I first heard Nine Inch Nails when The Hand That Feeds was in a music video chart and it was about the same time year zero came out so I saw Survivalism on TV around the same week. I listened to some Year Zero songs on youtube and decided to buy it.

I love the fact that NIN can still appeal to younger fans but still keep the interest of old timers too.
I first heard NIN back in the early nineties when Wish and Head Like A Hole were MTV staples. Only really got into them properly though during the Downward Spiral era.

08/17/08 6:25 AM

I saw Only on TV in 2005 on MTV2. I believe that was the first time I heard NIN.

08/17/08 7:21 AM

I listened to some song samples from amazon.com in early 2003, I think. I was a Tool fan at the time and heard that Trent and Maynard were friends, etc, and went from there.

08/17/08 7:10 AM

I first heard Nine Inch Nails on a bootleg of david Bowie live at st Louis 1995, a friend had me to add the 1st left on the cd and this is NIN ( it was in 2000)

Remember quite faintly of when I was a preteen starting to look at the world differently. I saw The Perfect Drug on MTV one night and was entranced.
Although my true fandominum didn't happen until I was in high school, I always felt like nin had a place in my mind.

I accidentally became an Eminem fan, which made me totally forget the awesomeness of nin.
However, my obsession died down with him when I went back to my rock 'n roll influences.
When I was 16, I found The Fragile album in my local library. I brought it home and burned it. Then from here on out, I became a true nin fan. About a year after my re-discovery, nin released With Teeth.

There is just something about NIN that helps me throughout the day that other music hasn't yet done for me, especially Ghosts! I love TR's incorporation of the piano in his songs.

08/17/08 9:42 AM

In 2005 I saw the Only video on Fuse.

But, I do have vague memories of seeing the Closer video when I was about 9 on a Vh1 special called "Banned Videos" or something like that. So i guess that was in like 1999.

08/17/08 10:52 AM

I guess it was in 2004. One girl made a cd with a lot of different songs for me. One of those songs was "Hurt" smiling smiley

08/17/08 11:55 AM

January '96 a friend of mine made a tape copy of PHM for me in what would have been a lame birthday present lol. It took we a little while to get into it but one day it clicked and I ran off and bought everything that was available at that point and then went through the years of waiting winking smiley

08/17/08 11:10 AM

I saw the Lyrics of "hurt" in a magazine and then found this song in the net, listened.
It was about earlier 2007.

08/17/08 1:13 PM

As a kid i always heard Down In It on the radio, but didn't go much further then that. But when The Fragile came out, I had to lsiten to my dads copy of The Downward Spiral(recognizing Closer, it helped getting into the album). THen I went out and got The Fragile, and got into NIN alot. This was around 2000 I guess

When my brother was skate boarding to HLAH....so...in 89. Yup...I'm old. smiling smiley

08/17/08 1:50 PM

The Perfect Drug video. I really got interested in late-1998 when I purchased Broken and Further Down the Spiral. The Fragile came out the next year and that's when I became an addict.

08/17/08 12:54 PM

I saw "deep" in 2001 on mtv and i hated it, back then i was 13....
4 years later a good friend of mine showed me AATCHB and Fragile, i was blown away and since then NIN is my favourite band

08/17/08 1:20 PM

I heard a lot of things about the movie 300, but i din't know whether should I watch it, or not.

So I started to read critich about it, and one thing was constant: When they talked about the music, they've all agreed, that, the NIN song( I didn't know the name back then) is a perfect one, because it's NIN.

So i read it again, and started to think..."because it's NIN", what the heck would NIN be, if they're praise it so much? Then I checked on Last.fm what is the most popular songs from them. I downloaded some song, and Terrible Lie+The Hand That Feeds made me say: "Holy Shit!" >:]

[sorry for my english O.o]

About four years ago, My uncle gave my mom the left side of the Fragile. She didn't like it, so she gave it to me. I liked it a lot, but I didn't listen to any more music by NIN until my uncle found out I like it, and gave me the right side. I loved them, so I bought The Downward Spiral, and then Pretty Hate Machine, and then the rest.

