Are you referring to the samarai look like the one in the video for The Perfect Drug? Best video ever.

It is VERY easy to distinguish new Nails from old Nails. He deals with pretty much the same subjects throughout all of his work, but his early work handles it in a very angry, depressing way. When on those drugs he felt nothing could stop him, so he wrote more intense music that he didn't sugar coat at all. His newer style is much more upbeat, happy, and far less angry.

I just listened to WT and YZ, and I hear plenty of anger and depression (if that's what you like), but it's also more vague, the lines are blurred, there's conflict everywhere, search for identity, there's a repeating theme of "I don't want to be here but I don't want to go back". Actually a lot of it is MORE painful than the other.

I'm not hearing happy upbeat, and I'm also not hearing wanna kill/wanna die all the time. I'm DEFINITELY not hearing any sugarcoating.

(BTW, I've been onboard since PHM too, so it isn't like I have no point of reference.)

And thank you!!! Yes, Perfect Drug Trent. Best look ever and probably .0000001% of the male population could pull it off.

Jeez I can't believe I couldn't extract that from my memory, I also love that video.

03/28/09 6:43 PM

Are we discussing general attractiveness or musical preferences? In both cases the changes have been incredibly dramatic...

I will say that his hands were a little bit prettier before...

03/28/09 6:48 PM

He's always been HOT. But I prefer the older, mature, jacked up, short hair Trent. Extremely sexy.

this thread is stupid

OMG

Awww High School Trent looked ravishingly cute. What a metamorphosis.

It's amazing how repetitive this topic is on a few of the NIN message boards that I lurk on. I remember the flame wars on MySpace about The Trentinator's appearance and all the other nit-picking issues circa 2005-2006. (And it goes on, and on and on. . .)

I'm grateful that he's been around this long and keeps getting better throughout the years.

And I don't expect perfection, since I don't know him personally. He can grow his hair down to his ass crack, I'd still listen to the music.

But if I were to hop on the superficial bandwagon about Reznor and his 'fashionable years', I'd have to say The Downward Spiral/Broken/Fragile era videos, e.g., Gave up and Into The Void (especially the close-ups of Reznor's lovely eyes.)

Wow. Can you say that was a cheesy dumb ass comment? Yeah, I knew you would think that.

^ That was a mindfuck if I've ever seen one.

I prefer TR while he was in "Exotic Birds" [www.youtube.com] Notice TR's brown hair, is that his natural hair color?

Ha I saw the slam bamboo one, Trent is like in the dark corner of the video the entire time XD. It seems he already developed his sense of style by that time which looked more modern then everyone else. Also that singer was fucking obviously lip syncing too, what a fraud.

I didnt see the option 30 performance which was funny especially that weird look at 1:44, wow. I wonder what it would look like if TR hadnt dyed his hair black or w/e he did to it.

03/29/09 4:46 PM

^ I read somewhere that during those days of "shitty cover band" gigs, he dyed his hair red.

03/29/09 5:38 PM

Musically, any.

If we're talking physical appearance, now, I suppose. '90s Trent looked like someone I could beat up. And I can't beat up anyone.

with hair.

The staredown made me LOL ... good catch.

Slam Bamboo ... what can you say except sheesh.(not Trent, the band) That lead singer thought he was all that and a slice o bread. He probably ended up being a balding, fat-a$$, used car salesman.

03/30/09 9:39 AM

I think he looks a lot better now. Much healthier.

04/14/09 6:20 PM

is it any of our blasting business? i can't believe i'm posting in this thread; it should be left to die, shouldn't it? he should look however he wants to; and i'd think he pays no attention to opinions in threads like this.

this next is something i'd definitely not say if i tho't he read these, simply because it's so thouroughly presumptuous and none of my business. i was a little worried when i saw some study on the news that said belly fat is linked to heart disease. i'd suppose it would take a lot more than the pound or two he's put on to be any kind of health risk. and working out a lot without proper nutrition is also a coronary risk. i saw in some interview that for a while he was working out a lot to fill all the hrs. in the day that he used to spend drinking. maybe he's happier focusing on rehersals and the new i-phone app and things like that.

of the three, being the incredible hulk, putting on a little weight, or being on drugs, obviously being on drugs is the worst for you, and he's not doing that now; shouldn't that be what counts, that he's happier and taking better care of himself?
i hope, whatever he's doing next, he goes after what he wants from his life. at that point, he'll be happy with his mirror, and if any of us don't like it we can take long walks off short piers and concentrate on keeping our chins above water, instead of drooling or complaining about how the man looks.

04/14/09 8:36 PM

HERE

Kind of in the middle between then and now. grinning smiley

04/15/09 2:35 PM

I only miss the Fragile period. I think the look and aesthetic of the band was at its best. But I think Trent today is a better producer, musician, and is now a leader in changing the music industry. So overall, now. It also helps that when they pull out tracks from The Fragile now, they sound better than they did back then.

04/15/09 3:45 PM

Definitly now... is healthier, virile... a real man... huuuummmm.....

04/15/09 4:14 PM

I love the old angry music but I think it is backed better by a healthy sober Trent.

04/15/09 4:47 PM

definitely have to say now. i'm intrigued to see what comes next. he's aged so well.

04/16/09 8:00 PM

Physically: now. most definitely. that buff look is irresistible.
Musically: I'd have to say anytime really. I just love his music all of the time.

04/16/09 9:41 PM

Now. ftw

04/16/09 10:30 PM

As a musician, musically, I'd say Downward Spiral era
As a musician, like the way he presents himself, I say now. I like how he's made his stance on the music industry clear and is acting on it
Appearance-wise I have to say I really liked Perfect Drug era Trent, definitely.

He totally looks like he should be in A Midsummer Night's Dream in that music video. lol. I agree though. It's rare that someone could ever pull that look off, but he does. It looks amazing on him too.

This thread is beyond creepy.

Most addicts do loose a hella lot of weight
