretation.

I've come around to thinking that it's not about the character that confronts God in "The Downward Spiral" but rather it's someone who watched the events from a distance.

"So Impressed with all you do
Tried so hard to be like you"

to me has many meanings, but specifically it's someone who watched the man from Downward Spiral and wanted to do what he did, only to fall just as the man did.

i as well

and all the b-sides not included like 10 miles high (version). Actually right now i cant even remember if thats even on TFA ?!

12/31/09 5:10 PM

^ that's silly of you — of course it's from (or was intended for) TFA if it's got (version) on the end of it! the only remixes that didn't make it on were of The Fragile, La Mer, and No, You Don't.

I like this album

Does anyone know where I could find articles about the The Fragile and interviews taken at the time of it's release?
I seem to remember reading an interview Trent did with Guitar World back around the time of its release, but I checked my old issues from '99, '00, and '01 and couldn't find it.