I also remember seeing the Perfect Drug music video sometime around then, and loving it. But I don't think I even knew it was NIN until way later.

I rediscovered NIN the same way

I remember Closer scaring the shit out of me.

I first heard of nine inch nails sometime in the mid 90s. I never listened to them of gave them a second thought until like 2004. So it was in between The Fragile and With Teeth.

08/17/08 4:30 PM

Ha, I too started out by seeing Only on MTV in (the summer of?) 2005. Thought it was OK.
***LATE LOSER LATE LOSER, COUGH***
Then I blind-bought Year zero after reading an interview about it... Actually it's 1 year today since I first put it in my cd player. *cry* smiling smiley

But I've known about nin, and been slightly curious, since maybe 1997... :p *moarcry*

I think I saw the Celebrity Deathmatch episode with Trent reznor's fight. I got into te music a few years ago and fell in love with it.

08/17/08 7:14 PM

I saw Pinion clip on TV in 1992.

08/17/08 8:30 PM

I remember the Closer music video when I was younger and hearing it and HLAH on the radio in like '95. NIN was always a band that I casually liked. Meaning I would turn up the radio when they were on but never went out and bought a CD. Then in '07 My boyfriend found his old TDS CD and he started getting back into them and the timing coincided with the YZ ARG. That totally just pulled me in & ever since I've been horribly obsessed. I think my boyfriend is sick of NIN now cause that's all I talk about.

08/18/08 2:41 AM

I was really into Manson for some time and, well, it's pretty obvious... Trent Reznor's name was mentioned quite often in interviews, MM's autobiography and such, so I became interested in NIN. I've got AATCHB DVD as my birthday present and then something clicked in me. So, "Terrible Lie" was my first step.

08/18/08 3:28 AM

i am pretty sure i heard some pretty hate machine songs before closer, but closer is what made me buy TDS as my first NIN album. i still remember randomly looking up NIN on teh interwebs back in 1998 to see if there was a website for them... and WHAM there was the earliest news for a new album. my obsession started then.

i still wear my ninetynine/nothing shirt... for those that don't know, The Fragile was originally going to be called ninetynine... and was supposed to be released on 9/9/99 or something like that. damn.. my shirt is close to 10 years old... yeesh

late 1997, TPD video on A music channel, most likeley mtv,

08/18/08 4:34 AM

I'm pretty sure I saw the Closer video earlier in my life, though it was not until I heard Capital G(!) that I fell for them.
I heard it quite randomly in my dad's car while listening to a classic rock channel. They had this thing called "New, Fresh rock" and apparently that is what nin is

08/18/08 5:04 AM

First time I heard NIN was in 94 when I was moving my cousin out or in (I forget which) of his appartment. My friend brought over the downward spiral, after hearing Mr. Selfdestruct i was....horrified(and amazed). You gotta understand that a the time I was a pot smoking hippy sad smiley , and all I listened to was The Dead and The Doors. Awhile later I picked up Pretty Hate Machine and fell in love with NIN. I have been a fan ever since. My first show was the outside tour with David Bowie, and wow I was blown away.

yay..i saw them on MTV (Kansas City) in '89, too....took for ever to 'find' their cassette, yup, i'm old, too. oddly enough, it was easier to get a hold of their new work when i lived in the Co. mountains.

I was a diehard Linkin Park fan back in the day when they covered "Wish" in 2004 at Rock am Ring. I stumbled over that recording in may 2005, i guess. I thought that song is pretty nice and went out to buy "With_Teeth" the other day. Me unknowing that "With_Teeth" was brandnew then. Anyhow i bought it just like that, not knowing anything about NIN and having no inet back then to dl some songs and "pre-listen" them or stream them from somewhere.
Well then after buying it i got back into my car and played it there.
So practically the first "pure" NIN song i ever listened to was "All the Love in the World". And the 2nd half of it blew my mind and with it also LP away, lol.
After that my halo hunt started, but that's another story grinning smiley
