I would have preferred an Official Edited DVD. This footage is like having Disc #2 of "Y34R3ROR3M1X3D", the multi-track recording of "Year Zero", without having ever heard "Year Zero".sad smiley

I seem to remember there was some miniscule, tiny little problem with the production of the official dvd. Sucks for everyone involved, but there you go. Tell it to interscope. Hey, now I get to make a NIN dvd! <----- selfish, self-gratifying point.

All that aside, it couldn't be done. Unfortunately. And for all you know, your remixes could have been awesome, so do what you will with it smiling smiley

It's sad that you have to sink to the level of insults because you don't agree with my opinion. You may have the capacity to make a remix or a DVD, but you know what, not everyone has that talent. And Interscope is no longer Trent's record company, so your sarcasm isn't appreciated either.

I wasn't insulting you, I was saying you might have done a great job smiling smiley

There was meant to be an official release, and if interscope still didn't own a lot of the rights (as far as we know), then there would have been. I was gutted too when I heard about that, but it's the way things are. All we can really do is take something good from the situation.

I have never seen a discussion on a NIN post move so slow. only 93 replies? WTF?

right now i am listening to the sacramento show audio ripped with powerdirector.
the sound is fucking great! i am going to burn that shit to cd.

when i open the .mov in vlc player and i get video but no audio, and i can open it in media player classic and get audio but no video. help?

01/16/09 7:16 PM

This is cool and all, but not much use to people who have jobs to work and don't have much time to edit video and stuff like that. I hope they put some of the finished works up here on the site.

It's a codec thing... check the editing thread in the new forum, that's got a better explanation winking smiley

Hang on and I'll grab the link.

bawitdaba posted:
A quick note on the footage, it was exported using a MAC using the application Final Cut Pro using a .mov (Quicktime Container) in the HDV2 codec. You will not find this codec on a PC (it doesn't exist) you also will not find it on a MAC without Final Cut Pro installed (so i hear anyway). (You will hear sound but not see any video, some applications like VideoLan Client www.videolan.org can VIEW the footage.)

The above makes things difficult for PC users, I suggest if you are editing this on a PC that you demux (demux means splitting out the audio/video from a multimedia file) the .mov file to a new container.

Editing thread.

Looks like you can either muck about with it yourself, or wait to see what people put up for pcs.

Fan made stuff so far is in here.
(This thread may well have something you can view).

Anyone know where the download links are again? I can't find them. My desktop just told me where to go, so I need to start downloading other bits onto the laptop so I can keep that up while I'm fixing the desktop.

If anyone knows where the original DL links are could you pm me? Thanks grinning smiley

tales of a pc user:

i just watched the first third of the sacramento show (camera 1) and goddamn, is it amazing!!

i had to play the video with vlc player, while playing the audio rip with another player. it's easy to sync them up. yeah, it's ghetto, but it works.

this footage is insanely good. i can't wait until people with the knowhow and equipment edit this down into a more manageable and playable format.

those of you who said, "gee...some gift," just wait.

I just have to say that it's just AWESOME that WE fans are all pulling together to make this LITS DVD happen. There is NOTHING that's going to stop us to make it happen. With all the HARD ASS work that TR has done for us in the past year(s), this has to be the cherry top of it all. I totally believe that the DVD is going turn out...well let's say some minds are going to be blown away. With what TOIOU has already, it's just awesome!!
I am looking forward to this DVD.the finger smiley

AND ALL THAT COULD HAVE BEEN on DVD was what got me in to NIN in the first place.... i watched that dvd by chance.... and had never seen anything like it..... hooked instantly.

by the time AWITH a TEETH ..A! came out..... i HOPED and waited for a DVD and thank god I got one for 12 bucks at future shop in ancaster ontario. MIND BLOWING! just a fucking great production all around........ i mean is it just me.. or is this just the most killer live band experience of all motherfucking time. (recently got it on BLU RAY and its actually way better on bluray)... ANYWAY!

i just wanted to point out how fucking cool the rehearsal dvd is that comes with
"THE SLIP"

if anyone from the NIN staff or whatever the fuck ..happens to read this.... i was thinking the same thing when metallica put out a rehearsal dvd of ST ANGER the album itself was for particular ears... sure!....(mine included) but that rehearsal was nothing short of amazing.... and the slip rehearsal with the way Rob Sheridan lit and shot it.. god dam i mean i crank that and dissipear in time for the 20 mins it plays for... they don't exist...im rambling ..fuck you.

THE SLIP DVD is fucking amazing........ and NOW we have The Lights In The Sky tour for free... for your pleasure.. to edit as you fucking see fit!

to sum up my bullshit i just wanted to say Thanks a lot to trent and staff for hooking this all up.. no other band anywhere spoils there fans as much as this and NIN has got to be the best thing going so what the fuck.... so cool... so cool.

theres a lot of ppl bitching back and fourth on these forums about different projects and thats cool... 2 years from now we will all look back at the wealth of footage and different cuts and different ideas and different edits...and at the end of the day i think that the result will actually be way better than any major theatrical release.... (james cameron 3D or not).............(ok maybe not james cameron 3D... ANYWAY)

in the mean time ill download and cut my own personal version of the NIN experience for my own personal collection and for all my friends and anyone else who wants it.

..i was fortunate enough to cath 3! shows this tour and i wont forget any of them thanks to .........."the gift"....

so thanks a thousand times! after this free raw footage i couldnt think of possibly asking for anything more.

thanks a 1000,000.000[u][/u]

I know exactly what you're saying!!!! Couldn't have put it better myself!!! They/he really are amazing!!! Off-hand I can't think of another artist/band who care so much for their/his audience to allow us to do the things we do. It really is a "give" and "take" situation here, like how a relationship should be, equally shared, equally enjoyed. I LOVE IT!!!!

01/19/09 4:31 AM

I've been working on downloading the viddys. Of course after 2 or 3% was downloaded on BT my computer got completely full. (No I'm not starting a flame war. I'm just saying, I've saved a lot of .html docs for me to read/print on web-design and pretty much everything else constituting my ten-year plan- so my computer got overwhelmed and now I have to email everything from my laptop to my tower. And burn everything inbetween.)

#$!% * 1,000! I just don't want to get into all of that. It's like talking about how waiting tables went for the day.

Anyway, I'm still working on seeding/dling them afterwards. I could tell this project should go for awhile, especially since I know there's just gotta be some users out there with an iMac/iBook or some other non-pro computer that it would take a lot of work to seed from.

Until then it's good on both counts since this is making me study all of my independent-study materials harder and faster. Tres cool!

Anyway, thankyou Trent and Co. for allowing us this great opportunity and releasing the footage. The Portland show was really fun and awesome by the way.

By the way, I do like the idea to release whopper files for those into video-editing. I think it shows finesses for knowing one's audience and realizing the people likely to be able to dl three 200-400 Meg files already would be those who would have access to some nifty AV equipment such as Final Cut Pro or T-Drives.

You all worked that in pretty well. smiling smiley

Ok Ok, I have to just vent this once and I will say no more.
Rule #1 of marketing: Remember consumers are easily confused (idiots) (anyone wh'os worked in retail knows this)
Rule #2 if you have to explain what the title is, then you've failed at proper branding.
Enough said.

Hippygeek (from you know where, if you know):
That's not to say that the cover doesn't have LITS on it, just that it won't be the actual title. I visualize the final title as something like:

Code:
TITLE
Lights In The Sky 2008
this one is on us

End quote.
