I am Canadian. My sister recently traveled to the UK. They did the tourist thing, and she had a funny story to tell us about when they went on the tour of the Tower of London, along with a small group of other tourists.

At the first stop on the tour, the English tourguide turned to them and asked,
"How many of you are American?"

No one answered.

He said, "It's okay...don't be afraid, speak up."

then, haltingly, three people in the group sort of raised their hands.

we did think that this was mildly funny...that the American tourists were afraid to own up...but ultimately it just gave us an insight that the average American feels they have to lay low whilst abroad...thanks to Bush.

And we're ready to get rid of Stephen Harper (Prime Minister) who is little more than Bush's bitch.

I'm sure many of you were losing sleep over this, but FYI, 66% of Canadians would vote for Barack Obama.

As a NIN fan...I have to say first and foremost, thank you for this tour...I have been listening since I was 12...and this was my first time at a NIN concert...why?? Well, circumstances in my life have not allowed me to partake before now. But I have to say. I am so awe struck about how much work and effort you put into your show, not to mention how amazing it is to see a musician that is so willing to keep the fans in the loop...I have never been so impressed with a musician/group in my entire life. Everyday I talk about how amazing it is to open up your website/fan site and see all the amazing info, new stuff, threads, comments, videos, pictures, and everything else in between. Thank you for not only for creating some of the most amazing and innovative music of our time, but also bringing it all to life for us in so many ways.

Also, thank you for sharing your views, I for one, agree. I know when I am being lied to, and manipulated... I am ready for change, and I am ready to see what we can really do when offered the choice. As a citizen that is fed up with this administration, I am so tired of being told that this country has "won"... what have we won I wonder??

I think Palin was a great choice as VP.

McCain knows what hes doing.

Obama is a great talker, but he talks out his ass.

You can disagree with me, that's what makes forums worth talking in.

But nothing is swaying my opinion.

I've just read the post --asking people to get involved. I've voted pretty much in every election in which I've been eligble since the age of 18. It is an honor and a privilege to be able to do so.

Between becoming familiar with this website and other things -- I watched both conventions on tv. I think we are in a sad state. I'm disturbed that real concrete discussions haven't taken place. Joe Lieberman's appeal was pathetic.

I watched Palin speak other than being a woman (at least that what she says she is (smile). We've become so easily distracted. Some things are fundamental. I don't see how either McCain or Palin could identify with me. Its not based on the color of skin or gender but fundamental principles. I believe there is a lot of mis-information out there and to blindly follow, I just can't do that.

One must educate him/herself and make the best decision that they can. Right or wrong, that what's make the opportunity to vote so great.

I was disturbed by the Republican campaign in that I thought they were speaking blatant untruths. We have some serious statistics that aren't being addressed. The housing crises was self constructed IMO. Totally avoidable. People are suffering for no reason. The war, my goodness, we have pledged our future to other countries. Our country has attempted to employ a tangible solution to an intangible issue. This is a mistake. I've known people who've come home and committed suicide after being involved with the war. And for what? Nothing is as people make it out to be. It is rather disheartening and it creates a challenge for one to continue to find optimism or find one courageous enough to display their independent thought for the greater good.

95% of my career has been in the energy business. I am grateful. I describe myself as a high-level grunt. With the amount of money that I've seen change hands in the past few years and how its done, I realize that I'm like the flea on a dogs back in the entire scheme of things. That's as long as I allow others to define my world.

The mis-idea that we can start drilling today and solve all problems...If you are lucky it take 10 years to reap the benefits from drilling. The futures/hedging process the legal ease. My goodness. Did you know it takes 1.5 gallons of oil to produce 1 gallon of ethanol? I've seen billions flip. Talked with those who've earned 10's of millions in the process and I try to figure out what does it all mean. Where does the true value come?

I've come to the conclusion that true value comes from within. It comes from hard work and that place in which we all are equal. That place in which we all have a since of value and hope. It comes from the place that says that anything is possible and that each and every life has the opportunity to make a difference. --Change. Just as each day starts a new, we as a people and as a country can choose a new direction. One built upon honesty and creativity.

Now that's my three cents. (smile). I didn't mean to ramble. But for those of you who stuck it out until the end... May peace be with you, cause its definitely with me. (smile) The shot of the beach with the flag is a nice one. Simple yet telling.

God Bless You Trent. *applause* When that image of George W showed up on the screen the other night at the Forum and this sea of middle fingers saluted it, I got the chills. Then it turns into McCain?! Brilliant. No words needed.

I keep trying to spread this thought with any and all conservatives within earshot... Issues of abortion and gay marriage won't matter when we're nuked for sending another brainless white guy with a fight message and guns a-blazin' into one of the most powerful positions in the world. I too am sick and tired for being hated abroad simply for my country of residence and it's foreign policies.

