Patriotism is stupid at the levels Americans take it.
Stupid enough to believe America is entitled to whatever it wants
Stupid enough to believe no one has a right to stand in the way
Stupid enough to believe that everything America does is right and just

Iraq was a joke
John McCain and co. are a JOKE

Whoever believes fighting for the flag is fighting for Peace is an idiot. You are fighting for division between countries that can KICK YOUR ASS (and will, because America likes to antagonise).

If you want to be proud then America should be a teacher and show the rest of the world how to compromise and negotiate.
So far America has just been a bully - a stupid, arrogant and ignorant one at that.

I feel sorry for my many American friends that get tainted with the retard brush of so many Americans going "down with Iraq, yeehaw for God and Country and Oil covered in the blood of innocent Iraqis - YEEHAW".

I support the soldiers who think they are doing the right thing, but not the Government, not the people in charge of the Army, and not the America that thinks it can do what the hell it wants.

All the best to you guys that see sense, and all the best to all of us in general. The WORLD needs a strong American leader, and John McCain is not that.

P.L.U.R.

Keep on going, Trent! We need more people to raise awareness - constantly, until we get the right results.

Well said.

The Iraqi people have no freedom now, they are forced out of their country to be immigrants with no homes or jobs in neighboring countries that cannot feed them. We fucked that place up! On so may levels America needs to stay the fuck out of world affairs. Let them deal with. I am so irritated that anyone would think war is solution and to keep on this path.
I will say I do not think Obama will help us, I think he will only create more of a smoke cloud. McCain will destroy us.

So vote, go ahead and try to keep our head out of everyones ass.

I'm enjoying reading this discussion so far. I would like to hear from more of you who are leaning towards supporting the McCain/Palin in the election and finding out what specifically about them appeals to you as a voter.

We're fucked if Obama takes office. If Bush did one thing, it was that he protected his people from terrorist attacks. Not a single one on American soil since 9/11 - coincidence? McCain won't stand for innocent Americans being killed; Obama won't stand for ruining his public image.

People, we don't have two perfect humans to choose from. The candidates in this and every election prior have flaws. Vote for what's important.

Thanks for the post Trent! Don't worry about speaking your mind, that's a good thing about being an American is that you can.

I am a proud American that is also highly embarrassed of what has happened to our country. I've had proud moments in my life and things I'd like to forget. It doesn't mean I'm anti-American, I am anti-Bush, I am anti-war, I am anti-pushing religion for political gain, etc. I wish people on here wouldn't take things so negatively, but it seems like the state our country is in has made everyone a little bitter.

Watch the debates, learn about the candidates, and make a SMART, EDUCATED choice. Remember there is suppose to be a separation of church and state. Lastly, if you think our country hasn't been the best in the last eight years, try to choose someone who is the least like Bush.

I did not get into politics until 2000. That’s when i saw the whole thing was totally fucked. Now i am excited that maybe, just maybe we will get the right person in the top seat that everyone outside of the U.S. likes. if we are not liked but other countries then we might as well pack it in. why does the U.S. need to be a super power anyway. Let someone else try that. It looks like our try isn’t going to well.....

Well, Trent, we have won the war. We destroyed millions of Iraqi lives by destroying their country. If that isn't winning for America, then what is??!!!

Joking.

09/09/08 11:46 AM

Why are we just being throw a bunch of fucking senators to choose from. Nothing is going to change.Obama and McCain have their agendas and don't give a shit about us.

And their VP picks hasen't given me any assurance that things are going to be better. McCains pick of Palin was just a act of desperation of the Republicans to compete with Obama campaign of change, and Obamas pick of Biden and his 35+ years of being in Washington is the furtherest thing from change. Those conventions are just a bunch of bull-shit that people want to hear. Lies and bull-shit.

It just comes down picking who you think is the lesser of two evils.

ok and i understand you dont want to hear hiss opinion..but they way you say it only a person with a degree in poli sci is aloud to have an opinion. the right to vote and control the outcome of the election makes it each americanss duty to have an opinion and discuss with others. thats also how you change opinions. Thats politics.

but i agree that come jan people will be upset on both sides of the coin...and im jealous..im preggers and couldnt go to any shows this time around....any free tix to vegas..let me know..my only chance..lol

First off I want to Thank Trent for bringing this up. I think people who say artist should stay out of politics really do not understand the history of American dissent and the rights we are supposed to have as Americans.
Trent is following a long tradition of artist who have used their voice to try to bring about social change. People like Thoreau, Billie Holiday, Dylan, Roger Waters, Joe Strummer, Bruce Springsteen and many more.

