WOW!!! The one day I don't "lurk" on here until I'm getting ready to go to bed.

I had the wonderful opportunity to go to 3 shows this year and each time I was in awe. I've been a fan since 1989 and appreciate the hard work and dedication that Trent & Co. gives to us fans.

I totally agree with scritchyscratch's comment.

As I think back from the 3 concerts I went to, what amazed me what the energy the guys had on stage. It was insane. And we all fed off of it. And they had another performance either the next night or maybe had a one day break. I know my ass was wore out the next day after each show. I can't imagine how they keep up with the pace.

Trent & Co., ya'll just take the much needed break after this tour ends. And take however much time is needed. Ya'll have worked your asses off and have made us fans PROUD TO BE NIN FANS. We understand your disappointment over the DVD situation. It was out of your control though. With that, THANK YOU for this fucking AWESOME tour and for sharing your lives on the road via pics/blogs.

And whatever happens in the future of NIN, you'll have a lot of supporting fans eagerly waiting.

Well said. I'm damn proud as well. What other bands post live updates every day and post multitrack files for us to play with and remix to our hearts content?

No one...that is why he is the BEST!

I was looking forward to the next live DVD release, but hey life goes on. I'm really glad I went to 3 shows during this tour and really enjoyed every badass moment. Regardless of whether or not the DVD would've come to fruition, I think Trent would've taken a break after the NZ tour anyways. Next up: Year Zero 2. I'm really looking forward to seeing the completion of his story via the HBO mini-series (if it happens) and a monumental part 2 of a fantastic album. The dude has been on tour for what has been a looong time. He'll be back to make his mark, more than likely greater than any IMAX 3D documented concert would.

Until then, i'll be fine with a year hiatus. All I can say is thanks for all of the mind-blowing material you've given us at an unbelievable pace. We'll be ready when you are Trent.

Man, this IS depressing, I won't lie.
BUT, I gotta say that at least Trent knows that it's better to not release a DVD rather than release a rushed, crappy DVD in order to make money.

I think I have ten times more respect for Reznor for making the decision not to make the DVD under these shitty circumstances.

That is unexpectedly unfair. You should’ve told us earlier. We deserved it. Now it’s too late. It wasn't fair not to say anything.

Maybe the deal just recently fell through. That's how record labels roll. A bunch of decrepit old white guys who string your ass along until you break.
But didn't Trent already know that? Why did he go messing around with a record label for the DVD when he knows very well that record labels can't be trusted? If he was able to find alternate funding, couldn't he do that before recurring to a record label?
Everything is far more complex then on the surface. Trent has being in the industry for 20+ years I think he has a better idea then you or I have.

I don’t have a claim on knowing how things are. I’m simply devastated. You won’t deny me the right to be devastated will you? Knowing I’m not the only one changes nothing. End of story. Literally. I didn't think it would hurt so much.

I seconded this statement... I'd rather have a product that is not rushed out to the masses. That's my opinion of course.

Top five moments from my life (as recalled past midnight, December 4th, 2008).
1.) Birth, obviously.
2.) First time I had sex.
3.) Walking around the rim of the Grand Canyon at dusk with the girl I'm going to marry.
4.) The first time my dad said he was proud of me.
5.) Lights in the Sky, Cedar Rapids, IA, 2008. I was standing at the dead center of the concourse (balcony seating), about 40 feet above the dance floor and not more than 80 feet from the front of the stage. The sound was perfect, every note unmuddied, better than I've heard at any other venue--incredible. I was just high enough to see every inch of the stage, but low enough to feel the performance thundering toward me like a machine gun burrowing into my chest. The audience around me was seated outside my periphery. The writhing crowd on the dance floor just went away. The stage lights were everywhere. Everyone on stage was so close. I could see everything. The rest of the venue disappeared from view entirely. It looked and felt and sounded like there there was no one in the whole world but myself and the band who played such extraordinary music and showed such extraordinary things just to me. For a few songs, I had my very own command performance of my favorite artist in the whole world.

This is true: although I'm an atheist, I've always had a secret desire to find an afterlife where just exactly that same thing happens every night. This is along with seeing family again and getting to relive a different life of course, but my most selfish indulgence has always been to see my favorite artist do what he does best, just for me.

And on that night in November, I FUCKING DID!

I extend all my most sincere thanks to everyone involved in the tour, from the performers to the (what looked like-) dozens of computer techs coordinating the light show and the crew who somehow tore down and rebuilt that extraordinary setup almost every damned night. I may regret the lack of a DVD to show my friends, but I'll never feel anything but undying gratitude for the hard-working people at every level and in every capacity who made that night happen. As absolutely fucking ridiculous and hyperbolic as it sounds, I got to experience a piece of my own heaven.
I thank you from the very bottom of my heart.

