I'm going to do as many other people in this thread and just pretend I'm writing a letter to express my fond respect for Trent Reznor, his band Nine Inch Nails and all the arts surrounding this act.

The With Teeth tour in 2005 that I went to witness in Montreal was absolutely powerful and great. It was my first live experience of any big act and of course of my foundest band and I can never forget that night. I loved to see Jeordie and Josh with Nine Inch Nails. I frankly didn't know Aaron and Alessandro. My loss I guess.

This time around, in Montreal again, it was unbelievable. I don't think I need to exaggerate any words to express how wonderful the result of all that work you and your whole team did was. I loved to see Josh, Alessandro, and specially Robin that really added to the And All That Could Have Been DVD, all back on this tour. The production and all the lights' "live stunts" blew me away and I was as impressed as I'll ever be. You explode in energy and put on a live show that only few bands can only pretend being able to do.

It is sad labels don't know anymore (or did they ever know...) the meaning of art is not associated with money. It's sad they cannot recognize it and it's even more sad they won't promote it. They treat artists like dogs, simply put. It's very discouraging being a new artist, maybe even a rising one, specially since we're facing difficult times.

I wish you, fondly, to continue to be able to give your fans an extremely dangerously good show through out the next leg and for the, hopefully, many tours to come.

Does this record label have an address/number? I'll be happy to talk to them myself! If anyone, they were the one to make the mistake! They just turned down the best band in the entire world! Pfft there's no other bands I care to see live!

Is there anything I/other fans can do, to help this situation? Hmm.. protest anyone?!

Dear nin,

By far, bar-none the absolute best tour of the year. Chile has become a must-play stop for a lot of shows over the past couple of years, but there is nothing compared with LITS. If this is the last grand-scale tour for NIN, I'm sure as hell happy I had the chance to see it.

I hope there will be more tours come 2010, and pray to god that Chile will be included in the tour dates. If not, I will sell blood and one of my kidneys to see the nearest show.

Trent, thanks so much for coming to Santiago, for the amazing performance. I've said this in times past, and it's been rehashed by so many hardcore fans that it almost sounds like a cliché, but nin's music has saved me from myself more than once.

peace. love. nin.

12/03/08 6:45 PM

Damn that really sucks. Fucking record labels. Here's hoping there's EPIC label asshat carnage in the Year Zero series. (What? Sometimes when shit hits the fan a suit takes a molotov cocktail to the face. Nobody said resistance was pretty.)

Thanks for putting together a kick ass show. Looking forward to what's next...

PS: To everyone thinking it's the end of world because NIN won't be touring for the next three years: Relax. Trent's written, recorded, released albums and toured more since With_Teeth than he ever did prior. There was a time when it was three grueling years between albums and tours...We've been totally spoiled! (Does that mean I can wing my binky across the room when there's no summer arena tour in '09?)

12/03/08 6:45 PM

Keep your spirits up, dude. Even though the live DVD is falling through, you've gotta keep playing us your fantastic music. If you need to take a break, do so. But please persevere, because we all love the amazing music you make. I saw you in Minneapolis and you rocked so hard... so please keep giving us music.

12/03/08 6:45 PM

You're right. Not even YOU can top this tour, Trent. It was an amazing moment in time. I caught the Dallas, San Antonio, and Atlantic City dates. All indescribably moving and relevant to me, and to the state of the human race. Thank you for making the best year of my life even better by adding this amazing soundtrack and unbelievable collection of performances to it. I'm truly sorry for those who will have missed it, and won't be able to experience it through the DVD.

Ideas seep through in the strangest ways...

I can't wait to see what you do next, even if it's no longer as NIN.

12/03/08 7:46 PM

well, no matter what, thank you for blowing my fucking brain everytime I've seen you live.

I'll hope for the best. And I'm sure everyone else will too.

I'm staying positive. I had to quit my job & have been unemployed since August. I had a choice of whether or not i should even have paid to see NIN given my shrinking wallet.

I did. Had one amazing night. Saw an amazing band & amazing show. Met Justin who was fucking ace & "so laid back".

So I'm happy as fuck that I made the right choice.

Trent thank you for everything. These are memories that I will cherish all the way to fucking grave.

I firmly believe NIN will be back kicking more ass in no time.

This all sucks..

It cant be good..

Im hoping for the dvd, Fuck the theatrical release, it would be cool. but oh well...

You think this is just interscope being assholes for the sake of being assholes..?

Having dicked around for entirely too long and missing every chance to see NIN live, I'm kicking myself in the ass right now because I've missed out on what are obviously some incredible experiences...and if watching the live DVDs can move me the way that they do...I can't even process hearing that my favorite artist for the past 20 years isn't doing major tours anymore.

And if this isn't the cherry on top of the shit sundae that demonstrates the inherent ignorance and vulgarity of record companies...I sincerely hope, working in the entertainment industry in LA myself, that the people who are supporting and guiding his Year Zero project have the best interests of his original vision in mind...David Lynch could share some horrifying stories about working to manifest something unique, powerful and inspiring in this biz...but it can be done, and I have high hopes, knowing that Trent accepts nothing less.

So now we get to watch the evolution of an artist whose work has clearly meant so much to everyone here...and what a blessing that is.