He has every right to speak up. Also, as a reflective thinking person he has the responsibility to use his public forum to inform people about issues that are important.
What he is saying is important-get information and get involved. A person cannot get informed from chain emails and blogs. A person must look at what the candidates actually say in their position papers about the issues. Issues like health care, education, the economy, foreign policy and civil rights.

For those who are in the military. McCain actively fought against greater education benefits for Veterans. When the bill came up in the senate he did not even show up to vote for it. Obama was a supporter of these increased benefits and voted for it. So when you go into the voting booth you need to ask yourself who has your back?

For those of you who are saying you support Obama. That is not enough. Make sure you are registered to vote and actually vote in November. Get your friends and family members to vote.

Thanks for those words Trent. It's good to see people who still care .

Sometimes i have the impression to give away my energy when no one is listening.

With my organization, we've been organizing an anti-military picketing plus conference on Ste-Catherine street corner Bishop on September 18th 5 pm. I hope people from Montreal will show up. because last i checked, it concerns us all... well from what I remember...

actually only 1 of the 3 ever terriorist attacks on american soil by a non american occured on his watch. And he knew it could and would happen just because it doesnt happen doesnt mean his actions made it so.. example:

no giant asteriods destroyed the earth while clinton was pres so he defended us against them
Bush hasnt protected anyone...execpt himself and his rich war monger friends. more americans have died in a pointless war for oil than died in the attacks. terrorists are still going to come after us and if they wanted could do a lot of harm. We have this false sense of security. the airport by me wont let family members wait at the gate with passangers but anyone can drive up to the terminal and enter the building...you can go to the restroom underthe stairs..in the middle of the building, but cant go upstairs. a lot of harm can be done..we are not safe...just no one has really tried lately.

OH and PS i wouldnt really defend Bush right now...the republican party doesnt even want to be assoiciated with him...i know i watched the conventions..republicans were elling "CHANGE" more than the democrates

Trent you are absolutely right!!! My cousins are special ops and there lives are not worth the cost of "freedom" to people in countries that don't even want it. They are the first ones that get sent in to these terrible places and will probably be the last ones to leave! I thank God everyday that they are still alive, and hopefully someday they might get to come home. I haven't seen them in years. Forget McCain and his running mate they're just going to make everything worse than it already is. And as for Obama, this country can't afford him with all the changes that he wants to make. I'm all for the change that he wants for this country. I think that its great and it's what this country needs right now, but for him to get everything done that he wants to do he's going to need to get 2 terms in office and he is going to have to raise taxes and who knows what the hell else.

Bring back ross perot he was going to run the country the way it was meant to be run. Maybe we wouldn't be this fucked up right now if he had been elected!

I saw NIN in Toronto August 5th, from the seventh row! Holy shit that was amazingsmiling bouncing smiley My sister lives in Utah, and just saw the show there. Looooooooooved it too. Sorry that there weren't as many people as there should have been. They don't know what they missed. I couldn't tell her what it was like, she had to see it for herself. If I had a passport, and no fear of flying I would have gone to salt lake to see it again. But your coming to my hometown (Hamilton) in November, and I will be there. Trent, you (and the band) were incredible and you were sick, I felt so bad. But it was like my birthday party. (my Birthday was 5 days after the concert) I almost got lost trying to find the bus station to get home, but I didn't care. Trent you are the perfect drug. Can't wait for the next show!

to answer your question

6 people were killed and 1042 were injured in the first attack on the wtc on 2/26/1993

and if you consider pearl harbor an act of terrorism
2403 people died

For a grand total of
2409

I didnt include the oklahoma city attacks because those were domestic terrorists but if you want its 168

By the way it sounds like a lot of registered nin.com members want to fly out to Vegas to see the show. Any plans on increasing the number of reserved tickets? It would be nice to have a venue full of die hard fans. Just a thought/wish winking smiley.

Thanks for all your effort to put on this exciting show. I'll be glad to buy the pain relievers for any headaches you all go through as well to put this on.
