Trent's still speaking from the depths of his heart in that album, while the music matches so well. It's not trying too hard, it merely carries out the message of where he was at the time, just as well as his lyrics do. If you had a lot (more) of electronics in some of those songs (not that they're all completely electronicless--obviously not), people who only care to judge that album on the surface wouldn't be able to take jabs at how it sounds like a simple rock album, or some other BS that it is often referred to as.
