I just have no idea what this means.

We need some clarification. Does this mean no more albums? No more touring? Ever for both? Neither for both? We just need to know what's going on.

I can deal with you never touring again, even though it's a bit devastating. But if you don't make albums anymore, I legitimately have no idea what I'll do. Your music means everything to me.

I am sure he was absolutely crushed that he had to announce there will be no memento of concert footage via a high quality DVD. He too probably wanted this tour to go into his scrapbook of performances as it was a project to be very proud of. The concept of this DVD was a pretty tall order but I am gathering in Trent's eyes, the DVD had to be as grand of a scale as the tour production itself or it would do no justice. As the phrase goes, "Go Big or Go Home."

As far as the record company(ies), clenching their greedy teeth in Trent's fruit, I am not the least bit surprised as it would mean no deal unless their cut was to their satisfaction, and I doubt Trent wants to sell his newly freed soul all over again. Now I ponder this: why not just focus on the footage that IS YOURS? There is plenty of material from the tracks of With Teeth, Year Zero, Ghosts and The Slip. LP's where I am thinking you have full unadulterated legal control and domain.

Oh well, this is my two cents, which probably has a value of none since the majority of it is speculation.

It's just, Michael (Trent), your music means so much. Hearing your voice and your lyrics has changed me. It has helped me to explain whatever I am.

I have gone through a lot more then a lot of people I know; I won't hold anything back.

I've been sexually abused, had an uncle commit suicide, tried to myself twice, a slightly screwy mother, the most insensitive person for a father, a rather horrible childhood experience altogether. I had to carry my grandma's casket back in October at her funeral, with the person who touched me as a child. At times, the future doesn't look bright.

And then I put on some nin, and then I can come to grips with everything. I can maybe explain myself. I get a message; and I connect with someone who wrote a song.

I make music too; and of course, you have influenced me there too.

I don't mean to be all whiny and like I want pity; I don't I just want you to know, that your work and you mean a lot to me.

Thanks Michael.

Thanks for helping me to crawl again, when the heavens and everything fell down.

that is a beautiful explanation and i'm sorry to hear you've been through so many horrible things!!!! But i think stories like these just show how much someones words/music can mean to a person!!

12/04/08 5:57 PM

well..at this point in the tour, they would've had to film a lot of stuff by now, even if this would have been worked out right?
So the footage is down on film, but record co politics are coming into play, hows this working?? If so, work something out.
If not, if it hadn't even been filmed by now, find a co. to do it in the next week....for god's sake, do something to get this filmed.

I read a while ago that a one time show playing all 36 Ghosts tracks was possible. That is 100% Trent's right to distribute, they should do that show and record that. It would be amazing. I know that the Ghosts portion of the shows were absolutely amazing, and that was only 3-4 tracks per show. A high definition recording of Ghosts I-IV would be amazing.

TR...dude, I can imagine how shitty you feel. As a longtime fan all I can say is: your heart was in the right place. How many times have we as a community been treated to the very best by you? Everything you do is %110. In an industry where things shift so quickly and the focus is on the $ and NOT the fan, your already leaps and bounds beyond what anybody else has done/is doing. I guess what I'm trying to say is: Don't hang your head.If history has taught me anything, it's that TR will always come through, one way or the other! Thank you for all the years of great, emotion producing, thought provoking music! And FUCK the goddamned record companie(s). If they only knew that this would be one way to get the faith of some consumers back, but it looks like they're just to stupid to get it.

This tour has been amazing. Can filming still take place for standard DVD/BluRay? I was really looking forward to that.

Almost in tears...

Trent...please explain a little better! This can't be the end! Your to talented for that!
All of "this", you can't just turn away now...This/you is/are to big! (wipes tears from face). I know that this was a big disappointment but come on...this last concert/tour was the most amazing (and something to be proud of) "concert" "experience" I have ever had. (I've seen you 3 times live)And this was like a new beginning in a sense!

You/NIN have been a huge part for me the past 17+ yrs and I would be "VERY" upset if it just stopped.

I am probably "reading to much into this" but we as fans don't need a "DVD/Blue Ray" edition. Just hearing the most awesome music ever means so much. And we all know how much "HEART & SOUL" you put into "ALL OF THIS" that's in its self means so much...!
I don't want to sound selfish and I know it sounds a little that way (sorry).

(I understand this scale of tour might not be in the future. Perhaps smaller venues then.)I would love that!

anyway...

p.s.

I don't think this is a end to touring/record releases, just maybe a new approach to things. TR your creative and will find a way through...

I was fortunate enough to catch this tour and loved every single second of the two shows I attended, but I'm really scared/confused by what Trent mentioned in his message.

What exactly does this all mean? Are there no further plans for a dvd of this show at all? How will future concerts be?

12/04/08 6:21 PM

oh my god.... nine inch nails have been my favorite band for 3 or 4 years now and i still havent seen them live!!! AND i live in the UK so if they do come here in 2009 we wont get the spectacular show that you guys in the US got sad smiley
And i dont like the sound of "the foreseeable future" sad smiley

I would have gone to see a movie about the tour hundreds of time, what a shame we wont have that!

