Ya no-one really liked CD's they where a compressed format. I never heard that trent didnt like Dual-Discs but I guess the question is what will it be then?

Downloadable content?

Cant argue with that.

I started getting into Bowie recently and then discovered that Trent accidentally picked up the melody for A Warm Place from Crystal Japan. Here's a link to the interview [www.youtube.com] which is pretty funny.

here's a link to Bowie's Crystal Japan, in case you have not heard it yet [www.youtube.com]

After hearing these two songs back to back, my love for them both has grown tremendously. What do you guys think? Prefer one version to the other, or like both?

I already linked the interview, it's pretty funny assuming that TDS came out and he didn't even notice until after.

I need to read more carefully lol.

Ever notice the similarities between The Heart's Filthy Lesson video and the Closer video?

Okay—well maybe not, but yea.

The last two weeks I've felt like I just broke up with somebody from a long serious relationship. Or fell in love with somebody to find that they disappeared.

No I'm not trying to creep anybody out—nor am I an uber TR stalker person. However I find myself frequently checking nin.com or the nin-daily blog for any new news. Any inkling that something new is happening.

No TR is not done making music.
No we haven't heard the last from TR + NIN.
Yes I know we're only a week out from their last performance. I know to give it time.

... however

I want more. I know it's selfish of me to demand and ask for more—however I honestly feel like a part of me is now dead. Yeah that's really heavy and maybe stupid for a few of you to read—but that's how I feel. NIN has created a culture. Maybe some of you would call it a following—but once in a while a certain event or song(s) or situation really has an emotional tie for me. This holds personally true for me with NIN. At least we have hours upon hours of listening/viewing pleasure—and hopefully newly released content to come.

Anyway—back to business.

/patiently waiting anything fresh from TR or hopefully one day NIN.

Peace.

M

It would be nice to find a new post in the homepage rather than info for the last shows. Impatient also for new information..

I had really thought we'd have a message from Trent by now. I'm hoping his absence means he's off getting married and honeymooning (without us!), but he's probably still recovering from NINfluenza/H1NIN1.

Call me old-fashioned, but I *like* CDs. I was very happy to learn that The Slip was being released on CD as well as being downloadable--I downloaded it, never unzipped it, and shortly thereafter trotted off to Best Buy to get a numbered copy... I only recently bought an mp3 player because I was going overseas and didn't want to lug a suitcase full of CDs with me.

I'd be right there with you if I still had a turntable...

I buy both, even if it's been vinyl recently. it's just more pleasing to have a 7" than a cd single.

I don't think I've seen vinyl singles since I was in junior high...

...which was before NIN debuted...

CD's will not be obsolete anytime soon. Not everyone owns or even wants an MP3 player.

cds are practically obsolete now, while vinyl sales have only been increasing over the years

people are waking up to the fact that cds are just usually overly compressed, overly loudly mastered digital formats, and that it's not much better than mp3

whereas vinyl is a great analog signal, big art, a collectible

nowadays, and way back when, people know that music should be an experience with a nice big collectible piece of art accompanying it

nin figured it out too

That's a bingo. thumbs up

While I agree that vinyl can be a fine artistic compliment to the music, the corpse fucking can only go on for so long. That warm fuzz isnt universally better. While it neatly blends all of something like Endtroducing... together, its can hinder other intentionally cold and crisp albums. It would really dampen something like The Information or Third.

I've embraced the mp3 if only for versatility.

09/19/09 6:45 PM

"warm fuzz"

i'm talking about wider dynamic range, forced on an album's vinyl master by the sheer physical aspect of the format

you can't have a loudness war master like st anger on vinyl, it will skip. you are forced to use the entire range instead of pushing for sheer loud

as for third, if you mean portishead's "third", that's a great vinyl and i don't really get where "cold" comes into it

09/19/09 6:48 PM

for instance, most of kraftwerk's albums are decided "cold" sounding (i guess, despite the dominant presence of analog synths) yet sound great on vinyl and have yet to be mastered well for cd, the cd versions out now are complete junk

09/19/09 7:21 PM

oh, I'm not arguing for the cd, just pointing out the drawbacks, if only few, of the vinyl.

I brought up Third because I was able to hear the entirety of the thing on vinyl, mp3, and cd. I simply feel like that is the sort of album that needs to sound as clean as possible. The familiar hiss apparent on vinyl just doesnt suit it. That, I suppose, is boiled down to opinion, and we're just at an impasse.

09/20/09 2:37 AM

Everything's cool, but i hate it when there are exclusive tracks on vinyls, which do sound shitty when captured in digital, equally shitty to low bitrate (up to 192 kbps) mp3 files

09/20/09 11:47 AM

On another note, I think that Skin Of A Drum (Saul Williams, produced by Trent) is one of my favourite songs now. The lyrics in particular are just so wonderful. Trent, Saul, if either of you read this, job well done. smiling smiley

09/21/09 11:46 AM

If only the Back catalog of the earlier albums are re-released in the way Trent Would Have Want them to be Hence Having The Copyrights to them and Not Those Cunts @ Interscope Records Bastards The earlier Material would be re-released in mutiple formats In Trents hands of course I beiive that should Include Vinyl Cd's well Those can still be printed as well cause I still buy Cd's but more of the vinyl would be great In fact Colored Vinyl Would be a nice touch and more picture discs as well.

Sigh :/ I wish Trent Would Have Taken The Copyrights To the Back Catalog of the earlier material when he left Interscope A little Over Two Years Ago.

without the copyright to his own works he can't do much with out it since the former label has all the control
which fucking sucks sad smiley

09/21/09 11:51 AM

Am I The only one who feels the same way about The Back Catalog Being owned by those Interscope Bastards
and Not In the Hands of Trent? Does Any One Here Feel The Same Way? Or do my words not matter cause I'm writing silly gibberish?