Militant McCain has had FOUR bouts with CANCER and he's the OLDEST nominee ever for President and his first major decision on a Presidential level is this thing he calls a Vice President?! Sweet mother of all that is good and great I am soooooooooo scared and the polls today are at a dead heat even showing these nutjobs beating Obama?! I am so scared. Downright TERRIFIED. Maybe Trent could go to his home 'swing state' Ohio and register a bunch of fans there and convince them of the urgency to get their butts to the polls Nov 4th. Every single vote is going to count like whoa. For the record I am an Independent and don't take up the Democrat cause 100% but I know one thing for a fact the Republican branding and message in this day and age terrifies me to no end. Obama said it best when he said simply, "Enough!" I feel much more confident in a well educated man who, while isn't afraid to unleash the military on Taliban in Afghanistan if required - has a more diplomatic and mindful and sane approach.

I would just like put it out there that I hope to God everyone is already registered to vote. You cannot just roll up to the polls Nov 4th and cast your vote, you need to register like NOW to get it processed in time. This website can help you... https://www.voteforchange.com/

*runs off to donate whatever cash I can to Obama*

"OK - I got it out of my system. Thanks for reading." winking smiley

I say.. fuck experience. It seems like experience hasn't done shit for this country in quite some time. I'd rather have someone dream something and fail miserably while attempting to bring those dreams to life than to sit here with our thumbs up our asses - doing what we've been doing for 8 years... I think the system in general is a joke, but if you give me a choice between the two likely candidates - you better believe I'm voting for the dude who can connect with me on issues I give a shit about. As for Iraq - nobody should have to suffer in life, please don't fool yourself into thinking we're just there to save the day. Think of the countries we don't touch that have it far worse that Iraq citizens... Try to remember why we went into Iraq in the first place. I'm not saying that there isn't some seriously fucked up shit going on in Iraq - people there are thankful to have us there, having heard a billion times from buddies who've served there... but this wasn't about their citizens well being, that's just the best way to spin it so we can live with ourselves. Our country hasn't done much without its own self interest in mind for quite some time, and if you don't agree with that - you need to read some fucking books.

And to the dude who said some shit about Hitler - You're saying he was a good speaker. While his beliefs we're totally fucked, look at what the "good speaker" was able to do with his movement..... regardless of how fucked it was. Just saying... I think you kinda owned your own argument (:

plus i listened to Palin's speech and she is NOT an orator. She SOUNDS like a hockey mom. My dog could have given a better speech.

And keeping in mind that mold would make a better president than Bush, I think Obama will manage, just fine, despite his lack of experience...let us remember that he doesn't have the experience with cocaine that Bush does, either.

I don't even mind McCain that much, either, for a Republican...and being able to like ANY prospectful Republican after eight years of Bush is saying something.

(And if i WAS a republican i wouldn't like McCain...and that says something, too).

But i'm sorry...after Bush...I don't care if Jesus is the Republican candidate...i'd still vote for Obama, if i was you.

Hell, i think Bush and McCain...and Jesus...should vote for Obama.

09/08/08 10:39 PM

That sort of preaching is what people need to hear. Although it seems like most people out there do not have enough marbles in their head to think for themselves, or they do not know sufficient information to make accurate logical decisions.
In my own humble opinion, the entire US Presidential Election process is poo anyways.
You should STILL VOTE and VOICE YOUR OPINION!

Someone asked me the other day what I thought of Sarah Palin's speech at the RNC. I said I liked it so much I went to Barack Obama's website and made a $30 campaign donation.

That's the truth of it, too... and the first of several planned donations to his campaign. I have seen this country go from bad to worse, flushed right down the shitter, over the course of my life so far, mostly at the hands of Republicans I generally defended at the time. Well guess what? Not anymore. No longer will I defend these asshats who trample my civil liberties, who tell me what a woman should be able to do with her own body, who hire jackoffs like Karl Rove to rig elections and spread a wealth of misinformation, and who destroy our environment. I have kids, and I need to leave them behind eventually with SOMETHING SUBSTANTIVE, not just a poor economy, shitty job prospects, no retirement package or fund, shit for healthcare and an environment they cannot breathe in without getting cancer!

Fuck Bush, Fuck McCain, and fuck his gimmicky choice for VP, Palin. I am far from being sexist. I'm not against the whole Woman-Leading-The-Country thing. I'm for it, just give me the RIGHT CANDIDATE if that's what you want. I'll tell you what I am: I'm ANTI-ASSHOLE. I WILL NOT TOLERATE VOTING FOR ASSHOLES.

Now, there will be some of you who think I am a democrat-loving, left-leaning, Obama-hyped voter, and if that's what you think, ok, fine, whatever. I've never voted democrat before, I'm decidedly small-government-minded, and I believe in the Constitutional Laws and rights we have been given by our founding fathers. This used to be what a conservative was. Not anymore. Today, the conservatives are more double-crossing, back-stabbing, under-handed, capitalist PIGS, and HOMEWRECKERS than anyone on the face of the Earth. They aren't pro-life, they're ANTI-WOMAN. They're hypocrites and liars, thieves and shameless self-promoters. There is NO HONOR AMONGST THEM WHATSOEVER.

This time around, there is only ONE choice that is reasonable to cast a vote for, and, yes, Virginia, that's BARACK OBAMA. I don't think he's perfect but he is our last, greatest hope to reverse the nihilistic course we're on until things will just be too far gone to recover from.