12/04/08 6:22 PM

This has been the saddest two days for me in a while!! I saw you at Lollapalooza this summer for the first time ever, and waiting since mid day in the 800 degree weather, was worth all the sweat and all the pushing and shoving i went through.. a day after almost being killed at the Rage Against The Machine show. You Know how it was I saw you Up there with the rest of the VIP's. You truly finished off that weekend with a twist cherry on top for me and the rest of the fans that were all there.. then i saw you again In Grand Rapids, and just made me really happy to see that everything was much more controlled, except for the screen during Pinion mhhmmmm..anyway this tour was the best i've ever seen and was really looking forward to a HD dvd of some sort. oh well.. thank you so much for trying.. this cant be the last of NIN Please!! we all want more! and please come back to Chicago!

Everyone needs to calm down. Seriously.

Take a step back and realize that Trent did not say one way or the other if this is the end of NIN... so stop acting like, as the way things stand now, it is the end of the world.

No, take another step back and a minute to think about everything Trent has done in the past 3-4 years. The man has been working his ass of non-stop.

I don't know about any one you, but I understand how it feels to work really hard for that long without that much of a break. Granted, I'm not doing things on a level anywhere near Trent's, but I know the feeling... you get burnt out.

And as we all know(or should know by now) Trent puts so much of himself into everything he puts out there for us and he is genuinely upset when he can't give us everything he wants to. So instead of bitching, moaning, getting pissed off and feeling like we're missing out, we should all be thankful that Trent has given us as much as he has.

Some of you may think of him as a god, but he is only human. He does have a life and, as much as some of us fans might not want it to be the case, his life doesn't have to revolved around making us happy all the time.

So Trent, thank you so much! Thank you for all the hard work you've done just trying to make us happy. Thank you for creating amazing, powerful, honest music and sharing it with us. Thank you for putting on shows so amazing that they leave us breathless and wanting more. I hope you will continue to give the fans everything they ask for, but I certainly will not be holding it against you if you do not. I'm just glad you shared your gift for music with us as long as you have. Thanks for that too.

Ok... ^^^ that was the nice version.

But, now that I'm irritated for unrelated reasons and people still don't seem to get it, here's an added note for the dumbasses, fucktards, and asshats that are still bitching.

Trent is a big boy, he wears big boy pants now and everything....
Seriously, the man is 43 years old and he can do whatever he wants without your approval. Hell, he doesn't need to give us explanations or tell us what he's doing, and he doesn't owe us anything.

Stop making demands.

Seriously, stop it.

Stop posting about how this news is shitty and is fucking up your day/week/life. ---That shit is a thinly cloaked attempt at trying to guilt trip Trent into changing his mind on whatever it is you think he's decided to do. That's really shitty and underhanded.
... it also indicates that you didn't read/ don't comprehend everything he said in his post.

Go back and re-read Trent's post. If you still don't get what he's saying, fine... but don't post anything beyond your feelings on the movie/DVD falling through and/or your appreciation for everything that Trent has done for all of us. Even you ungrateful twats.

I saw the Calgary show and I know those hicks didn't know how to show it every single person I have talked to said
IT WAS THE BEST SHOW I HAVE EVER SEEN. This tour was more than a concert it was an immersive, stunning and beautiful musical/visual experience that my words cannot describe.
WHY THE LAST SHOW ON THIS SCALE WTF? Why cant it just get better? To me NIN is the most real innovative, creative, stylistic, inspirational show I could ever imagine.
I am deeply saddend that that was the last show "on that scale"

But thank you so fucking much-

12/04/08 6:41 PM

PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY AND MAINLY TRENT HAVE BEEN TOURING FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS ALMOST STR8T! PLEASE THE MAN DOESNT NEED ANY MORE STRESS. LET THINGS BE AS THEY ARE GOING TO BE. I MEAN COME ON MOST OF US MADE IT THROUGH HIS OTHER BREAKS AND HIATUSES I THINK WE WILL BE OK NOW.

I had to re-read the blogpost.

First reaction: No concert DVD. sad smiley

Second reaction: No concert dvd in 3d with James Cameron. FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCKKKKKK.

Anyway, the fact that he's stopping touring for the forseeable future hopefully means one of two things: He's taking a well deserved break, or he'll start kicking ass on the Year Zero series. Either way, I'm happy.

EDIT: This also denies any possiblity of ever buying an old NIN record, because FUCK YOU INTERSCOPE.

It's too bad... but life goes on. These shows were inspiring and revolutionary. I will always remember being amazed by the production effects on this tour. NIN live has always been something special for me, both viscerally and visually.

Thank you so much for caring enough to provide to your fans the best experience that you can in a live setting. When it comes down to it... seeing you guys live is the most amazing part of being a fan of yours. Even though a proper capture of the visual experience crafted for this tour will be lost, the effort is not lost or unappreciated.

Zjaerinedine, I'm sorry to read about your rough life, but I'm glad to read that Nine Inch Nails has helped you get through it and continue your life. I hope you enjoyed the two NIN shows that you attended. For that alone, you are very lucky, I haven't even been to a NIN show and I'm only a year older than you. I like the fact that you referred to Trent by his real first name, that adds a nice touch to your post.

I truly hope that he reads Zjaerinedine's post. It might make him fell better about this situation.