12/04/08 12:00 AM

It's strange how heartbroken I am about this, but comforting to know we are all in the same boat, heh. NIN was my first concert ever, and the last time I saw you was 7(!) years ago! I missed seeing Trent and Co. when you guys came to Oakland a few months ago, because I was broke and it's a lengthy drive, but, fuck it, I'm completely prepared to make the even longer drive to see you guys play in Sacramento next week.

Thank you for never half-assing your art and always giving everything you've got to your fans. I'm looking forward to next week like you wouldn't believe.

Trent...please dont let it end.
We love you and support you.
Best show in my life. sad smiley

12/04/08 12:03 AM

At first I read "will likely be the last for the foreseeable future" and like many, thought that this is the end of NIN touring. However, after reading the news update again, I realized that "for the foreseeable future" doesn't have to mean forever and that certainly lifted the gloom a little bit for me. For now, I want to try to remain optimistic--after all, long periods of time used to go by between new NIN material/tours/etc. Certainly all the touring and new releases concentrated in the last few years have been phenomenal, but with that in mind, I can definitely see why Trent and co would want--not to mention need--a break.

I know it's already been said 500+ times, but Trent, I'd just like to thank you for everything you do and especially for all the work that went into the LiTS tour. It was not only the most incredible show I've ever seen, but also quite possibly one--if not the--most mind-blowing thing I've witnessed in my life! The DVD plans sounded amazing and I can see how discouraging it is to have to witness them fall through. I wish you wouldn't beat yourself up over it, but alas, we're all our own worst critics, aren't we? Like everyone's already said, no matter which directions you choose to take things from here, we the fans support you 100%!

12/04/08 12:06 AM

If it's about the money, Tr, I'll lend you five bucks. Just pay me back when yopu can. No need to thank me.

I must have read at least 200 replys to this post. I feel distant.

isn't it the music itself and not any "3D" effect that brings about our euphoria? And why our "we" fans speaking to Trent as if he had to prove himself to someone else?

Fuck Grammy's, when the world ends, no one will care who won one.
Fuck record companies, they're based on the business spectrum of everything.

Trent's music is alive in this moment. Nothing besides the music will prove how good it is.

you must understand how people can become so following to such artist as Taylor Swift, Usher, or lil'wayne, or even Kanye West. People followed Hitler, and BELIEVED in him. People believed in Jim Jones. Others become uncomfortable with truth and hide under others that proclaim a false livelihood. I won't blame them for that, I wish there was more comfort with our existence, but I'd rather die in search of truth than live underneath hollow thoughts.

Trent cannot give up music, He'll see how important he is in time and he'll write again, and I can bet I'll see him in my town, again. Trent is hope that there are still "humans" out there searching and wanting something more, something else.
Imagine Keplar, the man who found out the Earth was on an elliptical orbit of the sun, everyone in his time refuted him, and presently science worships him. Imagine Megallen when he found out Earth wasn't flat, once again refuted in his day, no one wanted to believe him, but now we understand. Or even that mythical story of Jesus, we fucking killed him. Now the most widely selling book is about him.

Trent is creating a Truth when we are surrounded by a fabricated life. And Trent, "If you are to quit, then why did you ever begin?"

12/04/08 12:10 AM

I don't know what to say, but though I don't know I think I have a few words. . .
I personally think this was an amazing show and had two lucky friends that for them it was their first concert. It is really sad that this fell through like it did, it was an amazing show and it is unfortunate that it cannot be captured and shared with the world. If there was anyway that this, even if it was rushed, could be obtained then go for it.

To Trent: I wish i could understand how frustrating and depressing this is for you. All this hard work, time and money put into this show and into the possibility of making this happen all for naught. I hope that the Year Zero mini series gets off the ground. Whatever you do you will always have fans like me and many many others who will support you and your career. You have given us amazing experiences over the past 20 years and have influenced so many musicians young and old (Steve Vai even considers you a composer on par with some highly respected classical composers); we should only be so grateful and willing to help out in anyway possible. If there is anything we as fans can do, let us know. . . How much money would it take to make the Dvd/blu-ray happen? Maybe if you just offered up the something like Demos, Missing Tracks, Un-released Materials, Missing Fragile tracks, offer up Downloads for Rock Band or Guitar Hero for a donation. Or just straight up asked for donations to get the DVD off the ground or to help make your projects happen. I for one would pay the price and donate as much as I could am i sure their are many fans that would do the same. I know this may not be read, this may be un-reasonable, perhaps even ignored, but maybe something will come of it; who knows.

NIN is something 20 years in the making, it will take more than 1 or 2 years to tear it down; this band, this person will go down as being on the forefront and always pushing the limits of music and what is possible in the studio, live on stage, and blurring the lines of television, music, movies, and art in general.