12/03/08 6:51 PM

Well, before the end of this tour, I hope that I somehow get a chance to see you one more time. Shame though, I would have dished out my hard earned money for that dvd.

12/03/08 6:51 PM

Buh.

I'll take a bare-bones DVD with hand written title cards and a simple two camera limited editing deal than to have nothing. But we all know that ain't gonna happen.

My god... how sad was Trent's post sad smiley Wow. I think he's just tired and drained from this tour and what went down with the record company just put him over the edge. And its winter time and we all get somewhat depressed during these long cold dark days - and he's in freezing cold Canada for god's sake! He'll perk up once the tour is on break and he can start thinking again instead of just doing. I have 100% faith in Trent that what he does next will be better than ever.

If I could write Trent a letter - this is what it would look like (for this moment anyway):

Dear Trent,
Your post today made me feel very sad because it seemed that you feel somewhat defeated by the fucking record company douchebags. Don't let this defeat you, use it as leverage to create something even more incredible. On behalf of all the NIN fans (and non-believers) that were able to actually see this show...well lets just say it was the best fucking show ever...ever. With or without a DVD, it will be a part of my memories forever. I have been to a lot of concerts in my life (some I would like to not mention) and I have never felt the pure connection that a musician has with his fans more then you. Its just amazing. Its a feeling that no one from the outside can understand. I was so graciously able to make five shows this tour (house of blues included) and completely understand all the blood, sweat and tears that was put into this tour. I appreciate it more than you will ever know.
Love and hugs, anna

edit: p.s. wow - I am so laughing at myself right now for being such a cornball!

Probably.

They didn't exactly leave on the best of terms. They probably feel sour & see that TR is making the big bucks without their help & it probably sticks in their craw.

But I know nothing of the music business so this is all just a hunch.

12/03/08 6:52 PM

wow trent now i'm really sad! I feel like, what no more nin?! I live for your concerts! I am truly depressed right now....this was the best tour of the year thank you so much!!! But your fans would come see you without all the fancy lights and technology we love you! Give us anything we'll take it! Wow I'm having serious nin wihtdrawal right now.....I don't even know what else to say...

12/03/08 6:52 PM

Hey! I'm more bummed out that you're po'ed than the issues themselves. As you can see your true fans would come to your shows no matter where they were. I really do hope you will continue to tour after this one (as opposed to doing a Vegas show - I mean, would Cher open for you?).

Besides, when all of this is over and you go back to LA or NOLA you'll record something and then what??? Knit!?!? I think not... And we will all be waiting for you.

This very well could be it.

They put his hopes up on purpose. They are fucking corporate assholes...

And Trent has publically hated them.

I can see why the would....

Its a prick move, no doubt.

12/03/08 6:54 PM

Definitely agree with the others who say your true fans will love ya no matter what. I will and support whatever NIN does in the future. It was great getting to see the best performance ever and will still be there if it gets scaled down to a smaller setting. As for the DVD, I understand that shit happens. Maybe the fans can make some sort of You Tube Lights in the sky compilation of the best videos done from each song?

12/03/08 6:56 PM

I was hoping for a DVD because the MN show got pushed due to him being sick. Then the new date of the show I got super sick. Thus I thought Maybe it was like a sign that I was not suppose to see this tour and then BAM no DVD. I wanted to see the ghost stuff live, at least Trent rocking the xylophone.

12/03/08 6:57 PM

Thank you for this amazing tour. I am thrilled I got to see both the first leg in Edmonton and the show Dec first in Saskatoon. I still have my fingers crossed that you might be able to get some shooting for a dvd. This tour is too important and good to not be captured.

12/03/08 7:58 PM

Trent, you and the band, have done an excellent job. You've toured endlessly and definitely done more than your part. It's truly been an enjoyable experience.

We love your stage presence. We love your work.

And we really hope it NEVER ends.

And if you decide to change your mind...

we'll still be right here.

I only see you at Rochester in 3/9/06....it was an unforgettable experenice.
Thanks for trying on the dvd Trent and being honest i really appericate that.

It seems as though you are somewhat giving up refering to the post but i suppose your not... anyways i hope you give us fans another helping of Ghosts and possibly at least one more album......after that you can go in a new direction, the "band" will simply be called Trent Reznor, and you do whatver the hell you want on it cause your Trent Fucking Reznor!

The low quality of the Youtube videos will not translate to the high quality of the shows.

I am sure Trent will make it up to us somehow. 2 records in one year (one free), an amazing tour, an amazing new website, give the guy and his crew of course, a fucking hand. Live 3D movie or not, we thank you Trent for being one hell of an artist!

Don't let those bastards beat you. It's fucking hard to maintain integrity and do what you need to do in the face of this opposition, but that's what makes you different to the rest of them.

Keep up the good work, because it's your work, and it needs to be out there.

I don't know what else to say.

A-FUCKING-MEN!

Man I want a blu ray or DVD but damn he's given us A LOT so far in just one year.

I'm saddened but thankful.

2 shows filmed from 2006 made BYIT what it is today. There are 6 big production LITS shows left, Trent. Get those damn cameras out and film them all (like you said ya did for AATCHBeen) and take all the time ya need to make it as good as you possibly can. Just don't let this show fade out in time.
