I think it's definitely misguided to take one's frustrations with the current administration or with the McCain-Palin ticket out on the military. Granted, nobody is perfect. I just don't think we need to resort to the kind of blanket "baby-killer" accusations that were thrown about so much during Vietnam. I know and have known people in the military (men and women, all branches) who were in it for the right reasons (namely, protecting this country and its citizens). I've also known those who did it for all the wrong reasons (boredom, seeking validation, because they liked playing with guns, etc.). Justifications run the gamut. It's too much to get into.
Here's my general feeling, not that anyone asked for my damn opinion...but here 'tis anyway.
I've got a uterus of my own, and I'm telling you that if I get pregnant (be it by my husband, some dude, or some rapist), I'm not going to abort. It's just not for me, I'm pretty sure. BUT that doesn't mean that I am going to impose that choice on someone else. Again...key word: choice. So why that is an issue right now w/ Palin, I don't really get. There are much bigger problems for her to address. This is one key reason why I am so dissatisfied w/ her as a VP pick. McCain should've known better, but then again, "pandering" as a practice generally nullified the concept of one "knowing better." I digress...
As for the war, I think the idea of a set timeline for withdrawal is a MUST. I'm sick of us being the freakin' world police, anyways. I didn't expect us to just do nothing after 9/11, but obviously the Bush Administration never really planned on addressing what truly happened anyways...they just wanted to get into Iraq and finish off Saddam.
With regards to the environment, I think that we need to get real about reducing our dependence on foreign oil. I don't necessarily mean drilling, either (though some of that might be neccesary in the short term). The technology exists out there to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels...it's just a bit freakin' clusterfuck trying to get the government and the oil companies and everyone else on the same page. I wouldn't hold my breath on it, personally.
As far as Obama goes, no I don't "love" the guy. I'm sick of seeing him dance on "Ellen," I don't wanna hear about his father anymore, and if one more person uses the words "hope" or "change" around me, I'm gonna vomit up yesterday's dinner (veggie beef soup, in case you were wondering). But the alternative scares me more than the prospect of said upper digestive explosion. So I'll take my chances. I just hope dude man won't make me regret this...