We will always be right here beside you, supporting you when you ask, even when you don't ask, always devoted to supporting the musical giant that is Trent Reznor, the one man genius behind Nine Inch Nails.

12/04/08 12:11 AM

If Trent never even breathed a word of this to us, some members on here would be pissed at him eventually about not having a BluRay or DVD of this tour and would raise hell. Don't even front! He was just being respectful and telling us upfront rather than just letting it go, not telling us about it, and then let us find out once someone leaked the info.

12/04/08 12:13 AM

Trent, if you feel like it's time for you to stop touring.. then you should.. Everyone will miss the shows, but you need to listen to your heart.. I love you more than ever..

Hearing this news makes me insanely happy that my friend and I decided yesterday (very suddenly)to get tickets for the Portland show this weekend. However, my happiness is bittersweet when I recall the words "forseeable future". All I really have to say is thank you for all that you have given us.

Oh and

Please Trent,

12/04/08 1:20 AM

This is my first post to the forums. I am not a message-board kind of person but after scanning (quickly) this thread and seeing the whole tone of it, I just have to say - FOR GAWD'S SAKE, STOP IT! Sheesh.

Artists go through this shit ALL THE TIME. I'm a painter. If I had quit painting every time I vowed to never paint again (often!) because I was uninspired/disappointed/upset/unappreciated/etc., I wouldn't have just finished two paintings last week. Not only are we over-sensitive, crabby, unstable, and impulsive...we also make sweeping declarations every time our "creative vision" gets derailed by anything. That could be something major, like an extremely ambitious, demanding project being delayed (in this case)...or it could be something like being overtired from pushing ourselves beyond our limits for an extended period of time and forgetting we're not in our twenties any more. *cough* (I speak from experience. Lots of it.)

Seriously. He's an artist. He's never going to stop doing what he does. It's who he is. Live performance is part of it. Nowhere in that message does he say he's retiring and never touring again. "Foreseeable future" can mean anything from months to years to forever, but forever would be pushing it for someone who is in his artistic prime.

IOW, I wouldn't be so hysterical at a few rash statements taken out of a much larger context (i.e., his entire life, career, world view, and the history of the universe in general).

Thank you, and good night.

I don't even really know what to say about all this, it saddens me. My first NIN show, i was on the floor of the Pepsi Center in Denver Colorado 6/18/2000. A Perfect Circle was the opening band and it was the last show of the Fragility v2.0 tour, which is now Halo 17 - And All That Could Have Been. My second and third shows were a couple of back to back shows at the Denver Fillmore on 5/3/05 and 5/4/05. It is a smaller, intimate venue, both shows sold out instanly, and the album With_Teeth was released the same day as the first show on 5/3/05. My fourth show was again at the Pepsi Center, 10/5/05 with Queens of the Stone Age. My fifth show was at Red Rocks in Morrison Colorado, 5/30/06. Bauhaus was the opening band. Anyone who has been to Red Rocks knows it's one of the best places to see any show. And my sixth show was again at Red Rocks, 9/2/08. I was in the fourth row, i can be seen in some of the pictures. I just wanted to thank Trent and everyone else who has come and gone through NIN for all the great shows that i have seen, and all the great music that i have heard, love you all.

man this is heartbreaking to read. the frustration behind this post is more than evident.
i think all i can do as a serious nin fan is try to express as much gratitude towards trent as i can, because it is at very least what he deserves.
thank you so much for seeing the importance portraying the show as you wanted. i am greatful and i know tons of nin fans out there feel the same.
to me, NIN still represents a glimer of what music can mean/do to a person. and it should be properly represented in all facets. this means putting on the most pain staking show possible to represent the integrity of the music behind it.
this is the feat trent has taken up, and it seems once again that his efforts are in vain. i feel defeated as a supporter, and incapable of expressing my thanks and adoration.

please, in your time of frustration, know that we as fans thank you for making the show a reality. dont ever feel that it wasnt worth it. it meant the world to me.

thank you.

12/04/08 12:33 AM

I hope this means Trent disappears to take care of normal things, tinkers in the studio here and there and produces some great music. I would imagine all this time touring does not allow him to sit back and enjoy other comforts like a marriage or maybe kids, family. I would imagine those joys would bring forth more creativity on a more personal note. Maybe not. I actually like this. I honestly think his newer music although it has its own merit and own unique draw is not of the same quality of the things he took a long time to do. Trent disappearing back into the studio and not touring for a long while makes me pretty happy.

12/04/08 12:36 AM

Say Trent you should make a stop by Seattle and play a show since youre so close by right now hehe. grinning smiley If not 2009 will be nice too.