All that being said...

Trent, you can preach all you want to. Please, continue. You have a right to use your own webpage as you see fit. Who are we to tell you what to say and what not to say on a site you own and run? You're an artist... use your voice, and be as LOUD as you want to be with it. So what if a few miscreants and assholes don't agree with you from time to time? You're used to the criticism by now, right? Let it out. I support your right to say what's on your mind with ANY subject.

After all, We're In This Together Now, right? spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

Hmmm... maybe you could license that song out to Obama to use on his campaign... that would be pretty perfect.

09/08/08 9:43 PM

No apology necessary... FreedomBoat is on your side. I really don't care who takes office. As long as they have a brain, or have the ability to use a Speak and Spell, I think we're going to be better off. Personally, I'd like to see a hybrid nominee. You know - maybe a mixed race war veteran from hawaii named McBama or something. Just thinking outside the box here...

If americans claim to hate republicans so much, then why do they always win?
I mean come on! I heard "fuck bush" so many times before the reelection that i thought he´d never win again!

I know you probably don´t care, but your election affects the whole world! It really does. So please, give a fuck...

Where's another Abe Lincoln when you need him?

09/08/08 10:05 PM

Who really cares what Trent's Opinion is, if someone is going to vote because So and So said so or anything like that these people are lacking in brains and their own will power to make decisions for themselves. And need to get the frack out of the way so that the rest of us can be counted for what we truely believe in.

I'm not afraid to tell people where I stand, But I wont force my belief on others, because again I believe in free will and that people will truely make the right decision and vote what's going to be best for their future, and their childrens future etc... There is so much at stake in this election.

Why do we want four more years of the same damn thing? Mc-Communist and his VP In-Palin aren't going to give us what we need.

If ANYONE seen Obama's speech on TV they should have FELT something... I've never listened to politicians and his speech almost brought me to tears... and I SWORE to god I was watching Dr. Martin Luther King....

History does really repeat itself... but it's up to us to decide which direction.

But if you can't think for yourself and follow what Some Musician says.... then why the frack do you still live in this country?!?!?

Dont ask Trent what his stand point is because your never going to know! And You shouldn't care! What's important is what YOU THINK! Because Thinking is Free and Not Illegal...... yet.

/Rant.

((Sorry if I stepped on toes...but if you can't take someone voicing their opinion... then you cant have a discussion))

09/08/08 10:06 PM

And that, Trent, is why you are such an important artist.

Fuck everyone who say artists aren’t allowed to have opinions, if it weren’t for progressive folk, every aspect of our culture would be completely mass produced and useless. Besides, art is a reflection of the present culture. And thank god we at least still have you & co, proof that people with minds still reside in America, and other people with minds still demand quality, non conformist music, that oh- god- forbid, has truth and ideas at it’s core. And makes you want to think. Of course, the majority of the country doesn’t think anymore.

Palin is probably the most dangerous conservative nut job on the horizon. Her good “Christian values” could easily set us back thirty years. I mean say goodbye to Roe Vs. Wade, and as soon as that goes, as soon as the Kaiser—excuse me---government has control over women’s bodies again, mark my words, it’s just a matter of time before all of Year Zero comes to fruition.

The entire conservative—I mean Republican---- party is fear, discrimination, fear, rich white old men, and if it keeps going who knows how much more damage will come to our poor country. Who knows the damage we will unknowingly force onto the rest of the world.

Ha, yes, we won the war. How could ANYONE with a brain buy that shit? People are dying, innocent people on both sides, and yet we’ve taken a great step for world democracy.

I think the main problem is as Americans, we assume that we are the greatest fucking thing that ever climbed out of the ocean. Many people who buy that ideology have never left the country. The Republicans have made criticizing the government in times of war unpatriotic.

And, yet, is there anything more patriotic or more American than our RIGHT to criticize?

Wow, I guess I also need to get something out.

Keep doing what your doing Trent.

Can I ask why?

1.) A focal point of the election race is energy and she has great credentials as far as that subject goes. She supports drilling in Alaska, and is Chairman of the NGA’s Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. Many have suggested that her energy plan is a model for the rest of America.
2.) She appeals to the religious sect, which was a major question for McCain. She's very pro-life, having given birth to a child with Down's Syndrome, and has religious family values.
3.) She has a son deploying to Iraq who is in the Marines next month.
4.) In addition to being a woman, she's also very charismatic, and very young. It does a major part to offset the stupid "he's too old" argument. Now there's McCain's experience, and Palin's youth, energy, and the fact that she's accomplished a lot at the age of 44.
5.) She supports the 2nd Amendment, being a member of the NRA, and is for lower taxes.
6.) She has an 80% approval rating in Alaska, the highest for a governor in the country.
7.) Like Obama, she brings something new that would happen upon being elected.
8.) She's not connected at all to the Bush administration, which would have been a major sticking point if McCain chose Condoleeza Rice (who I would have liked to see get the nomination).
9.) She isn't bad looking at all... and I see a resemblance to Tina Fey. She was a runner-up in the Miss Alaska pageant.
